Back on the road again! We sure have waited a long time for it, but spring has sprung and summer is just around the corner! Whether for business or pleasure, warmer weather tends to lead to more time spent on the road. As National Distracted Driving Month wrapped up in April, I want to remind you of all of the daily distractions we have behind the wheel. Everyday distractions exist with the new technologies in our vehicles, passenger distractions, and eating your breakfast on the run, to name a few. AAA remains dedicated to promoting road safety and reducing driver distraction through research, public education and collaboration with automakers and system designers to improve the functionality of new infotainment systems and the demand they place on drivers. So before you get behind the wheel I remind you to keep your eyes on the road, your hands on the wheel, and remain focused on the road ahead. But before you get on the road, remember that AAA has many resources available. Whether your form of transportation is a bicycle, automobile, motor coach, or motorcycle your AAA membership can come in handy. You may remember when we launched Bicycle Roadside Assistance last July to support our pedaling travelers. Now if your bike becomes disabled you can request roadside assistance to get you and your bike back to your car, bike shop, or home. If you are an avid bicycler you may also be interested in reading the bike safety tips on page 15 in support National Bike Safety month. I also remind you to utilize our mobile app for routing your trips. Paper TripTiks are still available but you can now utilize our mobile app on your smartphone or tablet to download directions, read TourBooks, request roadside assistance and even find the lowest gas prices along your commute. The Mobile App is truly a handy tool to have by your side. You may also need some handy car accessories for your trip ahead. All of our offices offer Travel Stores stocked with items including trunk organizers, emergency auto tools, EZ Pass holders and transponders, and fun activities to keep the kiddos occupied. Last but not least, if you are purchasing a new vehicle for your travel needs be sure to utilize our License, Title & Tag services. These services are available to all members and non-members of AAA. And keep in mind, as an added benefit, AAA members save even more on these services! You can also save more on your Title, Transfer, and Renewal needs for ATVs and Boats. And we offer Boat Launch permits, too.

Looking for something to do on a Saturday or Sunday? Do you love cars and planes? Here is a story from a local member regarding their Sunday drive to Eagles Mere, PA (Sullivan County) to visit the Eagles Mere Air Museum and Auto Museum located between Eagles Mere & Laporte. The beautiful landscape of the countryside while driving was breathtaking. There is nothing like the rolling hills of Pennsylvania. Upon arrival we were pleased to see that we arrived just in time to see a plane getting ready for takeoff. As we watched from the observation deck, equipped with chairs and benches multiple planes took off, flew overhead and landed. The pilots were very personable and the entire staff too! After watching the planes we walked over to the Auto Museum. What a collection! The museum houses Airplanes from 1917-1944, airplane engines, and related toys and artifacts from “Golden Age of Aviation”—1908 to 1935. Most of the collection of planes fly regularly (weather permitting). The museum is also filled with cars from the 1930’s thru 1960/early 70’s along with neon and metal signs, gas pumps and so much more… “Lefty’s Garage was transferred in its entirety from a neighboring town. The museum is open mid-May thru mid-October Saturday & Sunday 11-4. Call 1-844-EMAMUSEUM or online at EaglesMereAirMuseum.org. Admission to one museum: Adults - $6; Families with children under 17 - $14. Admission to both museums: Adults - $8; Families with children under 17 - $18. Picnic tables and concession stands are available too.

Attention Motorcyclers Whether you are a seasoned or new motorcycle rider you may want to consider the Pennsylvania Motorcycle Safety Program (PAMSP). Training is offered for motorcycle drivers of all levels and includes: aspiring new riders, semi-experienced, three-wheeled, and advanced riders. Pennsylvania Motorcycle Safety Program clinics focused on developing operator proficiency among prospective, experienced, and new Pennsylvania riders. Clinics are offered free-of-charge to Pennsylvania residents who have a motorcycle learner’s permit or motorcycle license. Even if you are a seasoned rider it is important to practice and refine riding techniques from time to time. Developed by PennDOT’s new program coordinator, Total Control Training Incorporated, PAMSP will offer five revamped training syllabuses tailored not just to hone a rider’s knowledge, but to test their ability to physically manipulate a motorcycle properly. All training clinics are conducted under the supervision of certified instructors at one of numerous riding ranges located throughout the state. Three of the clinics – the Beginning Rider Clinic (BRC), the Intermediate Riding Clinic (IRC), and the 3-Wheel Riding Clinic (3WRC) - offer a pathway to earning a motorcycle license. Motorcycle learner’s permit holders who successfully complete the BRC, IRC or the 3WC will be issued a motorcycle license. Those who successfully pass their skills test on a three-wheeled motorcycle will be issued a motorcycle license with a “9” restriction, meaning they are prohibited from operating a two-wheeled motorcycle. For those would-be riders who are still not sure if they want to ride, PAMSP offers the new, four-hour Introduction to Riding Clinic (ITR). This non-licensing clinic teaches fundamental skills for operating a two-or-three wheeled motorcycle and progresses from classroom to street skills and strategies. Students are provided with a motorcycle and helmet. Rounding out the PAMSP offerings is the Advanced Rider Clinic (ARC), a one-day clinic for experienced riders who want to enhance their safety skills through attitude and awareness. The clinic is designed to enhance a rider’s ability to avoid a crash through honing their decision-making abilities, riding strategies, risk management and rider behavior and choices. In addition to the benefit of improving riding skills, according to the Pennsylvania Insurance Department, many insurers offer discounts for motorcyclists who have completed safety courses, have memberships in certain associations, or have a safe driving record. Anti-lock braking systems help maintain control during sudden stops, and some insurers offer discounts for motorcycles with factory installed anti-lock braking systems. Individuals should check with their insurance company for any applicable discounts.

