17 May 2016

Dear Practice Manager,

Medtech Evolution Version 10.0.1 Build 5031 is a milestone of Medtech releases, as this version

explores new Interfaces, teamed up with a technical migration from Delphi 5 to Delphi XE – which

provides the ability to support 64-bit Operating Systems. This release also showcases the renovated

applications with new components, styles and icons.

It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that ALL sites upgrade to Medtech Evolution Version 10.0.1 Build 5031

as soon as possible as ANY future changes and enhancements will NO LONGER be made

available in ANY older versions of Medtech Evolution.

IMPORTANT NOTE

Medtech Evolution (Medtech32)

From this version onwards, Medtech Evolution now supports both 32-bit and 64-bit operating

systems. Therefore the application has been renamed as Medtech Evolution. All future Release

Notes and Installation documents will refer to the application as Medtech Evolution.

Medtech Evolution provides both 32-bit and 64-bit installers. Depending on the operating system

designed to run on the Client-Server network, the practice can run the appropriate Medtech

Evolution installer.

For further information, please refer to the Medtech Evolution – 32- and 64-Bit Installers section.

The following is a summary of the key features that have been introduced, as well as the visual

changes that are within the Medtech Evolution Version 10.0.1:

1. New Splash Screen

The initial Splash screen that appears while opening the Medtech Evolution application has

been redesigned.

2. New Medtech Evolution icon

The Medtech Evolution icons that appear above the Patient Palette section have been

modified.

3. Medtech Evolution Background and Watermark

The colour of the background screen of the Medtech application has been modified from

‘Grey’ to ‘Blue’ and the Medtech watermark will be displayed at the bottom of the screen.

4. Patient Palette Enhancements

One click to bring up the Patient Register window – For ease of access, when clicking on

the Patient’s Name, Address, or Phone Number as displayed on the Patient Palette, this will

open the Patient Register screen of the Active Patient.

Smoking, Drinking & ATSI Status – The Smoking, Drinking and ATSI status of the active patient

will now be displayed on the palette

5. Actions menu

The most visible and key enhancement is the introduction of the ‘Actions’ menu. This menu

replaces the existing Context menu - which appeared next to the Module menu, as it was

associated to the active window. The Context menu will no longer be available. Instead the

Actions menu has replaced the Context menu and appears within the active screen itself.

The Actions menu will contain all the associated active screen menu options normally found

in the old Context menu.

6. Scanning Enhancements

The Scanning module has been replaced with the latest ImageEn component to enable all

types of image formats (e.g. TIFF, BMP, PNG, JPG, etc.) to be scanned as compressed files into

the Medtech Evolution application. Further enhancements in the Scanning module are:

1. Improved Performance.

2. Direct Twain scanning - without the need for any third party library.

3. Support for all image-related compression types – disk space friendly as the files are smaller

4. Ability to preview multipage scans and ability to navigate in TIFF images.

5. Ability to rotate Scanned Images.

Page 5: Information for Release and Installation Medtech Evolution · 2016. 6. 18. · The Scanning module has been replaced with the latest ImageEn component to enable all types of image

Copyright © Medtech Healthcare Pty Ltd Page 5 of 43

6. Ability to Zoom-In and Zoom-Out using the mouse.

7. Expanded image type scanning ability.

This release also provides compression processes for the different types of image formats to further

reduce the space occupied on the Servers Hard drive, when scanning at high resolutions, and

without the need to change the image dimensions.

6.1 Scan in PDF Format

Medtech Evolution has the ability to scan records/documents in a PDF format. Previously

this had been restricted to image formats of TIFF, JPEG, etc. When selecting this option,

all the documents to be scanned will be stored and displayed in a PDF format.

7. Icon Changes

All icons across the Medtech Evolution application have been renovated to an enhanced look

and to also adhere to the latest trend.

For further information, refer to the associated Medtech Evolution Release Notes – V10.0.1 B4906

document.

ODBC UPGRADE NOTIFICATION

Practices using the old EasySoft and DataDirect ODBC drivers to connect to the Medtech Evolution

Database (such as customer integration with Third Party applications and Custom Reports) MUST

migrate to the new Embarcadero ODBC driver as licensing with EasySoft and DataDirect has

expired.

The new Embarcadero ODBC driver (support for both Windows 32-bit and 64-bit), along with the

Medtech Evolution Version 10.0.1 B4906 upgrade, is available in the Medtech Evolution Version

10.0.1 Build 5031 DVD – Interbase\ODBC folder.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Java Version for Medicare Australia Online

Java Version 6 Update 37 must be installed on ALL Medtech Evolution Server and Client computers

that require access to ANY Medicare Australia Online functionalities, including Medicare and DVA

Bulk Billing, Patient Claims, Online Patient Verification and Australian Childhood Immunisation

Register. This is necessary to ensure the transmissions to and from Medicare Australia will continue

to function properly.

Please refer to the Medtech Evolution Server Installation and Medicare Australia Online Client

Installation sections below for instructions on how to install the Java Version 6 Update 37.

Installer if they are on the prerequisite Medtech32 Version 9.3.0 Build 4620 or higher.

If you are not on Medtech32 Version 9.3.0 Build 4620 or higher and are upgrading to

Medtech Evolution Version 10.0.1 Build 4906, then it is mandatory to install the latest

MedtechGlobalHIService (CDA Bridge) and eHealth Certificate Installer Version 1.19 from the

Medtech Evolution V10.0.1 DVD, once you have successfully upgraded to Medtech Evolution

Version 10.0.1 Build 5031.

