About Unsuccessful ApplicationsAbout Unsuccessful Applications

What went wrong?

Very often, nothing. Program budget is limited (Success rate: 35% - 40%).

Sometimes, for practical reasons: application is

incomplete or one that doesn't qualify.  Sometimes, for technical reasons:• Application was received after the deadline for

submission; • Application did not include the necessary attachments

that are required; • Application did not provide all the information we

need to reach an informed decision. • The applicant does not meet the MID Program

guidelines for eligibility.

Dos and Don’ts

The Dos:• Do read through the Program Guidelines prior to completion of

application.• Use the simplicity or complexity of your project to guide you

about the level of information you provide.• Do answer the questions actually being asked.• Be concise: Remember that yours is not the only application

anyone is going to read• Be clear: proof read and make sure you’re saying everything

you need to say correctly• Make sure that financial projections are appropriate to your

company's ressources and that costs reflect the proposed project workplan.

• Take a careful look at the application for list of all required documents. Be sure your application includes ALL of these documents and complete answers to ALL questions.

Dos and Don’ts (continued)

• Take the application seriously: don’t just throw together an application in the last moment. We get lots of strong applications and the best ones are those that are well considered and well written. Put real effort into your proposal; others are putting effort into theirs.

The Don’ts• Don’t expect the evaluation committee to fill in the

blanks: if we don’t think you’re going to be able to accomplish what you want to accomplish, we’re not going to fund it.

• Don’t assume anything about who is reading your proposal: Be explicit about what you want and why it’s valuable.
