“This year’s show is bursting with beautiful buds, more colorful and extravagant than ever,” said the show’s landscape coordinator, Bill Brown of William H. Brown Landscape. “There will be two to three times more color this year, so you’ll be dazzled with all the colorful hues and creative designs the landscapers come up with to attract and enchant you.”

“Our garden highlights the beauty and extravagance of living with tropical plants,” said Toomie Farris of McNamara Florist. “We have a lush tropical display of house and patio plants, with exotic bromeliads, dramatic orchids, unusual varieties of ferns and multiple varieties of lush tropical palms under a canopy of ficus trees. Plus, there are huge baskets of hanging gardens overhead, bringing a lush and exotic experience to visitors.”

“We are literally building a bridge over water and a dry pond of rocks and boulders to show our contemporary take on bridging the gap between ordinary and extraordinary,” said Lowell Rolsky of Pro Care Horticultural Services. “Visitors to the Flower + Patio Show should definitely expect to see the wow factor from our Pro Care garden.”

“Visitors to our ‘Wandering Garden’ will experience a wandering path and patio design with a soft screen created by evergreen trees, spring bulbs and flowering shrubs,” said Jim Calvin of Calvin Landscape. “After walking under a custom cedar arbor, landscape lighting

Born and raised in Dennis, Massachusetts, Chris Lambton is a professional landscaper and lifestyle expert who first won hearts onscreen in season six of ABC’s “The Bachelorette.”

Now he is the host of DIY Network’s “Yard Crashers” and appears with his wife Peyton on HGTV’s “Going Yard,” where they transform

neglected backyards into amazing spaces perfect for entertaining and relaxing.

The show highlights Chris’s landscaping skills and gardening know-how as he creates outdoor living spaces and features including patios, pergolas, fire pits and water features for deserving homeowners. Chris’ expertise includes landscaping, hardscaping, garden planning, lawn care and general maintenance of your outdoor living space.

Chris also appears on HGTV and DIY Network specials “HGTV Dream Home,” “HGTV SmartHome” and “Blog Cabin.”

Since 2007, Chris has been living in his hometown of Cape Cod and running the family’s landscape business, E. Lambton Landscaping, alongside his brother Erik.

And when he’s not in front of the camera, Chris loves cooking, running, reading and spending time with friends and family.

Chris is also very involved with Compassionate Care ALS (CCALS) as a result of his mother’s fight with Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). He continues to give back to the organization as often as possible.

Chris appears at the Flower + Patio Show Friday, March 15 through Sunday, March 17, offering attendees expert advice that includes landscaping, hardscaping, garden planning, lawn care and maintenance for all the areas of your outdoor living space.

Born and raised in San Diego, Sara Bendrick started at a young age with a passion for art, nature and an appreciation for anything living.

When she was young, she would sew doll clothes out of old T-shirts, draw, paint and dig in the dirt. Her life has been about trial and error, figuring out things as she goes.

Sara studied at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and received her Bachelor of Science in landscape architecture. As a college student, she got her hands dirty in the field working different landscaping gigs, including being a forewoman for a landscape maintenance company.

After college, she honed her residential design skills by working for a design/build firm and eventually started her own landscape design business.

Sara loves to combine nature with a built environment to create a sense of place. She has always been interested in horticulture and art, and designing landscapes allows her to combine both of her passions.

As a landscape designer with a passion for being involved with her projects, hosting the DIY Network’s “I Hate My Yard” was a perfect fit for Sara. She comes to the rescue of people who love their homes but hate their yards, working with homeowners to create the outdoor living spaces they’ve always dreamed of.

With a DIY attitude, Sara and her crew tackle tough backyards with the help of the homeowners to keep the budget in check. She guides homeowners through the renovation process by tasking them with fun, creative and aesthetically pleasing projects to take the backyard once and for all!

Sara will help Show attendees realize the opportunity of their exterior spaces when she appears at the Flower + Patio Show on Saturday, March 9 and Sunday, March 10.

How does your garden grow? Gardener and blogger Carol Michel has the answers.

Carol Michel is a lifelong gardener with a bachelor’s degree in horticulture production from Purdue University and a passion for all things gardening.

She is the author of “Potted & Pruned: Living a Gardening Life,” and considers herself a

gardenangelist — an evangelist for gardening.

Carol is an avid reader and collector of old gardening books and claims to have the largest hoe collection in the world! Her hoe collection is as real as her passion for plants and her ability to relate almost everything in life to gardening.

She regularly writes about many gardening-related topics for “Indiana Gardening” and her award-winning garden blog, maydreamsgardens.com.

Her speaking engagements feature topics ranging from vegetable gardening to garden blogging. She draws inspiration and humor from gardening books, old hoes and her own adventures in and out of her garden.

The recipient of the 2015 Garden Writers Association Silver Award of Achievement for Blog Writing and the 2015 Garden Writers Association Silver Award of Achieve for e-Newsletter Article, Carol spreads the love of gardening wherever she goes.

A 25-year veteran of newspaper journalism, Jo Ellen Meyers Sharp owns Write for You! LLC, a freelance writing and editing business. She is a regular contributor to “Indiana Gardening,” and until recently, was editor of “Iowa Gardener,” “Michigan Gardening,” “Minnesota Gardener” and “Wisconsin Gardening” magazines.

Known as the Hoosier Gardener, she has been writing a weekly gardening column for “The Indianapolis Star” since 1989, and is a frequent guest on television, radio and web broadcasts. An advanced master gardener, Jo Ellen is a garden coach and has an all-season, container planting business for both residential and commercial locations called Going to Pot.

For nearly 20 years, she has worked every spring at a large, independent garden center in Indianapolis, where she formerly was the buyer of perennials and nursery stock.

