Fabric A (3993-77 Sharks – Indigo Blue), cut:• (2) 5 ½” x 38 ½” LOF strips.• (2) 5 ½” x 36 ½” WOF strips from the remaining fabric, piece as needed.• From the remaining fabric, (6) 6 ½” squares and (4) 5 ½” squares.

Fabric B (3998-17 Lobster – White), cut:• (4) 3 ½” x WOF strips, sub-cut (48) 3 ½” squares.• (3) 6 ½” x WOF strips, sub-cut (18) 6 ½” squares.

Fabric C (3995-77 Geometric – Indigo Blue), cut:• (2) 6 ½” x WOF strips, sub-cut (7) 6 ½” squares.• (3) 4 ¼” x WOF strips, sub-cut (24) 4 ¼” squares. Cut the squares across both diagonals to make (96) triangles.• (2) 3 ½” x WOF strips, sub-cut (10) 3 ½” x 6 ½” strips.

Fabric D (Ink-45 Peppered Cottons – Ink), cut:• (3) 4 ¼” x WOF strips, sub-cut (24) 4 ¼” squares. Cut the squares across both diagonals to make (96) triangles.• (4) 1 ½” x WOF strips. Sew the strips together end to end with diagonal seams and cut (2) 1 ½” x 72 ½” strips.• (4) 1 ½” x WOF strips. Sew the strips together end to end with diagonal seams and cut (2) 1 ½” x 62 ½” strips.• (8) 2 ½” x WOF strips for the binding.

Fabric E (3997-77 Mini Sharks – Light Blue), cut:• (2) 3 ⅞” x WOF strips, sub-cut (12) 3 ⅞” squares. Cut (6) of the squares on a diagonal from the upper right corner to the lower left corner to make (12) Left Triangles. Cut the remaining (6) squares on a diagonal from the upper left corner to the lower right corner to make (12) Right Triangles.• (2) 36 ½” x 1 ½” LOF strips.• (2) 1 ½” x 26 ½” WOF strips.

Fabric F (White Sugar-09 Peppered Cottons – White Sugar), cut:• (4) 3 ⅞” x WOF strips, sub-cut (36) 3 ⅞” squares. Cut the squares across (1) diagonal to make (72) triangles.• (6) 3 ½” x WOF strips, sub-cut (36) 3 ½” x 6 ½” strips.

Fabric G (3991-77 Patchwork – Indigo Blue), cut:• (3) 6 ½” x WOF strips, sub-cut (18) 6 ½” squares.

Fabric H (3996-77 Words – Indigo Blue), cut:• (12) 3 ½” x WOF strips, sub-cut (144) 3 ½” squares.

Fabric I (3994-77 Fish- Blue), cut:• (2) 5 ½” x 74 ½” LOF strips.• (2) 5 ½” x 62 ½” WOF strips from the remaining fabric, piece as needed.

Backing (3992-70 Toile – White), cut:• (2) 92” x WOF strips. Sew the strips together and trim to 80” x 92” for the back.

SewingSew using a ¼” seam allowance with right sides together (RST) unless otherwise indicated. Always

press towards the darker fabric while assembling, unless otherwise noted by the arrows.

Block Assembly1. Place (1) 3 ½” Fabric B square on the left side of (1) 3 ½” x 6 ½” Fabric C strip, right sides together (Fig. 1). Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper right corner to the lower left corner (Fig. 1). Flip open the triangle formed and press (Fig. 2). Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle, leaving a ¼” seam allowance.

2. Place another 3 ½’’ Fabric B square on the right side of the 3 ½” x 6 ½” Fabric C strip, right sides together (Fig. 3). Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper left corner to the lower right corner (Fig. 3). Flip open the triangle formed and press. Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle, leaving a ¼” seam allowance to make (1) Unit 1 strip (Fig. 4).

3. Repeat Steps 1-2 to make (10) Unit 1 strips total.

4. Place (1) 3 ½” Fabric B square on the top left corner of (1) 6 ½” Fabric C square, right sides together (Fig. 5). Sew across the diagonal of the smaller square from the upper right corner to the lower left corner (Fig. 5). Flip open the triangle formed and press (Fig. 6). Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle ¼” away from the sewn seam.

5. Follow Figure 7 for the seam direction to add a 3 ½” Fabric B square to each of the remaining corners of the 6 ½” Fabric C square to make (1) Unit 2 block (Fig. 8).

6. Repeat Steps 4-5 to make (7) Unit 2 blocks total.

7. Sew (1) Fabric E Left Triangle, (1) Fabric D triangle and (1) Fabric C triangle together to make (1) Unit 3 block (Fig. 9). Repeat to make (12) Unit 3 blocks total. Pay attention to the direction of the Fabric E triangle.

