Diwali festivities added zest and brought in a lot of action at school. 7 th OCTOBER CLUB ACTIVITIES JUNIOR SCHOOL- ACTIVITY BASED LEARNING Grade I had activities based on Water, Sources of water, its importance in daily life and its various forms. The process of evaporation, condensation and precipitation were shown to children through various live experiments in class. Related power point presentations were also shown. Children loved the activities. On the same day, Grade II also had a very interesting activity based on ‘Shapes’. This activity was to encourage each child to use his imagination as the shapes are building blocks of Cognitive development. The children used colored cut outs of different shapes to make a meaningful figure. Teachers were amazed to see beautiful and innovative designs made by the children.

October ushered in a host of activities. The classes of the second term started with renewed

vigour. Diwali festivities added zest and brought in a lot of action at school.

7th OCTOBER CLUB ACTIVITIES

JUNIOR SCHOOL- ACTIVITY BASED LEARNING

Grade I had activities based on Water, Sources of water, its importance in daily life and its various forms. The process of evaporation, condensation and precipitation were shown to children through various live experiments in class. Related power point presentations were also shown. Children loved the activities.

On the same day, Grade II also had a very interesting activity based on ‘Shapes’. This activity was to encourage each child to use his imagination as the shapes are building blocks of Cognitive development. The children used colored cut outs of different shapes to make a meaningful figure. Teachers were amazed to see beautiful and innovative designs made by the children.

SENIOR SCHOOL-HEALTH AND WELLNESS CLUB GRADES VI & VII

A brisk session of Zumba, Body balancing techniques and Aerobics was held. The students loved every bit of it and participated enthusiastically spending one full hour smilingly sweating through it.

COLLAGE MAKING COMPETITION The students of Grades VI, VII and VIII divided themselves into 4 groups from each class and participated in the competition. The topic being, ‘Cigarette smoking is injurious to health’. The output from the students was overwhelming. The planning as well as the execution was done by the students themselves and it was heartwarming to see the talent and creative potential in each and every child. Kudos to them!

DENTAL CHECKUP Dr. Sharmila AnandRaj and Dr. Swati Kakade conducted the Dental checkup of all the students of Grade VIII and the remaining students of Grade VII. They emphasized on maintaining good oral hygiene which is very important for the children.

12th OCTOBER MATHEMATICS DAY Students of Grade III – VIII, celebrated Mathematics Day, with the help of teachers of the Mathematics Department and the Art Department. A special assembly, Mathematics Challenge Competition, Bar Charts, Pie Charts and Poster Making Competitions were held.

14th OCTOBER JUNIOR SCHOOL ACTIVITY BASED LEARNING ON MATHEMATICS Children learn best by working with physical objects and teachers

used resources so as to strengthen their Mathematical concepts.

SENIOR SCHOOL MUN CLUB ACTIVITY Students were updated on three important committees of UN

1. UNICEF 2. WHO 3. UNESCO Students were shown small visuals on the functions of these committees. The ideology of the sense of empathy and socio-economic issues in mind, students were shown two TED talks:

By an acid attack survivor in India, about her strength to fight and

create identity not only for herself but for many other acid attack survivors like her.

By the Prime Minister of Bhutan - who described the contribution

of Bhutan as a Carbon Neutral country, their policies to be Carbon Neutral but how today this country is paying cost for other countries contributing to Global Warming

SEWA The Project “Dignity of Labour” was combined with “conservation

of resources’’ and students of ILS were taught how to recycle newspapers. The thought of conserving our resources by recycling was inculcated in children’s minds by this SEWA Project. The children were asked to bring newspapers, chop sticks, glue and were taught how to make paper bags, envelopes and papier mâché items, decorative items and tissue holders with recycled paper and newspapers.

The Students were very happy to participate and showed their best skills in creativity. They made beautiful flower vases and were told to reuse the envelopes made for productive purposes. This project is a first step in training towards self-employment.

HEALTH AND WELLNESS CLUB POWERPOINT PRESENTATION ON MONKEY POX The students of Grades VI and VII were shown PowerPoint presentation on Monkey Pox virus, which has reportedly resurfaced in parts of West Africa, with a few cases suspected in Nigeria too. The students were made aware of the causes and preventive and precautionary measures that could be taken to avoid the occurrence and spread of the disease. Queries of the students were addressed to clear their minds about the viral disease.

16th OCTOBER JUNIOR SCHOOL

A Discipline Committee comprising of ten Grade II students was formed in Junior School. This step was taken as an effort to build and develop the self confidence in the children to take on new challenges. The selected students were handed over responsibilities and they also pledged to obey the rules of the school.

17th OCTOBER MOTIVATIONAL TALK FOR SENIOR STUDENTS Mr. Ram Vaidya, a Motivational Speaker, presently residing in UK spoke to the students of grade IX to XII about happiness and the purpose of Education. He emphasized on the fact that the purpose of Education is not the happiness of sensory organs, but the happiness of the mind and intellect.

18th OCTOBER DIWALI AT ILS!

A sparkling enthusiasm marked the celebrations for Diwali. Traditionally dressed children, colourful rangolis and brightly lit diyas at every entrance created a festive atmosphere in all the campus. Food stalls, games and merriment marked the joyous occasion. In the school assembly, glimpses of the Ramayana were enacted. The children recited poems and sang lively songs. The Non-Teaching staff was found to be equally passionate about the merriment and added colour with their outfits for the day. To inculcate the feeling of benevolence amongst the children, the Non-Teaching Staff was presented with cash envelopes as a token of our appreciation towards their services to the school.

COMPETITIONS

On the occasion of Diwali, several Competitions were organized throughout the various classes that were Diyas, Greeting Cards, Rangoli, Mehandi, Tattoo, Traditional Attire, Temple and Toran Decoration. The competitions helped in enhancing the festivities and gaiety associated with Diwali.

28th OCTOBER CAREER GUIDANCE AND SUPPORT Six of our OASILS visited the school and addressed the students of Grades IX to XII and guided them in terms of careers, life on Campus and work opportunities. Aanchal Vashishtha is the co-founder of “Reach Out Together” which is Canadian Charity Group. She is also the co-founder of “People Of Dance” (Dance company related to de-stressing), CySense (IT based Tech Company) which spreads awareness about technology and the Dark Side of the Internet. She spoke at large about how to work smart and maximize on your potential.

30th OCTOBER NATIONAL UNITY DAY To commemorate Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his Birth Anniversary, the children of the Senior School took a pledge in the assembly to maintain the unity and integrity of the country.

MUSICAL AFTERNOON AT ILS The 17-year-old singing sensation from Kolkata, Kushal Paul, winner of Zee TV's Sa Re Ga Ma Pa competition visited the school. He was accompanied by his sister Isis Paul, who too had participated in Zee TV's Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li'l Champs in 2013, and had made it to the top seven. Young Kushal gave an inspiring talk to the students on strategies of how to be successful in life.

VALUE EDUCATION AT ILS: For the holistic development of the child, Value Education has been introduced throughout the various grades. The students are made aware of various values by conducting different activities like poster making, pamphlets, role plays, storytelling, positive thoughts and counselling on a weekly basis.
