Background of the Conference and the workshop “The ability to design and control the structure of an object at all length scales from the atom

up to macro scale” is a recognized definition of nanotechnology, which the chemical and

physical characteristics of materials at nanoscale fade the boundaries between physics,

chemistry and biology. Nanotechnology with a considerable influence on now and future

medical science and technology seems to have a vital role in biomedical priority research

areas and applications, such as drug delivery, target-specific drug therapy, gene therapy,

molecular imaging, biomarkers, biosensors, early diagnosis of pathologies, and so on. Hence,

in the path of the INN mission for providing learning tours, improving the transfer of

knowledge and experience among the academic researchers, scientists, industrialists and

policy makers, and training of qualified human resources of the OIC member states, INN is

offering a two-day international conference/workshop.

The Organizers

COMSTECH

The Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the OIC

(Organization of Islamic Cooperation) established by the Third Islamic Summit of OIC held

at Makkah, Saudi Arabia in January 1981. The President of Pakistan is Chairman of

COMSTECH. The core mandate of COMSTECH is to strengthen cooperation among the OIC

member states in science and technology (S&T), and enhance their capabilities through

training in emerging areas, undertake follow-up-actions and implementation of the

resolutions of the OIC, and to draw up programs and submit proposals designed to increase

the capability of the Muslim countries in science and technology (S&T). The ultimate aim is

to build and nourish a scientific culture in addition to using S&T as a major contributor to

socioeconomic development and rapid industrialization.

INN (Inter-Islamic Network on Nanotechnology)

The mission and vision of INN are to foster closer cooperation among Muslim countries in

the development and management of nanotechnology resources. In pursuit of this mission,

it seeks to generate ideas and policy directions through intensive dialogue, studies and

research on a continuing basis. The headquarters of INN is in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Network will initially link all individual country networks from various branches of

nanotechnology.

Materials and Energy Research Center

The year 1971 was the beginning of a new scientific movement in science of materials and

renewable energies when the Institute of Materials and Energy (MERC) started its research

activities in the fields of Materials Engineering, Renewable Energies, Semiconductor

Technologies and Environmental Issues. This positive approach has been continued and

strengthened until now, so that in recent years, Islamic Republic of Iran is one of the leading

and most important countries in new technologies in the region, as well as a distinguished

developing country in the world.

Establishing an effective link between research and production, extending the interaction

between researchers inside and outside the country for transferring the needed technology

and supporting the initiatives are some of the objectives of MERC. Therefore, MERC has

developed extensive collaborations with National and International Universities and

Industrial Research Institutes in recent years.

The Conference/Workshop The 2017 “Nanotechnology and Nanomedicine” conference/workshop was one of

conference/workshop series related to nanotechnology held by the Inter-Islamic on

nanotechnology network (INN) on 2-3 May 2017 at Materials and Energy research Center

(MERC) in Meshkindasht, Alborz, Islamic Republic (IR) of Iran. Original papers on

nanometer-scale materials, devices, and technologies that utilized in biomedical science and

technology were welcomed.

Outcomes and Conclusions

The INN International Conference/Workshop on “Nanotechnology and Nanomedicine” was

held to be a place for sharing knowledge and improve the Islamic world scientific level in

NanoTechnology and NanoMedicine. What connected all of us in this COMSTECH-supported

program or any related one, beside of being human, is the religion of Prophet Muhammad,

Islam. The invited speakers, Iranian professors and participants were able to communicate

and recognize the Islamic countries’ capabilities in Nano-related subjects. We did our best

to prepare an atmosphere for getting to the pre-defined goals, strengthening the inter-

Islamic scientific relationships, exchanging the latest knowledge and transforming Ideas

into wealth and production. We hope to keep this precious approach and improve the

program in the future meetings.
