Thank you for
feasting with us Today!
Welcome to Valley Brook
Thank you for worshiping with us today. We are very glad you chose
to spend your Sunday morning with our Valley Brook family. For
your convenience, our ushers are standing by to meet any needs you
may have during the worship service.
Welcome Home!
Today’s Scripture:
Psalms 46
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we will not
fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,3 though its wa-
ters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. 4 There is a river whose
streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. 5 God is within
her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. 6 Nations are in u roar, kingdoms fall; he
lifts his voice, the earth melts.7 The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our for-
tress.8 Come and see what the Lord has done, the desolations he has brought on the earth. 9 He
makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns
the shields with fire.10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the
nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” 11 The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our
fortress.

Outreach Blessing Bags Contribution
Our outreach ministry is distributing blessing bags. We need to raise $1,000 to order the toi-letries in bulk for the blessing bags. If it is in your heart to contribute to help us with this cause, you may donate on our website’s “Giving” tab, select the “Outreach” option, or mail a check to our office address with “Outreach 2020” on the memo line.
Sight and Sound (Queen Esther)
Dear Church Family and Friends, Thank you all for your desire and participate in our plans to see the Play Queen Esther. Several of you have asked about the trip to Lancaster to see the play, August 7, 2020, whether it was off or on. So, here is the update on the Play. At our women’s meeting, Saturday April 25th, we discussed whether we would continue with plans to attend the play, Queen Esther at Sight and Sound. Because of the Corona Virus Pandemic and the uncer-tainty of our ability attend functions in large groups without health risks, we decided to cancel our plans. This past week, I called the office at Sight and Sound and heard the voice recording stating, their offices are closed through April 30th, 2020. I will call them again Monday, May 4th, to cancel our reservations and to get information about our refund. I also canceled our reservations to dine at Good'N Plenty Restaurant and our reservations for a coach at Haymarket Transportation. Each of them noted the cancellation in their records and added that we would get our refund when their business is fully operational. I followed the telephone conversations to each company, with an email to document the cancellations and express our desire to do business with them in the future. Please, stay safe!

View from My Place
From my journal from yesterday… “Me? I’m just an an-
nouncer. A simple MC. The headliner is Jesus. My job is
to say, “And now, here He is! The Person we’ve all been
waiting for!” and then let the spotlight fall on Him. If He
doesn’t come through the curtains, I look like a fool standing there. That’s my ministry.”
Indeed, that was also the ministry of John the Baptist. “I am a voice crying in the wilder-
ness…” he said. And then again, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the
world.” The apostle Paul said, “We do not preach ourselves but Christ Jesus.” And the
iconic gospel artist Walter Hawkins put it like this: “I have a Friend indeed, one who sup-
plies my every need. Follow me I’ll show you the way. He’ll turn your darkness into day.
Follow me. I’ll point you to Jesus.”
That, in a nutshell, is the ministry of every Christian: A pointing ministry.
Around 1528, Martin Luther penned the words, “Did we in our own strength confide our
striving would be losing.” In other words, we have no power to save ourselves. We have no
power to save others. We have no power to turn others on to Jesus, nor any power to
warm the cold or tepid faith of fellow believers. All we can do is point.
But thank God He does come through the curtain of every single heart of every single
person who sincerely seeks Him. Not always on our cue, but always in His perfect timing.

We, the members of
Valley Brook Community Church,
purpose to:
Know Jesus Christ better
Understand and experience the grace of God,
and as a result, grow in Christ-like love for others;
Authentically share our lives with one another;
Serve one another, each in our own unique,
God-given way;
Be a diverse congregation;
Make our music diverse and our
worship whole-hearted;
And
Reach out to others with the attitude that we
are as needy of Christ and undeserving
of Him as anyone else.

“Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.”
Psalm 103:1-2 (NIV)
As a church family, we are committed to pray and trust the Lord for three specific areas in our ministry.
That God would use our challenges to draw each of us closer to Him.
That God would use our challenges to deepen our love for each other and unity with each other.
That God would use our challenges to release the gifts and resources of our church community to
the extent necessary to meet our needs.
