Callum & Jess

Page 2: Initial%20 ideas%20and%20feedback[1]

Idea 1• Aimed at children. (3-9 yrs)• Themed, e.g. pirates, princesses, spacemen. • Based around lunch time, things to have in your

lunch box etc.• Card features 2 photographs of the food, one

taken of the finished product (front of the card) and one taken of one stage of the process (child and adult making the meal)

The instructions will be short and basic, easy to understand but it will be stressed to have the help of an adult (as shown by adult and child in the photograph)

Princess theme: Fairy cakes, crown shaped biscuits etc.Monster theme: Fruit salad cut into gruesome shapes etc.

Feedback 1What do you like about the idea? The use of themes to tie in with the children is a great idea. The idea of it being accessible to lunch boxes is great as parents will encourage healthy eating at school. The use of images of the parent and child cooking the meal together is a good idea as it promotes the idea of family.

What areas of the idea could be developed?Possibly include diagrams with instructions to make the instructions more accessible to the child?

What do you find interesting about the idea?My favourite thing about this recipe card idea is the use of themes, this will make the child eager to make things as they can relate to the characters ( Princess, spaceman, pirate etc )

Idea 2• Again based on lunch box meals, also

for children 3-9 yrs.• Buns/cakes/biscuits.• Features a character that explains the

instructions (bear/tiger etc.) OR an animal that is a vegetarian—relatable to the audience.

• Jungle/forest theme – includes short pointers on how certain methods help the environment OR fun facts about jungle animals.

• Encourages to get an adult’s help. INTRODUCTIONCharacter

Feedback 2What do you like about the idea?I like the fact it is based around lunchbox meals which will encourage an adult to create healthy meals for their children. The use of a character that the child will relate to is a great idea, it is proven to work in other areas such as cereals ( tony the tiger etc ) The fun facts section will make the recipe card enjoyable for the child as they will learn whilst they are helping to make the food.

What areas of the idea could be developed?Could develop detail on colour of card, whether it will have laminated finish etc. more about how to make and possible inclusion of nutritional values ?

What do you find interesting about the idea?My favourite thing about this idea is the inclusion of characters and fun facts. This will make the child enjoy themselves whilst making the food. It also makes it educational which a lot of parents will value!

Idea 3• 7-12 yrs (more factual, education

based recipe card)• Features a more detail description of

each step and also includes short facts about the benefits of the vegetarian lifestyle.

• Themed (preferably a farm etc.)• Provides alternative methods to

creating the meal in a brief description (e.g. if they do not have a specific piece of kitchen equipment specified in the recipe—rolling pin/grater)

• Encouragement of healthy eating, stressing the necessity of “5 A Day”

• Short memo at the bottom in small print that an adults help is preferred.

Feedback 3What do you like about the idea?I like that the recipe card is based around not just the meal, but also educating people on vegetarianism. The addition of themes again makes it relatable to children. The idea of adding an alternative for certain things in the kitchen is a great idea and could be very useful for those who do not have access to all the necessary utensils. Encourages the ‘5 a day’ lifestyle which is actively promoted.

What areas of the idea could be developed?More about preparation time and where ingredients etc will be listed.Possibly creating the car in a different shape, for example an item in the vegetarian diet. Makes more relatable to children.

What do you find interesting about the idea?I really enjoy the use of facts on the card, this allows it to become an educational tool for the child as well. The promotion of the 5 a day lifestyle is also something that parents actively encourage and is a good thing to incorporate.

Idea 4• Based on new or soon to be parents.• Healthy meals to make for young children/babies. E.g. homemade vegetarian baby food.• How to promote eating healthily in the family, tips and tricks.• More details and advanced recipes for intermediate readers (18+)• Large picture on the front of the finished product a brief description and then step by step guide on the

back with photographed diagrams of each step.

Page 9: Initial%20 ideas%20and%20feedback[1]

Feedback 4What do you like about the idea?I like the idea of incorporating the parent, child idea. This idea would give a parent the chance to start their child off eating healthily and hope that it carries on through their growth. This idea will provide more advanced recipes for older readers. The photographed diagrams will allow the reader to be able to better understand how to make the meal.

What areas of the idea could be developed?More information about preparation time etc.

What do you find interesting about the idea? I like the idea of starting healthy eating/ vegetarianism at birth or very young. It promotes a healthy lifestyle into the future.

Idea 5

• Low calorie healthy eating. How to keep a well balanced diet?

• Easy steps that can be done with traditional household ingredients.

• Affordable (aimed for students/families etc.)

Page 11: Initial%20 ideas%20and%20feedback[1]

Feedback 5What do you like about the idea?Creating a healthy recipe card will make this idea accessible to a variety of different people including people on diets or those seeking a healthier lifestyle. The use of basic household ingredients is a great idea as some people may not want to go out of their way searching for ingredients. The idea of making these meals cheap and accessible to students is a great idea as a lot of students just make whatever is cheapest for them to eat which usually ends up being processed meals, which are very unhealthy

What areas of the idea could be developed?Could be more about the recipe card design and instructions etc

What do you find interesting about the idea?ALL OF IT!

Summary of FeedbackWhat do you agree with from your feedback?I agree that I need to take into consideration the materials, finish and overall layout and colour scheme of my recipe cards as this is one of the most vital elements in terms of a attracting an audience. (Idea 4)I also agree that it would be appropriate to include nutritional values and estimated time limits for preparing each meal. For working class individuals and in specific terms, family – it can prove very difficult to fit in the required amount of nutrition around their daily routine e.g. school run. Planning quick, easy food ideas would appeal widely to fast paced families as well as individuals working long hours with restricted time for breakfast, lunch and dinner. (Idea 1 & 2) Another aspect of my feedback I agree with is that it is extremely important to promote a healthy lifestyle and stress the necessity of “5 A Day”.I also agree with adding in the concept of fun, interesting facts about other vegetarian mammals and creatures – this can be a innovative feature for younger children and can also be seen as an educational concept that they can respond to relate with. A feature I agree I feel I need to take into consideration is the type of language I will use in my recipe cards, it is especially challenging to find the appropriate language in which to approach children. I will need be both constructive but at the same time relaxed, choosing an informal language may be more beneficial in order to make a child feel at ease and have fun whilst cooking.I also agree it’s important to promote family and stress the requirement of needing an adults help when using dangerous equipment and boiling water. Often in today’s society the aspect of connection between parent and children is strongly appealed.

What do you disagree with from your feedback? We don’t disagree with any of the feedback given and will use it constructivly to create our final design of recipes cards.

Idea EvaluationWhich idea that you came up with is your favourite and why?Our favourite idea is Idea 5, although at this time it is only brief we feel that not enough products are created promoting healthy eating and a balanced diet and it is hard to find food and recipes that will benefit a person health wise. Using affordable ingredients work better for individuals such as young parents, students and people just looking for a good deal – it would also be useful to include where the ingredients can be purchased and their prices if we have the time to do so.

Which idea, that your team came up with, is your favourite and why?We like the idea of separate themes for girls and boys in idea one, this creates an individuality to the recipes and also promotes them for both sexes. Including fun colours and characters appeals more to a younger audience that learn and relate more to pictures rather than text, it’s also helpful that they can be easily read by parents and can be used as an educational feature as well as a fun time with parents.