A popular, five-star-rated speaker, she is co-author of the “Indiana Gardener’s Guide,” author of “The Visitor’s Guide to American Gardens” and contributor to “The Gardener’s Garden” (Phaidon Press) and “The Oxford Companion to the Garden” (Oxford University Press).

She’s vice president of Garden Writers Association (GWA): The Association of Garden Communicators; a director of the Horticultural Society at Newfields (formerly Indianapolis Museum of Art); member of Indiana Landmarks Cultural Landscape Committee; and member of GreatGardenSpeakers.com.

Visitors get to pick their very own fresh-cut gorgeous bouquets and then take

home the scents, colors and textures of the season. Select your blooms, and a designer from AIFD will put together an arrangement just for you. While its being made, the designer will talk to you about the construction of the design, offer some tips and answer any questions you have.

Carolyn Kurek of AIFD anticipates some exciting floral trends for 2019. “We’re seeing a lot of vertical gardening, walls and stacked containers. Rooftop gardens are also still trending.” And here’s an interesting twist … “A new trend is the combination of flowers and vegetables in the same space, plus landscaping into the interior through windows and glass doors.”

Every year, the Flower + Patio Show brings in new floral arrangements and brand-new faces. “I enjoy connecting with all the people I meet,” Kurek said. “Making new friends and sharing my knowledge with those who want to learn more about floral design and the floral industry is my favorite part of the event.”

AIFD is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the art of floral design as a professional career. Members can learn about new varieties of flowers, products and design techniques. AIFD offers a variety of scholarship opportunities for students and designers who wish to further their education in the floral industry.

It’s easy to stress about having the perfect yard for outdoor entertaining — comparing yourself to neighbors or Pinterest masterpieces. But with a little creativity, you can bring the focal point to your garden party table and create an atmosphere that is magical for everyone.

And you can get some design advice at this year’s Flower + Patio Show! Five local Indiana

designers have teamed up to create a display of six farmhouse tables decked out for entertaining.

Each display represents the designer’s unique style. Designers include Jessica Madison of Jessica Madison Home, Lisa Schmitz of Where Pigs Fly, Cali Ahern and Brienn Darr of Make Merry, Brin Bigler of Union Farm Goods and Lindsay Martin of Southern Sky Design.

“I am not as big into trends as I am into the importance of embracing your own style for your garden party,” said designer Liz Henderson. “Be YOU in how you decorate, and everything will fall into place.”

The beauty of decorating is any table can be transformed into a beautiful display. Choose a table base you like, and with the help of a tablecloth and fun additions, it can be stunning. If you are working within a budget, try these tips: use mason jars and fresh clippings of greenery; use old books for pedestals for your cupcakes; and mix and match white dishes from your kitchen cabinet to create a visually-pleasing palate.

“Our hope is people will be inspired to entertain and encourage their friends to do so as well,” Henderson said. “Each designer has their own idea of what it takes to throw a good party, so you can discuss many kinds of options that fit your idea of the perfect party and start planning for spring that same day.”

The designers want to inspire people to embrace what they love and use their personal style to entertain using what they already have in their homes. At the end of the day, people just love being invited to a friendly party — and the designers hope to give attendees the confidence to open their homes and invite loved ones over for garden parties.

From lifelong gardening enthusiasts to Indiana residents looking for reliable gardening information, the Purdue Master Gardener Program offers something for everyone.

The program trains home gardeners to be volunteers. They, in turn, assist Purdue Extension with providing home gardening information to residents throughout Indiana communities.

“My favorite thing about working with this program is helping the volunteers assist the public by providing research-based, unbiased answers to their gardening questions,” said Purdue Master Gardener State Coordinator John Orick. “I love seeing the satisfaction on the volunteers’ faces when they are able to successfully help a client with their needs.”

Master Gardener volunteers complete 14-18 hours of training in home horticulture, pass a final exam and commit to ongoing volunteer and continuing education activities. So far this year, 2,306 Purdue Master Gardeners have contributed more than 138,000

volunteer hours valued at more than $3.3 million to Indiana residents. Currently, there are about 50 Indiana counties with active Purdue Master Gardener Programs.

“Interest in food gardening has been on the increase in recent years, especially among millennials, who show a strong interest in all aspects of gardening and home landscape,” said Purdue Extension Consumer Horticulture Specialist Rosie Lerner.

Featuring equipment from Recreation Unlimited, this area is designed to let the kids play and give you a chance to try before you buy. Backyard playset, basketball goal, and more will be on display and ready for your kids to explore. Located in Expo Hall.


The STEMS Flower Truck is returning to the Flower + Patio Show this year to deliver a French-inspired floral experience.

When owner and designer Katie Conway found the ’80s-era delivery truck for sale online, she knew it would be a perfect vehicle for immersing people in European culture.

“It’s all in the details for me; you’ll hear French music, taste a macaron and see a selection of premium flowers at the truck,” she said. “Just like European flower markets, we believe flowers should be fresh, beautiful and accessible to all.”

The STEMS Flower Truck has been delivering premium bouquets and curated stems to the streets of Indianapolis since the summer of 2017.

When Indiana Flower + Patio Show attendees visit the truck, they’ll find a unique build-your-own bouquet experience. Each floral arrangement is hand-tied in

kraft paper by Conway herself.

Planted right inside the Indiana State Fairgrounds, the STEMS Flower Truck will perfectly complement the show’s lovely surrounding scenery.

“We are very excited to be immersed into the landscape this year, so expect to see some unique and gorgeous scenery when visiting the truck,” Conway said. “STEMS will be there for the duration of the show, so come say ‘Bonjour’ any time!”
