Welcome from the Head Organisers

It is with the greatest possible pleasure and excitement that we can welcome you to 2nd National Session of EYP Lithuania, which will officially kick off in less than 20 days.

First of all, we would like to congratulate you on having been selected to represent your school or country at the Session.

We hope that this National Session will be a truly exceptional and unforgettable experience, regardless of whether you have already participated in EYP events or not.

By making several adaptations to the standard procedure of EYP sessions, all of which will be explained in the Aca-demic Preparation Kit you will receive soon, we strive to meet your expectations and exceed them.

Of course, an EYP session is not defined solely by discussing and debating, which is why we have also worked hard on an exciting cultural programme. This, and the other elements of the session, will be explained in more detail in this Welcome Booklet.

Besides a more elaborate programme, this Welcome Booklet also serves to inform you on what to do before com-ing to Vilnius in March, what to bring to the session, and other information that might be useful. For that reason, we would like to ask you to read everything carefully and complete all tasks we ask you to do as soon as possible.

We look forward to seeing you in just over two weeks!

Gabrieleė Šimakauskaiteė Monika Nedzinskaiteė

Words from the President

Dearest Participants,

I understand that you most likely have no idea about this thing called EYP, which you have agreed to be a part of in just a few weeks. You’ll probably be reading this, having no idea what to expect, or how to feel. Hopefully I can use these few paragraphs to help you out with this.

Welcome, to what will no doubt be a life-changing experience. I imagine there are a good proportion of you who feel that you’ll be spending a weekend debating European politics, and learning about the issues around you. Firstly, let me say – you’re not wrong. But you’ll be doing so much more than that. You’ll be learning about people, cultures, and ideas that you’ve never experienced before – but most of all, you’ll be learning about yourself. You’ll be learning how to be more confident in yourself, to learn vital skills, and meet new people. But most importantly – you’ll be doing so whilst having the time of your life.

My main advice would be; make the most of every single opportunity you’re given during your time in Vilnius. These sort of experiences – being thrown into a strange environment, with people you’ve never met before – are ones you shouldn’t be worried about. If I am to make you a single promise, it’ll be that this strange environment, with strangers, will very quickly become an environment you miss as soon as it’s gone, an environment filled with people you call friends.

Hopefully, this booklet, and these words, make everything clear for you – this is something you will not regret.

I look forward to meeting each and every one of you!

Joshua Leyden

Elements of the Session

An EYP Session is an experience that is composed of many different elements – from the serious, to the light-heart-ed. Whilst further details will be provided in the Academic Preparation Kit, we have included some details about each stage here to help you prepare.

Teambuilding

Dress code: Comfortable

Teambuilding serves as the first opportunity for you to get to know your committee in a fun and challenging way. Through indoor and outdoor activities the committee will become a well-functioning team for the rest of the ses-sion.

Euroconcert

Dress code: Smart-Casual

Euroconcert is every delegate’s opportunity to shine. All the participants will gather to enjoy an evening full of talent. By playing an instru¬ment, dancing or singing, the participants will have the chance to share their skills with their peers. During the session, performers will be given a limited time to rehearse. Euroconcert will be followed by an amazing party at the same venue. Some alcoholic drinks will be provided, but please that the consumption of such beverages is only permitted for those over 18 years of age in accordance with national law.

Opening Ceremony

Dress code: Formal

At the Opening Ceremony the session will be officially opened by the Session President. The President, the Head-Or-ganisers and a representative of the Board of EYP Lithuania will be delivering speeches, as well as several prestig-ious key-note speakers.

Committee Work

Dress code: Smart-Casual

Committee Work is the core part of every EYP session. Every committee will write a resolution on their respective topic, under the guidance of an experienced Chairperson.

Committee Dinner

Dress code: Casual

After finishing up Committee Work on Saturday, all committees will have the chance to explore the city and enjoy a restaurant in the city centre of Vilnius. The organisers will arrange restaurants with good food and enjoyable envi-ronments for everyone to enjoy their last evening at the session.

General Assembly

Dress code: Formal

During General Assembly delegates have the opportunity to present and defend their resolution whilst also dis-cussing and sharing their ideas on the other resolutions. At the end of every debate the delegates vote. An elabo-rate explanation of this will follow in the Academic Preparation Kit.

Dress Codes Explained

This section will further explain the details of the dress code outlined in the previous section, in order to ensure you bring all the suitable clothing you need to.

Casual

This dress code applies to Teambuilding, whe¬re you will be doing various activities, both in¬doors and outdoors. You are free to wear any type of clothing you feel comfortable in, as long as you are able to move around actively.

Smart-Casual

During Committee Work you will be required to follow the smart dress code. You will not be expected to wear your suit, but worn-out jeans with sneakers or flip-flops do not quite fit the smart clothing requirements either – you should wear something in between. For example, presentable trousers paired with a shirt or a blouse are perfect for Committee Work. Similarly, for Euroconcert, you are expected to dress appropriately for the event which will take place in a prestigious venue.

Formal

During the Opening Ceremony and the General Assembly you will be ex¬pected to dress formally. This means suits with ties and smart shoes for the gentlemen, and suits, dresses or skirts of an appropriate length for the ladies.

Conduct & Legal Information

General Behaviour

We expect every participant to behave appropriately within the settings. After all, you are an ambassador for your own country. Participants themselves are liable for any damage they might cause. They will furthermore have a significant amount of freedom during their participation, and we expect them not to abuse this. This means that every participant is expected to be at every official event, and to behave in a responsible and representable manner. Do note that you are not allowed to leave the session without being accompanied by an organiser. Ultimately, we expect that all participants possess a healthy dose of common sense, and are all well-mannered young individuals.

Alcohol

At different moments in the evening programme, alcohol will be available. For the duration of this session, Lithua-nian law will be respected, and alcohol will only be served to those who are 18 years or older. As a representative from your home country, we furthermore expect you to behave in a responsible way. Overindulgence during the session will be unacceptable and in case of sickness or loss of consciousness due to the use of alcohol you will be sent home at your own expense.

Drugs

EYP Lithuania operates on a zero-tolerance policy towards illegal drug use; if illegal drugs are found in your pos-session or you are seen using them you will be removed from the session and sent home at your own expense. In this case, the participation fee will not be refunded. Any possession of hard drugs will additionally be reported to the police and result in your arrest.

Medication

Please note that the organisers are not allowed to buy medication for you should you need it, apart from in the case of extreme circumstances. In this case, please make sure you bring all medication needed for the duration of the Session with you, as you may have little chance to purchase more during the course of the Session.

Insurance

A valid travel and health insurance is obligatory for all participants of the session and should at least cover the loss of luggage, accidents etc. We require you to be in the possession of a European Health Insurance Card, and we strongly urge you to bring it with you to the session, as it might be needed in case of an emergency.

Managing a conference with over 100 participants requires the organisers to know where you are at all times. This means that you cannot leave without the permission of an organiser. Even when permission has been given, you must take care to stay with an organiser at all times. Under no circumstances can you leave the venues of your own accord, without consulting an organiser beforehand.
