    November 2013

Dear Friends,As we draw to the end of the year our hearts are full of thanksgiving for all the Lord has doneon our recent trip to India and for you, our friends who have faithfully prayed for us each timewe have ministered overseas this year.

    DELHI

The numbers at the course in Delhi were low due to sudden changes made in festival holidaysso that people were unable to attend the 5 day course. However, those who made it from 9states were extremely keen. People from the Punjab have asked for a course in their areanext year and will translate the curriculum intoPunjabi.

We had a very keen group from the Manipurichurch in Delhi, made up of those studying andliving in the city, from that North-Eastern State.

It was a surprise to see a man who had comeall the way from Orissa. He attended ourcourse in Hyderabad several years ago, but feltit was well worth coming again. At the end ofthe course it was good to pray with teacherswho felt convicted over issues in their ownlives. Four people have shown a keen interestin attending our 16 week course in N.Z.

GUWAHATIGreat progress is being made in partnering with the Baptist churches of North East India. Oneof the Ao tribe ladies, who attended this years course, came from the largest church inDimapur Nagaland. She works with a team of 150 teachers ministering to 3,000 children

    each week.

Sarah and the women shes training

On our first visit, Dr Lama the General Secretary of theCouncil, expressed his concern about the childrensministry in Arunachal State. The newest of the 7 statesto open up to the gospel, the people need much help.

CBM sponsored Sarah Tayeng to our N.Z. 16 weekcourse earlier in the year and we were stunned by the

new confidence we saw in her as she arrived with 17people from her state including a very keen pastor andhis wife. She is delighted that permission has just beengiven for her to teach twice a month in the local Hinduschool.

Manipur is another State resistant to the gospel (apart from the Naga areas in the north) andso the next person sent by the Council to train here in 2014 will be Indrani Chinir, a Manipuri. She came to Guwahati full of enthusiasm and is joining us in prayer that the Lord will supplyher accommodation and course fees as the Council can only pay for her airfares.

TEAM RETREAT IN HYDERABADThis year we began with anannual meeting of the TrustBoard so the Board and CBMteams from Mumbai and theNorth East could meet oneanother.

Joy Clement, Board memberand Director of childrensministry for the IndianEvangelical Team encouragedus all with his report. Joytrained in N.Z. in 2005.

Prior to that very few of the IET churches had Sunday Schools as the pastors were newlyconverted from Hinduism. Now the churches minister to 15,000 children in Sunday Schools, run summer camps reaching 15,000 and conduct children clubs reaching out to another16,000 weekly - over 85% of whom are from non-Christian backgrounds. They have 50 fulltime childrens workers.

IET uses Life Changers curriculum in their S.S. and so we asked Joy for his assessment on its

suitability. Well, he said, The young teachers say it is hard as they cant just pick it up onSaturday night to use on Sunday morning. They have to study each story well in order to tellit effectively. Jean asked if we needed to change it in some way to make it easier for them. No, leave it as it is. Many of these young teachers end up going into our Bible Schools andthe lecturers are very happy because they arrive with a good grasp of the Word!

Our days were full as each team member shared their highs and lows of ministry. Mostchallenges centred on the growing pains of each base, namely the need for proper offices. Atpresent the teams personal living space is crammed with boxes of Life Changers curriculumthey can hardly move around, making it extremely difficult to be efficient in despatching largequantities to churches in different states. Rental costs in the big cities are very high, so that

is not an easy challenge to overcome.
