‘‘Design can be art. Design can be aesthetics.

Design is so simple, that’s why it is so complicated’’

Paul Rand, 1997

“The details are not the details. They make the design.”

Charles Eames

“The design is done when the problem goes away.”

Jason Fried, 2012

CONTENTSCONTENTS‘‘hAIR CURL’’...............................................................4 - 5Design practice module: Consisting of a group based project of redesigning a hair curler. Utilising bleeding edge technology and thinking out of the box mentality to create a truly unique hair curling product and experience. Documented through user research, Sketch Ideation, Physical and Virtual model production and industry correspondence.

RUGGED RADIO.......................................................6 - 7Design practice: based on an aesthetic focused project to produce a ‘‘rugged’’ style digital radio around pre-made components. Focusing heavily on perceived design styles, products and interpretations of the term ‘‘rugged’’ through form and brand analysis of the term allowing a range of stylistic avenues to be explored along with freedom over finished product due to relaxed creativity driven brief.

KRYPTONITE GRASP................................................8 - 9Design and manufacturing technologies: an individual design project to produce a promotional brand relevant widget from 28grams of injected LDPE, Employing top down modelling to produce relevant injec-tion moulds, Engineering drawings and evidence of feasible production. Individual work was then chosen to be used in the group stage to be taken forward for mould production using CNC milling and machine tools.

CONNECTED HOME...........................................10 - 11Physical and virtual prototyping for design: Coding based project utilising an Arduino micro controller to produce an electronic product utilising a range of inputs and outputs to carry out an automation process working as team with a fellow student we created a humidity and temperature sensor to control the operation of a window to produce comfortable room conditions.

BAMBUSOIDEAE....................................................11 - 12A2 design: Choose to design a range of eight USB charging docks with the constraint to reduce the need for multiple power sockets and provided a charging base station for the home. Through qualitative and quantitative analysis one design was taken through to a fully operational prototype representing acommercial product. Which was constructed of 80% bamboo and being over 90% recyclable.
