Evans River Agriculture Class The Year 10 Agriculture students had the opportunity to visit a dairy farm in Codrington on Wednesday 13th May. The field trip formed part of an assessment task. The students were able to talk to Peter Graham, the farmer, about the practice of dairy farming, the skills involved, the technological advances in the industry and the production of pastures on the property. It was very generous of Mr Moreman to assist with the driving of students and we thank the Tosomeen family for the use of their Tarago van. The Agriculture plot has been very busy in the past fortnight. Angus our steer went to the saleyards in Casino on Wednesday 6th May. He fetched a very good price. Congratulations to the Year Ten students for raising such an impressive steer. On Wednesday 13th May our Year Nine students received their calves. They are with us for three weeks as part of the Cows Create Careers program and the students are responsible for the feeding and care of these calves. After a vote, the calves were named Bambi (the brown Ayreshire) and Lambo (the black Fresian/ Holstein cross). Mrs McGeary - Agriculture Teacher

Walk Safely to School Day Walk Safely to School Day (WSTSD) is an annual, national event when all Primary School children will be encouraged to walk and commute safely to school. It is a Community Event seeking to promote Road Safety, Health, Public Transport and the Environment. It will be held throughout Australia on Friday 22 May 2015 The objectives of WSTSD are: To encourage parents and carers to walk to school with primary school age children and reinforce safe pedestrian behaviour. To promote the health benefits of walking and help create regular walking habits at an early age. To ensure that children up to 10 years old hold an adult's hand when crossing the road. To help children develop the vital road-crossing skills they will need as they become mature pedestrians. To reduce the car dependency habits that are being created at an early age and which will be difficult to change as children become adults. To promote the use of Public Transport. To reduce the level of air pollution created by motor vehicles. To reduce the level of traffic congestion. Kristin Piccoli- Teacher K-6

Over the past weeks there has been some unacceptable behaviour between a number of our boys in primary. The staff and Principal are concerned about this behaviour and have been looking at ways to further enhance relationships in the playground and classrooms. On Tuesday morning Mr Walker, Mr Cook, Mr Fields and Ben Weekes met with all the boys from years 2 - 6 and I was there as an observer. They talked to the boys about how to be a good friend, appropriate physical contact, what to do if someone is doing or about to do something wrong, appropriate language and how to keep our school happy and safe for everyone. Each teacher and Ben addressed the boys giving different ideas on how to handle problems. The boys were open about the way they felt about the issues and it was good to see them interacting with the men and wanting to put their concerns and ideas forward. The meeting with the boys went for some time and the boys left feeling not so isolated with their issues and armed with ways to handle these if they should arise. Primary staff are working with students, boys and girls, to keep our playground a happy, safe, fun place to be. Some plans are to: Remind students of school rules, especially as they relate to getting on with each other and solving problems. Reward consistently good behaviour with participation in a movie session. A regular soccer lunchtime game with mixed teams of 5 or 7 players consisting of students of various ages and perhaps a teacher in the team, with high school students as referees. (This is to promote all ages working together and encouraging good sportsmanship). If you would like to discuss any issues with Mr Walker or other staff please feel free to ring the school and make an appointment to talk with them.

Are you wondering what is going in this space? It will be a demountable building fitted out as the temporary home for our hospitality classes; while their new million dollar building is being erected in hospitality’s present position.

Please remember not to park in the disabled parking bays.
