Industrie 4.0 is the technological evolution from embedded systems to cyber-physical systems.

Decentralized intelligence helps create intelligent object networking and independent process management, with the interaction of the real and virtual worlds representing a crucial new aspect of the manufacturing and production process.

Industrie 4.0 represents a paradigm shift from "centralized" to "decentralized" production - made possible by technological advances which constitute a reversal of conventional production process logic.

Productivity and revenues:

• productivity boost in all German manufacturing sectors by €90 billion to €150 billion, (5 to 8 percent);

• Mainly Industrial-component manufacturers will gain 20 to 30 percent, (automotive: 10 to 20 percent);

• €30 billion a year, or roughly 1 percent of Germany’s GDP revenue growth (enhanced equipment, new data applications, consumer demand for a wider variety of customized products)

Employment

• 6 percent increase in employment in manufacturing sectors during the next ten years. (mechanical-engineering sector: 10 percent )

Investment

• €250 billion additional investments during the next ten years needed (1-1,5% of German manufacturers revenues)
