Genie – Going places

WelcomeLike last year, 2008 is shaping up to be a very busy year for Genie Australia. Construction and engineering activity in all States is growing and the outlook for the next two to three years is very encouraging.

As most people are now aware, Genie Australia turned 10 last November, but it also marks 10 years that Genie has been operating from its facility in Darra, Brisbane. this facility has proven over the years to be an excellent base for which to grow the business, but like all growing businesses we have finally outgrown our home and we moved into a new facility in June. Our new home provides more space for Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) and service work and a considerably larger space for spare parts storage. We will also have a state-of-the-art training centre ideal for training on all Genie® and terex® equipment.

It was great to see all our friends at our customer appreciation event on the Gold Coast. With over 170 customers at the event it provided a wonderful opportunity to catch up and spread a few rumors. We also underestimated the demand for the “blue injection” on the night and promise that next year we will double the quantity. Now if I could only remember how I made it!

Also at the HRIA we launched our new range of terex® generators. manufactured

It wasn’t hard to ‘spot the Aussie’ at the Genie Industries’ Global Sales meeting Community Day last April in central Florida.

they were part of the Genie sales and marketing team who volunteered to help clean up Give Kids the World (GKtW) Village, a non-profit resort where children with life-threatening illnesses have their wishes granted. In addition to accommodation, GKtW arranges theme park tickets, meals…the works.

At the resort, the kids eat giant banana splits for breakfast, get tucked into bed by a six-foot bunny, “mayor Clayton,” and just get to be kids.

the resort features the Gingerbread House, the Ice Cream Palace, designed like an ice cream sundae, the cloud-covered House of Hearts Chapel, and the Castle of miracles.

Inside the Castle, each child receives a star for the “Star Fairy” to place on the Castle’s ceiling that evening. they actually use a Genie® AWP at night to lift the fairy into the air to perfectly position each star… and there are more than 75,000 of them.

the group dispersed into smaller units to help around the park. tasks included scrubbing the Gingerbread House, polishing the carousel, and draining and cleaning the moat for the very first time.

“this is a very humbling experience,” said Australian sales rep and chief moat cleaner Chris Wilson. “I don’t think we ever enjoyed golf this much.”

Linda mayer, Genie’s Vice President of Global marketing and Product Development, concluded the day by presenting GKtW with a $5,000 cheque.

“We appreciated the opportunity. I am delighted and impressed by what happened here today. this experience has allowed us to express our corporate values of integrity, safety and citizenship.”

the Australians and other team members were so moved by the experience they passed around the hat and raised a further $2,800. Nice one guys!

Aussies help give kids the worldat the terex factory in Rock Hill, South Carolina, we have started with 4 models ranging from 18KVA to 100KVA and we plan to expand on the range over the next 12 months to include up to 300KVA.

On our stand and at the demo day we also took the opportunity to show off our new additions to our excavator product family, the terex® tC25 and tC29. With the addition of these machines we now offer 10 mini and midi excavators which are proving to be very popular in the rental industry.

As always we appreciate your business and look forward to working hard to earn more of your business throughout the rest of 2008. Should you ever have any queries, please do not hesitate to call me on 0408 884461.

One of the biggest tradeshows on the calendar each year is the Hire and Rental Industry Association (HRIA) National Convention and Exhibition. It was no different in 2008 and this year Genie was proud to be a major sponsor.

Held at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre from may 4–7, it was a great chance for us to display some new products that we’re very excited about, as well as spend some quality time with our business partners.

One of the most popular events was the Equipment in Action Field Day held at Carrara Sporting Complex. It’s an opportunity to see some very impressive machines in their element and get a hands-on experience for what they can do.

It was also a great chance for us to bring our business partners up to speed on a few new additions to our product line. these included the Z™-40, a self-propelled articulating boom powered by an industry-first AC drive system.

Its narrow dimensions make it perfect for congested work conditions and the variable speed hydraulic power unit gives operators unprecedented control.

We also demonstrated the terex® tC 25 and tC 29 Compact Crawler Excavators. the tC 25 provides a dig depth of 2.8m and a boom reach of 4.7m, while the tC 29 offers 2.9m and 5.0m respectively. Both combine the versatility and productivity that the terex® range is known for as well as standard features including top mounted boom cylinders, offset swing boom and auxiliary hydraulic lines.

Finally, there was the new t40 and t100 terex® Super Quiet Generators. this impressive range offers enough capacity to carry 24 hours of fuel on board with accurate voltage regulation.

the whole event was a resounding success and we’re already looking forward to what we’re sure will be a great HRIA show in 2009.

the Hire and Rental Industry Association (HRIA) National Convention and Exhibition isn’t just about work. On Sunday may 4, Genie held its annual Customer Appreciation Event to remind everyone that it’s a time to let your hair down a bit too.

this year’s event followed an ‘Island Fever’ theme and saw 170 customers attend the bash that took place, after a short catamaran ride, at mcLarens Landing on South Stradbroke Island.

It was a night for us at Genie to say a big ‘thank you’ to those who have supported us over the last year and show them a good time. Upon arrival, our guests were presented with leis and greeted on the

island by fire twirlers and flamethrowers. Not a bad way to start the evening.

the night kicked on with plenty of music and dancing, not to mention the exquisite seafood buffet.

While we’re sure there were a few sore heads the next morning, it definitely was an enjoyable night had by all. It was also a great chance for Genie to show our loyal customers how much we appreciate their business.

If you missed out this year (or if you were there and can’t remember much), we look forward to you joining us next year for what we hope will again be a highlight of the show.

the excavator operators at All Sydney Civil play an interesting little game every morning.

Despite having virtually every brand of excavator at their disposal, right after their morning cuppa, they play “Rock, Scissors & Paper” to see who the lucky guy is that gets to drive the terex® tC125 for the day.

that speaks volumes about this 94hp (70kW) 13-tonne workhorse, and Greg Wall from All Sydney Civil also has a lot to say.

“We are very, very happy with the terex® tC125,” he says. “It’s an exceptional machine, small enough to get in and do the work of a 5-tonner, yet it can still match it with the best of the 20-tonne excavators. Looks great, too.”

Buying an excavator is a major purchase, and the NSW-based company established in 2005 thought long and hard about it and did “heaps of research” before opting for the terex® excavator.

“It was the German componentry – particularly the hydraulics – that finally

convinced us,” explained Greg. “No other machine on the market offered the same level of componentry – terex just doesn't cut any corners!”

the research seems to have paid off.

All Sydney Civil’s tC125 has 900 hours on it, and according to Greg, “there isn’t a sign of wear and it has never caused us any problem.”

Apparently the terex sales support team won’t let there be a problem.

“their service is unheard of. One day one of our operators hit a rock and did a seal on the track motor. I thought that’s it and went off to check something else. By the time I got back, an hour and ten minutes later, the terex guys had been and replaced the seal. No problem.”
