Dear Families As Term 2 draws to a close this weekwe have taken the opportunity withinthe College to gather in celebration ofthe achievements of our students thisterm At separate R-6 and 7-12assemblies this week we have had theopportunity to recognise students whohave achieved academic excellencestudents who have given the very bestof themselves in their efforts to theirstudies and students who have livedout the Colleges Heart Values and thecall to us all to be disciples walking inthe footsteps of Jesus These times ofgathering as community in celebrationare I hope important to all for theirvalue for both recognising outstandingachievement and inspiring us all forgreater success in the second half ofthis year I trust the holiday period ahead is onein which you are able to make the mostof precious time together as a familyand I offer the following prayer for eachof you and your families as I sharedwith staff for their families during thisweek

On Friday 29 June the annual winterconcert lsquoChill Factorrsquo once againshowcased the wonderful talents of ourstudents in Dance Drama and MusicThe Performing Arts Centre was abuzzwith lights sound and action as ourPerforming Arts students gathered toentertain a capacity crowd with avariety of acts highlighting the hardwork that has taken place throughoutthe semester in both extra-curricularensembles and the classroom The evening opened by Mrs MichelleHahn and the R-12 Music CaptainsMadeline and Lachlan began with abeautiful vocal prayer by the membersof lsquoThe Stars of St Francisrsquo Rec-Year 1Choir followed by the Dance Minis ledby Danielle the Mixed Bag Ensembledirected by woodwind teacher KarenRedman and lsquoThe Voicesrsquo Year 2-5Choir to round off our Junior Schoolparticipants Audiences were wowed by the Years 89 and Stage 1 and 2 dance classespresenting a number of dynamic andtoe-tapping performances while theylaughed through the highly entertainingYear 8 Drama presentation of lsquoThe EverAfterrsquo ndash a look at Fairy tale characterslong after the fairy tale has finishedThe Percussion Ensemble guided byCraig Rodda delivered high energyperformances of lsquoZombie Dancersquo andlsquoIrsquom A ManWomanrsquo and the Stage 1Band recreated lsquoLanternsrsquo and lsquoLife is aHighwayrsquo for the listening pleasure ofthe audience The vocal ensembles brought variedperformances ranging from the Latingroove and swing-style numbers of

Kanga Cup Representative ndashDawson Bojanic This year Dawson a Year 8 studentand Adelaide Cityrsquos U 14 soccergoalkeeper has been fortunate to beselected to compete in the Kanga CupThis event is the largest InternationalYouth Football Tournament in theSouthern Hemisphere It is heldannually each July in Canberra The inaugural Kanga Cup had just 35teams participate In 2016 the KangaCuprsquos 26th year of operation saw over375 teams of 5500 participants fromAustralia and overseas meet inCanberra for a week of footballcompetition Previous participating teams of theKanga Cup have hailed from AustraliaUnited States of America EnglandDenmark Italy Russia Georgia SouthAfrica South Korea Chinese TaipeiMalaysia Philippines India IndonesiaEast Timor Fiji New Zealand andothers We would like to congratulate Dawsonon his selection and wish him everysuccess in Canberra

college Arch-D Radio is a branch of thelsquoCatholic Office for Youth amp YoungAdultsrsquo (COYYA) of the CatholicArchdiocese of Adelaide and it is led byJames Meston who also provides thetraining as a free service to Catholicschools The training is conducted inthree segments Music ProgrammingAnnouncing and Music ProductionJames will be visiting our College againon 24 August and 7 September tocomplete the training program with thesame nine students At the end of eachtraining day one radio-show iscompleted and is ready for broadcaston 1079 LifeFM the following week Itwill then be uploaded on the Collegewebsite as a podcast The students taking part in thisprogram were asked to come readywith responses to the followingquestions as a way of providing acontext for the planning andpreparation of the radio-show 1) Something in their lives they arereally interested inpassionate about 2) The thing about their school theyare most engaged in

Music is Fun On Friday 23 June the R-6 communitygathered with families and friends forthe Music is Fun Band PerformanceThe students had been working hard allterm to learn the songs to sing alongwith the band Some students werealso given the opportunity to dress upand perform special roles Some favourite songs from the daywere lsquoBetter When Irsquom Dancingrsquo whicha group of Year 6s choreographed andperformed lsquoThe Bellybutton Songrsquo lsquoEatitrsquo and a special performance of lsquoWersquoreall Made of Starsrsquo by a group of Year 6singers It was a wonderful example of howmusic brings us together and we lookforward to doing it all again next year

Meet the Writers Festival Adelaide Convention Centre

Last week was all about safety Wepracticed our lock in drills fire drills andhow to unlock the service phone in case ofan emergency The children allparticipated and were engaged when itcame to group time and we discussed theimportance of safety
