Thank you for your continued commitment to supporting our Trailblazer

staff and students. We make a great team when we are working together

to achieve our goals.

October National Bullying Prevention Month:

If possible, have your child wear blue Monday, October 7 and orange for

Unity Day on October 23 to show their support in preventing bullying. The

provided link has some great resources for you regarding talking to your

School Store Fundraiser:

We are kicking off our School Store fundraiser again this year. All this

fundraiser requires is for you to do your normal shopping online all year

through the School Store website. Please watch for the packet in your

child’s backpack.

Consider supporting SHEF by attending the upcoming Haunted Hustle on

Saturday, October 19. See flyer below.

Absent Notification

• Please report your child’s absence by 9:10 AM the day of the absence.

• Homework requests need to be called in by 11:30 AM for same day pick-up.

• Any school work due to vacation absence will be given once the child returns.

Lunch Procedure

• Please remember to send a lunch with your child daily. Be sure the lunch is labeled with

the child’s name.

• Your child will need to bring a spoon and/or fork, as utensils are not provided.

• If a lunch is forgotten, parents may drop off a lunch on the cart in the vestibule outside

the office by 11:40. Please have the child’s name and teacher’s name clearly labeled.

• Children will go outside for recess daily. As the weather begins to change, please be sure

to send your child with a sweatshirt or light jacket to get them through the fall months.

School Support

• Box Tops for Education, Capri Sun pouches, pop tabs, old plastic gift cards, old cell

phones, eye glasses, plastic bags, empty scotch tape and Elmer’s empty glue bottles are

collected to benefit our school. Please send them to school in a bag with your child’s name

and teacher’s name

• Any school supply donations, books, etc. for our PBIS store are welcome and appreciated

all year long.

Communication

• Please maintain regular communication with our teachers.

• Follow chain of command if you are experiencing any concern or issues relating to your

child.

Volunteer

• The district has the Raptor Visitor Management System in place at all schools. Every

visitor will be instantly screened. You will be screened each time you visit the building to

volunteer.

• You will need to show a State ID or Driver’s License every time you volunteer.

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

• Student Drop-off time is 8:50-8:59 (no staff supervision prior to 8:50)

• Students may not play on recess equipment before school without a parent/guardian

present to supervise

• From 8:50-8:59, students enter the school using doors 15 and 11

• Students arriving after the 9:00 tardy bell MUST enter the school through the main

entrance with an adult

• First Graders exit door 15

• Second Graders exit door 15

• Third Graders exit door 11

• Fourth Graders exit door 10 (located by playground)

• Always remain in your car while in the circle drive

• Form two lines until you come to the first turn

• You will begin to merge in one at a time (unless staff are there to direct)

• Pull forward as far as you can

• Park in a designated parking space, exit the car and escort your child back to the car

• If you park and/or walk to pick up your child, stand close to the exit doors, so your child

can see you easily and be quickly escorted to the car or crossing guard.

• Refrain from double parking or parking in no parking zones

• Cell phone use while driving is prohibited in school zones (this includes the school lot)

• Follow all directions by the staff

• Be respectful to all Trailblazer students and staff

• I understand that your little ones often times like to run around while they are waiting,

please do not allow them to run through the landscaping or play by the school sign.

Indian Trail is a Bully Free Zone

We at Indian Trail EXPECT RESPECT in all areas of the school. We work hard to ensure a safe,

nurturing, and positive climate for all students and staff. It is imperative that you help us

maintain an environment that is conducive to learning and free from bullying behaviors.

What can we do together to PREVENT bullying behavior?

• Create clearly defined expectations

• Teach social skills and tolerance early

• Foster positive relationships and environments

• Empower students to support and respect each other

• Set the right examples for students to follow

• Work as a team to help unite students rather than divide them

TYPES OF BULLYING

Verbal Bullying-usually consists of

teasing, mocking, spreading rumors,

lying about others. Bullying comments

may focus on outer appearance. But to

be bullying it must occur more than one

time.

Emotional/Social Bullying- uses peer

pressure and manipulation to isolate the

target and to hurt their feelings. The

victim usually feels that they have no

friends, no one to talk to, and no way to

escape.

Physical Bullying- Consists of pushing,

tripping, hitting, or acting like you are

going to push, trip or hit another.

Cyber Bullying – Includes written or

electronic communication directed to

another to cause fear, emotional, or

psychological harm.

WHAT IS BULLYING?

• Placing a student in reasonable fear of his/her personal property or

• Causing substantially detrimental effect on the student’s physical or mental health or

• Substantially interfering with the student’s academic performance or

• Substantially interfering with the student’s ability to participate in services, activities, or privileges provided by a school

• Cyber Bullying includes written or electronic communication directed to another to cause fear, physical emotional or psychological harm.

First Graders are off to an awesome start at Indian Trail. After a relaxing summer break

students are busy settling into their new classroom routines. Children are enjoying getting to

know one another and meeting new friends. It was wonderful to see so many families attend

Curriculum Night to learn about First Grade expectations and to hear about some of the exciting

plans we have in place for the upcoming year. Students had fun writing clues and drawing

portraits to see if their families could guess who they were. First Graders were excited to

attend our first PBIS kick-off and to start earning PBIS tickets for following our school wide

expectations. It looks to be an exciting year of fun, friendship, and learning.

FIRST GRADE

Second graders started off the year sharing information about themselves and their families by writing,

“All About Me” essays, creating “Selfies”, learning about kindness, and sharing photos of themselves.

Students also interviewed one another to learn about their interests, activities and favorite things to

do. What a fabulous way to get to know one another and start the year off on a great note!

SECOND GRADE

In honor of September 11th and Patriots Day, all 3rd grade classes reflected on what it means to

be a proud American. Students read various patriotic stories, held class discussions on types of

heroes, talked about the important job of first responders, and how we came to celebrate

Patriots Day! All students took part in creating a Remembrance Quilt to honor those who lost

their lives, the first responders who rushed in to help, as well as to honor those who risk their

lives every day to ensure our freedoms as Americans

THIRD GRADE

Fourth grade students started the year discussing their names! Some classes were given

homework to discuss the meaning of their name with their families. While they were doing this,

the students were able to learn a lot about themselves and their families. Some students were

even able to research the meaning of their name and learn something that even their families

did not know about their name! Once they brought this information back to school, they were

prompted to use their research to practice their paragraph writing. As a fun follow-up activity,

the 4th graders then worked with their teachers to sketch self-portraits. These self-portraits

turned out so well. Then, they were able to write their names in a creative way to accent their

portraits. The conversations that students were able to have about themselves and their names

were truly a great back-to-school experience. The teachers enjoyed learning about their

students and the students enjoyed learning about themselves as well as their peers!

FOURTH GRADE

In physical education class, we have been working on our soccer skills! We learned how to

dribble the soccer ball, pass, and sole trap. After learning these skills, we used them to play

various games. During these games, we continued to work on being a good teammate and

encouraging others.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

This year we started the year off right with our PBIS booster

for Back to School!

The students first visited various stations to learn about the

PBIS expectations around the school. We then went to an

all school assembly to visit with Scout, and then headed

outside for some teambuilding activities. A great day of

learning and fun!

We are all RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE, and SAFE students!

The students played some team building games such as the Scout Puzzle and Alaskan kickball.

We had an awesome day reviewing the expectations! We are ready for a great year!