8. Sew (1) Fabric C triangle and (1) Fabric D triangle and (1) Fabric E Right Triangle together to make (1) Unit 4 block (Fig. 10). Repeat to make (12) Unit 4 blocks total. Pay attention to the direction of the Fabric E triangle.

11. Sew (3) Unit 1 strips and (2) Unit 5 strips together end to end and alternating them. Sew (1) Unit 4 block to the top of the sewn strip and (1) Unit 3 block to the bottom of the sewn strip to make Column One. Repeat to make Column Five.

12. Sew (3) 6 ½” Fabric A squares and (2) Unit 2 blocks together, alternating them. Sew (1) Unit 1 strip to the top and to the bottom of the sewn strip lengthwise to make Column Two. Repeat to make Column Four.

13. Sew (3) Unit 2 blocks and (2) Unit 6 blocks together, alternating them. Sew (1) Unit 5 strip to the top and to the bottom of the sewn strip lengthwise to make Column Three.

14. Sew the (5) columns together to make the Center Block.

15. Sew (1) 1 ½” x 36 ½” Fabric E strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew (1) 1 ½” x 26 ½” Fabric E strip to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block.

16. Sew (1) 5 ½” x 38 ½” Fabric A strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew (1) 5 ½” x 36 ½” Fabric A strip to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block.

Quilt Top Assembly(Follow the Quilt Layout while assembling the quilt top.)22. Sew (4) Unit 8 strips and (3) Unit 11 strips together end to end and alternating them. Sew (1) Unit 9 block to the top of the sewn strip and (1) Unit 10 block to the bottom of the sewn strip to make (1) Side Border. Repeat to make a second Strip Border. Sew (1) Side Border to each side of the Center Block. Pay attention to the orientation of the strips.

23. Sew (4) Unit 11 strips and (3) Unit 8 strips together end to end and alternating them. Repeat to make a second strip. Sew the strips to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block. Pay attention to the orientation of the strips.

24. Sew (5) Unit 7 blocks and (4) 6 ½” Fabric G squares together, alternating them. Repeat to make a second strip. Sew (1) strip to each side of the Center Block.

25. Sew (5) 6 ½” Fabric G squares and (4) Unit 7 blocks together, alternating them. Repeat to make a second strip. Sew the strips to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block.

26. Sew (6) Unit 8 strips and (5) Unit 11 strips together end to end and alternating them. Repeat to make a second strip. Sew (1) strip to each side of the Center Block. Pay attention to the orientation of the strips.

27. Sew (5) Unit 8 strips and (4) Unit 11 strips together end to end and alternating them. Sew (1) Unit 10 to the left end of the sewn strip and (1) Unit 9 to the right end of the strip to make the Top Border. Repeat to make the bottom border. Sew the strips to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block. Pay attention to the orientation of the strips.

17. Repeat Steps 4-5 using (18) 6 ½” Fabric B squares and (72) 3 ½” Fabric H squares to make (18) Unit 7 blocks (Fig. 14).

18. Repeat Steps 1-2 using (36) 3 ½” x 6 ½” Fabric F strips and (72) 3 ½” Fabric H squares to make (36) Unit 8 strips (Fig. 15).

19. Sew (1) Fabric F triangle, (1) Fabric D triangle and (1) Fabric C triangle together to make (1) Unit 9 strip (Fig. 16). Repeat to make (36) Unit 9 strips total.

20. Sew (1) Fabric C triangle, (1) Fabric D triangle and (1) Fabric F triangle together to make (1) Unit 10 strip (Fig. 17). Repeat to make (36) Unit 10 strips total.

21. Sew (1) Unit 9 strip and (1) Unit 10 strip together with the Fabric C triangles touching to make (1) Unit 11 strip (Fig. 18). Repeat to make (32) Unit 11 strips total.

28. Sew (1) 1 ½” x 72 ½” Fabric D strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew (1) 1 ½” x 62 ½” Fabric D strip to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block.

29. Sew (1) 5 ½” x 74 ½” Fabric I strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew (1) 5 ½” Fabric A square to each end of (1) 5 ½” x 62 ½” Fabric I strip. Repeat to make a second strip. Sew the strips to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block to make the quilt top.

Layering, Quilting and Finishing30. Press the quilt top and 80” x 92” backing well. Layer backing (wrong side up), batting, pressed quilt top (right side up) and baste. Quilt as desired and trim excess batting and backing when quilting is complete.

Binding31. Cut the ends of the (8) Fabric D binding strips at a 45-degree angle and sew end to end to make (1) continuous piece of binding. Fold in half lengthwise and press wrong sides together.

32. Sew the binding to the front of the quilt, raw edges together. Turn the folded edge to the back, and hand stitch in place.
