TRANSCRIPT

INDIAN INSTITUTE OF FOREIGN TRADE

From the Director ndian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), which was set up in 1963 is celebrating its golden jubilee this year in 2013. During its illustrious journey over the 50 years, IIFT has

In 2004, the Institute introduced the five-year Ph.D. Programme, matching the standards of the best research degree Programmes available in Indian and overseas Universities / Institutes. It is

achieved a niche in the domain of International Business by blending business knowledge with creative research, pioneering executive development programmes, international linkages and industry interventions into the conceptual framework in its curricular corpus. The Institute has been ranked consistently among the leading business schools.

Recognizing the academic excellence of the Institute in terms of teaching, research and capacity building, IIFT was elevated to the status of Deemed to be University under Section 3 of UGC Act 1956 in 2002. Also in line with the growing need to expand the reach of the Institute, the Kolkata campus of the Institute has been opened in 2006.

In the spectrum of IIFT’s activities, research occupies a critical place because of the institutional emphasis on a strong and pervasive interface between research and training. Research activities are undertaken both as part of in-house research programmes and also at the instance of client institutions, which include Central and State Governments, various Public Sector Undertakings and International organizations like the World Bank, the FAO, International Trade Centre, UNCTAD, WTO, UNIDO, UNESCAP etc.

expected that at the completion of the Ph.D. Programme from IIFT, the students would be able to make original contributions to their respective fields that bring new insights with impact. I take pride in the fact that several IIFT Ph.D. scholars have been regularly publishing their doctoral research in reputed refereed national and international journals.

The Ph.D. Programme at IIFT is targeted at research scholars, members of teaching faculty in institutes of higher learning and universities, and professionals from private, public and government sectors. It is my pleasure to note that students who have so far successfully awarded doctoral degree at IIFT are placed highly in academic institutes, government departments and leading corporate houses.

My best wishes to you in your search for excellence and hope you achieve the same.
