WORK INTEGRATED LEARNINGWork Integrated Learning (WIL) is central to our approach to education. Our renowned program enhances our students’ employability in the workplace and is an integral component of our courses. We strive to include Work Integrated Learning in every single course across all faculties with a variety of options for students.

Internships involve the placement of students in a work environment relevant to their course with a required number of hours. With supervision from employers, students learn about their unit in a structured work environment.

Industry, Research and Community Projects engage students in their local communities, research centres and industry by making a social, research, technical and/or educational contributions.

Clinical Placements are required by professional accreditation and are key components of courses in Health.

Teaching Professional Experience is a component woven into courses or units at all year levels for education. Students complete extensive classroom practice as part of their teaching qualification.

Professional Mentoring by industry experts is a key aspect of the Work Integrated Learning relationship with community stakeholders.

The University of Canberra and PwC have teamed up to offer students studying STEM-related degrees paid internships.

UC AND PWC HELPING STUDENTS EARN AND LEARN

UC’s new paid internship program created in partnership with PwC gives four students a taste of their future careers and a head-start in their chosen field.

In this six-month program, students undertake paid work placements with PwC that fully integrates with the University’s curriculum. By replacing classroom learning with on-the-job experience, UC demonstrates its commitment to mobilising its outstanding industry partnerships to produce work-ready and highly skilled graduates.

I chose UC because it’s essentially a bigger version of my home town, Wagga Wagga. As the first in my family to attend university, I found that the double degree in bachelor of Management and Bachelor of Science in Psychology was the prefect fit for me. I had previously attended the Open Days and Widening Participation’s UC 4 Yourself Day, so I was convinced early about where I would be completing my studies.

My journey so far has been nothing short of fun, inspiring and challenging, and I have enjoyed the way that living on campus has allowed me to be involved with more activities and groups than I could have imagined.

INTERNATIONAL STUDY OPTIONS

Exchange ProgramsStudents can study at one of our amazing exchange partner universities in Europe, Asia and the Americas. Students remain enrolled as a full-time student and pay tuition fees at UC while overseas.

Faculty-Led ProgramsDesigned and led by UC faculty members specifically for UC degrees, these short-term programs stretch over two to five weeks. Run like international field trips, these adventures form part of a unit, meaning students can travel and kick study goals at the same time.

Short independent ProgramsIf course requirements, work obligations or family commitments hold students back from experiencing a semester abroad, they can consider a short-term program. Available during the summer and winter breaks, they provide students with an opportunity to study and travel overseas without disrupting normal study periods. A popular choice is the Oxford International Human Rights Summer School.

International InternshipsStudents can amp up their practical experience while discovering what it’s like to live and work overseas with an international internship. Internships can be organized through the university as part of our faculty led programs, or independently through external providers.

Domestic students can apply for a variety of private, government, and internally funded scholarships to assist with study costs such as text books, accommodation, and relocation costs. In most cases, students are selected following a competitive application process. Applying is easy – students can submit one application to be considered for every scholarship for which they’re eligible.

International students have a number of government and internally funded scholarships available to them to assist with study costs and tuition fees. In most cases, students are automatically considered for internally funded international scholarships, but can apply for other scholarships offered in association with UC.

We understand that challenges can stand in the way of students gaining acceptance to their dream degree. Delivered by our on-campus education partner, the University of Canberra College is dedicated to making students’ dream to study at university a reality. UC College provides an alternative entry pathway to UC for students who may not have qualified for direct entry.

Centrally located on UC’s Bruce campus, UC College students are welcome to utilise all on-campus services and facilities.

UC College provides students with a head-start in their studies through a range of Enabling and Higher Education Diploma Programs suited to both current school leavers and mature-age students. The best bit? UC College provides students with a

direct entry arrangement into UC in either the first or second year of the corresponding bachelor’s degree.

Successfully completing one of our Academic Pathway Programs guarantees students a place at UC, and our highly-qualified staff make sure students graduate from UC College with the necessary skills to take on a bachelor’s degree.

If students have applied to UC directly but haven’t received an offer, they will automatically receive an offer from UC College.

With these fantastic options, there’s no need to panic if students have missed the ATAR cut-off or did not receive an ATAR.

KEY FACILITIESUC’s Moot Court is one of the first technology orientated courtrooms in Australia. Giving Law and Justice students the opportunity to gain court experience. Work Integrated Learning The Faculty of Health has several Work Integrated Learning options for students including professional clinical placements, non-clinical placements and research and community projects.

Many Health courses require accreditation to work in the relevant sectors after study. To gain accreditation, a pre-determined amount of clinical placement hours are required. UC organises these placements for students either within the Canberra region or rurally. Placements occur in health settings relevant to a student’s chosen degree, providing students with the opportunities to put their learnt skills to practical use.
