Positive Behaviour for Learning Positive Behaviour for Learning is based around the philosophy of PREVENTing problems occurring, TEACHing the

appropriate behaviours NOT presuming students know what to do, ACKNOWLEDGing when students are doing it right

and CORRECTing them if they are doing something wrong.

Staff are showing their commitment to the PBL ethos by continuing to reward students in the playground, classroom,

library and office for doing the right thing and behaving appropriately during lessons. Students receive Bonus Awards or a

blue Thank You for following the 3 core school rules;

Being Safe

Being Responsible

Being Respectful

This week we will be targeting; BEING RESPECTFUL WAIT MY TURN IN THE CLASSROOM, this includes waiting for equipment to be handed out, putting your hand up and waiting for your turn to speak, waiting to come to the jelly bean table, sitting on cushions, entering and exiting the classroom and during assemblies. IN THE PLAYGROUND; this includes waiting for your turn at the canteen, on the fixed equipment, waiting in the library, using the bubblers and waiting for your turn to shoot or play in a game. If we all wait for our turn, it is unlikely that someone will get hurt, injured or upset. Waiting for your turn is good manners and takes lots of practice! By the age of 7 most children are aware of the need to wait until it is their turn. Problems may arise when someone is not behaving fairly, cannot wait or does not think about how others may feel if they do not share equipment, space or time. For an average student to unlearn an old behaviour (not waiting) and replace with a new behaviour or strategy (waiting for my turn), the new behaviour (waiting for my turn) must be repeated on average 28 times.” (Wong, USF). Staff will be focusing upon rewarding students who are waiting for their turn for the following 2 weeks of the year.
