Experience

Zebra Technologies | Industrial DesignerJanuary 2018 - Present

Huge Design | Industrial Design InternJuly 2017 - December 2017

After graduating, I joined Huge in San Francisco to develop a variety of consumer electronics through a comprehensive design practice for clients like Intel, Samsung, HP, Axon, and many others.

Blue Clover Studios/Berry Plastics | Industrial Design InternMay 2016 - August 2016

Worked with the industrial design team to develop packaging design solutions for corporate customers, picking up knowledge on a wide variety of plastic production methods along the way.

I have worked with the global team at Zebra to introduce new products and solutions for Zebra’s wide portfolio. I’ve gained experience in interdisciplinary collaboration and design leadership with a focus on production-ready surfacing and ergonomic considerations.

The Challenge:To update, refactor, and redesign legacy keypad layouts to fit within an updated form-factor that is 10mm shorter.

The Solution:By increasing the halo around keys, we are able to improve user perception and confidence to mitigate reduced key size.

We worked in conjunction with the Intel engineering team to develop a refined appearance for the Rush Creek FPGA card. While mostly a sight unseen (and heavily constrained by airflow and thermals) we managed to boost product family alignment and create a stronger connection between packaging and product.

respirerespirator

the problem:

the solution:

Respirators are great for protecting our lungs, but have a lot of potential for misuse and often aren’t used as frequently as they should be.

Respire won the 2017 Model Solution Sponsorship Award

Respire is meant to bring simplicity and comfort to the experience of using a respirator. By improving on the pain points of respirators and dust masks, Respire aims to make respirators more personal and customizable while increasing the frequency of use.

Heat and Humidity Scratchiness MisuseProtection and Use

Problem IdentificationGaining insight from user interviews.

“The air valve helps, but I feel like I keep breathing the same hot air.”

Problem Identifier: Problem Identifier:“Dust masks are uncomfortable, but they’re cheap and easy to store.”

“I like the respirator’s rubber seal but the straps are a pain.”

Problem Identifier:“I would like to get a respirator, but I would have to use it more to justify getting one.”

Problem Identifier:“I usually use dust masks when I sand and spray-paint.”

“I use the stock respirator filters, but I’m not sure what they’re for.”

Respire has a built in fan to prevent uncomfortable heat buildup, and the bottom facing exhalation valve

prevents you from re-breathing the same hot air.

Respire’s rechargeable fan battery and control is out of the user’s sight, but the textured rubber button makes

controlling Respire quick and easy.

swapactive watch

the problem:

the solution:

Digital information can be obtrusive in some situations, especially in wearables. Many wearables lack the focus and ruggedness required by active, adventurous users.

Swap is a smart watch for active users. It is meant to create an uninhibited, unintrusive experience that allows for quick access to information.

Page 17: Industrial Designer - Ben Stibalbenstibal.com/ben_stibal_portfolio.pdfWe worked in conjunction with the Intel engineering team to develop a re ned appearance for the Rush Creek FPGA

Don’t sweat it, swap it.Swap’s bezel is designed to protect the watch screen and body from scuffs and other damage. Like a built-in case, the bezel is replaceable in the event of damage or in the need of a face-lift. That way, you can focus on your well

being and not the well being of your watch.

Repairs made easy.

modomodular hand shower

the problem:

the solution:

Design a modular hand shower system with a minimum of four interchangeable modules which perform a specific and unique function.

Modo is a hand shower ecosystem which addresses canine care, stain removal, accessibility, and exfoliation.

Modo won first place from Delta Faucet.

Modo’s Groom attachment makes the experience of bathing your dog more comfortable and natural. The Groom attachment is contoured so that it can run along the dog’s body in a

petting motion to comfort the dog. The one handed operation keeps the owner in control.

Modo’s Reach attachment makes the act of bathing easier for people with limited mobility and reduced joint movement. By extending the arm with this curved attachment, Reach enables users to access difficult areas like

behind the back and over the shoulder.
