Mission StatementMission Statement Ensure that all newborns receive state-mandated

physiologic hearing screening. Collaborate with FIRST STEPS, FSSA to ensure that infants

who test positive for hearing loss receive appropriate intervention/ treatment and that their parents receive appropriate support/counseling.

To collect information on the incidence of hearing loss. Promote public awareness and education concerning

hearing conditions.

100% of the Hospitals/Birthing Institutions reported. 97% of infants born in IN were screened. 10% did not pass initial screening. 98% of those who did not pass initial screening

received repeat screening. 1.7% did not pass repeat screening. 1,966 referrals were made – 1,142 to the First Steps,

535 to PCP, and 289 to specialists.
