HOW IS MIDDLE SCHOOL DIFFERENT?

Different Classes

You go to a different classrooms for many of your classes.

You learn where each class is and what time it starts.

New Rules

Student Handbook will be taught and reviewed at the

beginning of the year.

It’s your responsibility to become familiar and follow the

school rules.

Bring all supplies to class and be prepared.

WHAT’S TYPICALLY IN YOUR BACKPACK?

LAPTOP COMPUTER -heavier item; pack it closest to your back

BINDER -try lightweight individual or ‘accordion’ folders

PLANNER/CALENDAR -can tear out used pages- store or recycle

WATER BOTTLE -Refill during the day as needed

Pencils/Pens/Calculator- bring only as much as needed day to day

LUNCH (if not buying) – consider light weight lunch container

PE uniform -store in PE locker (and take home to laundry!)

Musical Instrument -store in Music Room

Take Action

Join a club, participate in sports, explore and

experience Elective class interests

for building positive relationships.

Choose friends wisely. Avoid those who pressure you to

participate in choices that make you uncomfortable,

compromise your values or that violate school rules.

6 Periods (classes) every day

We have 2 lunch times– A or B

Language Arts and Social Studies usually “Blocked”

Math and Science periods NOT typically same teacher

PANTHER TIME (homeroom) at end of day on

Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday - mixed 6,7,8 graders

PE and HEALTH all year (PE/3 days and Health/2 days)

Early Release on Wednesdays - all classes shorter period of time

REGISTERING FOR 6TH GRADE CLASSES

Read through the course catalog that describes all 6th

grade classes.

ELECTIVES are great opportunities to explore new things

Band or Orchestra- NOTE: it is not too late to start in 6th grade.

Take home, discuss, get Parent/Guardian SIGNATURE and return it to your elementary teacher !

Due Date: FRIDAY JANUARY 27

ALL STUDENTS must return the Registration Request form.