Please follow the installation instructions in the Medtech32 Release Notes - Version 9.3.0 Build 4620

Information for Release and Installation

Medtech Evolution Version 10.0.1 Build 5031 is a full version of Medtech Evolution that replaces all

previous Medtech installation media. Please ensure you keep a copy of the enclosed DVD as this

will be required if you ever need to reinstall Medtech Evolution at your practice.

IMPORTANT NOTE

Your practice MUST be on Medtech32 Version 9.3.0 Build 4620 or higher to install this Update.

If you ARE NOT currently on this version or higher, please DO NOT continue. Contact the Medtech

Helpdesk for assistance.

Your current Medtech32 version can be checked by logging into Medtech32, then going to the

Help menu - Help ► About Medtech32.

1. Please ONLY run the upgrade when your practice is not required to be up and running in a

short amount of time. It is recommended to run the upgrade after hours or on the weekend

when you would have ADEQUATE TIME to complete the upgrade.

2. The amount of time required to run the upgrade is dependent on the specification of your

server and the size of ALL databases.

IMPORTANT NOTE

WARNING: It is HIGHLY recommended to employ ONLY QUALIFIED system engineers when

performing ANY installation and upgrade. The consequences of ruining a database during

upgrade could possibly lead to data corruptions and, as a result, data loss and systems downtime.

If in doubt, please consult with your QUALIFIED IT technician/service provider, or contact one of

the Medtech Channel Partners listed on our website:

http://www.medtechglobal.com/au/support-au/channel-partners-au/

Installation Prerequisites

IMPORTANT NOTE – BRIEFCASING

Ensure ALL Briefcasing Laptops with OUTSTANDING Briefcased data are CHECKED-IN prior

to running the update.

IMPORTANT NOTE – BATCH PROCESSING

It is IMPORTANT to ensure that all your Medicare and DVA claims that are to be transmitted

electronically have been completed, transmitted and closed before you upgrade to this

latest release version.

Failure to do so may result in existing claims having to be reversed, and reinvoiced in the

new Medtech Evolution Version and this may impact on the financial workflow or your

Practice

IMPORTANT NOTE

Your practice MUST be on Medtech32 Version 9.3.0 Build 4620 or higher to install this

upgrade. If you ARE NOT on this version, please DO NOT continue. This can be checked by

logging into Medtech32 and selecting Help ► About Medtech32.

1. Ensure the minimum version and build requirements are met.

2. Ensure the person(s) who will be performing the upgrade have READ THROUGH the

associated release documentation provided on the Medtech Evolution website, including

the Release Notes and Technical Instructions.

3. Ensure you are ALWAYS logged onto Windows with ADMINISTRATIVE RIGHTS when

performing ANY installation, upgrade or maintenance tasks.

4. To avoid unnecessary problems during an installation, upgrade or maintenance, it is

preferable that you ALWAYS log onto Windows in ‘Console Mode’; i.e. not through Remote

Desktop Connection, Terminal Services or Citrix.

5. A SUCCESSFUL Database Maintenance must have been performed on ALL databases.

Please refer to the Database Maintenance section in this document.

6. Ensure you have a COMPLETE backup of the Medtech32 directory and ALL databases

Prerequisites for Database Backup

Please review the prerequisites listed below and ensure they are met prior to backing up the

database:

The amount of free hard disk space required to perform database backup and

maintenance on the Interbase Server should be at least THREE times the size of ALL

databases you will be working with.

ALL Users have LOGGED OUT of Medtech Evolution, including remote users and idle

users in Terminal/Citrix sessions

ALL Services have been STOPPED; e.g. Medtech Services (for ManageMyHealth, SMS

and Portal), Medtech Data Transfer Service (for RxSQL Clinical Link), IIS Server (for

Medtech Clinical Audit Tool), eRx Services, MediSecure Services, etc.

ALL Applications have been STOPPED; e.g. Medtech CDA Bridge (for NEHTA HI Service,

PCEHR), eClinic SMSC Desktop, Pen Clinical Audit Tool, other Custom/Third Party

Applications and Reporting Utilities not supplied by Medtech, etc.

ALL Scheduled Tasks have been STOPPED; e.g. Message Transfer Utility, Auto Scan from

Folder, NPS RADAR Update/Submit, etc.

ALL Backup/Maintenance Tasks have been STOPPED; e.g. Database File Backup,

Interbase Backup/Restore, Interbase Database Sweep, etc.

.Net Framework

Your server must have .Net Framework 4.0 installed. To check the .Net Framework version that you

have on your Server:

Open the Control Panel; select the Add/Remove Programs option. This will display

the current version of the .Net Framework on your Server.

IMPORTANT NOTE: BRIEFCASING

ALL Briefcasing laptops MUST ALWAYS be on the SAME MEDTECH EVOLUTION VERSION AND BUILD

as the ‘Main’ Medtech Evolution Server. Otherwise data corruptions, and thus data loss, might

occur during the check-in and check-out processes.

You MUST install this upgrade separately on EACH Briefcasing laptop by following the same

instructions in the ‘Medtech Evolution Server Installation’ section below.

Important: Once you have SUCCESSFULLY upgraded the Briefcasing laptops to the SAME version

and build as the Main Medtech Evolution Server, you MUST then perform a COMPLETE CHECK-OUT

on EACH Briefcasing laptop.