Search “identity theft” on the internet, and you’ll get millions of results. With an overwhelming amount of information available on this growing crime, it can be tough to get a handle on how identity theft affects you, and more importantly, what you can do to keep your personal information safe. What is identity theft? Identity theft occurs when someone’s personal information is fraudulently obtained and used for financial gain—often years after the original theft. Not only does identity theft invade your privacy, it robs you of your most valuable asset: peace of mind. How do thieves steal your identity? While the most common form of identity theft—85 percent—involves the illegal acquisition of credit cards and account information, there are many methods thieves use to steal your private information, such as your Social Security number, to commit fraud, including1: • Data Breaches: A data breach occurs when secure data is wrongly released to or accessed by unauthorized individuals. Breaches are perpetrated by a single hacker, an organized crime group, or even other governments. Thieves can sometimes wait years after a data breach to sell or misuse stolen information. In 2016, more than 31 percent of data breach victims experienced identity theft, compared to less than 3 percent of those not notified of a data breach.2 • The Dark Web: Think of the internet as a three-layer cake. Layer one is the public web where leading sites, like Google, reside. The second layer includes non-public sites, such as corporate intranets. The final layer is the Dark Web. The Dark Web is an illegal marketplace where visitors mask their identities to buy and trade someone’s personal information, including passport numbers, birthdates, and more. • Phishing: Phishing scams attempt to retrieve personal and/or financial information, including computer passwords and credit card details, to defraud or steal someone’s identity. ‘Phishers’ try to convince you to share data, and if successful, use it to defraud you. • Snail Mail Fraud: Despite digital delivery systems such as electronic bill pay, identity thieves still use mailboxes to steal personal information, including taxinformation, Social Security and health insurance data.

Identity Theft: What is it and what you can do about it? How many people are affected by identity theft? More than 15 million Americans have experienced identity fraud and theft, with $16 billion stolen from their wallets, banking and credit accounts, personal computers, mobile phones, and even social media accounts.3

Although people between the ages of 25-64 experience the highest rate of identity theft, no one is safe, not even children4. In fact, nearly 1 million children have been victims of identity theft since 2011.5 What can you do to prevent identity theft? While there’s no way to stop identity theft from happening entirely, there are steps you can take to help prevent it. To get started: 1. Monitor your credit reports: Check your report from all major bureaus—Experian®, Equifax® and, TransUnion®, for fraudulent activity. 2. Monitor your bank accounts: Check for suspicious activity. If you spot something, address it immediately. 3. Secure your accounts: Create a strong password. Even better, make it a passphrase and create a unique login for each of your social media and email accounts. 1 “Bureau of Justice Statistics. (2015). Victims of Identity Theft, 2014 (NCJ 248991)”. Important reminder that the Clarks Summit and Keyser Avenue toll plazas are still in line to convert to cashless tolling in spring 2018. Once the cashless tolling goes into effect you will only have 2 options to pay.

Option 1 EZ-Pass You can purchase an EZ-Pass transponder at your local AAA North Penn office. It is important to note that you must register your transponder within 72 hours of purchase. By registering your transponder, you are establishing an E-ZPass account allowing toll transactions to be deducted electronically from a pre-paid account. The Go Pak has an initial balance of $38. A $3 charge will be assessed for the initial annual fee, and $35 will be available for tolls.

Option 2 Cash Customers Toll By Plate PA Turnpike TOLL BY PLATE is a license plate tolling system for non-E-ZPass customers, and is only available at cashless tolling points on the PA Turnpike. Cameras mounted overhead on the tolling facility capture a vehicle’s license plate as it proceeds through at posted speed, and an invoice is mailed to the owner of the vehicle. A list of active cashless tolling points can be found at www.nocashzone.com. High-speed cameras mounted overhead on the tolling facility capture license plate images as vehicles pass through at posted speed. The registered owner of the vehicle receives an invoice for all trips made through the tolling point. Tolls can conveniently be paid online, by phone and through the mail. Customers who receive a TOLL BY PLATE invoice will be charged the “cash” toll rate. However at the time of payment, they have the option to open an E-ZPass account to receive the discounted rate. Customers have 20 days to pay their invoice before a second invoice will be issued. If the first invoice is not paid, the second invoice will include an additional fee of either $5 or the equivalent of 1.5% of the total amount owed, whichever is higher. This additional fee on the second invoice is necessary to recover administrative costs. Invoices not paid after the second notice will be sent to a collections agency. This invoice is not a violation. Please see the Violations Page if you received a violation in the mail.

Rental Vehicles Customers with rental vehicles should check with the rental company about their policy with regards to travel on toll roads. Each rental company may have a unique process for handling tolls or violations incurred with a rental vehicle. Please see the Rental Vehicles page.

PA Turnpike continues to go cashless

Today, more and more people are trying to stretch their budgets and get the most for their hard-earned dollars. Some are reconsidering their insurance choices. It is so important today to make the right financial decisions for you and your family. Sometimes this is no easy task. The financial impact of an accident is often just as unexpected as the accident itself. After an accident occurs, you may have additional medical expenses that are not covered by health insurance. Even when an accident takes place, expenses including co-pays, deductibles and even every day expenses such as the mortgage, tuition bills, and utilities - still need to be paid.

Allergies in cats and dogs Just like humans, cats and dogs can suffer from a variety of allergies – whether that is environmental, seasonal, or food related – and it’s the 8th most common reason why pets go to the vet. Healthy Paws saw over 12,000 new cases of allergies just last year, with the highest instance in Greenville, SC. Caused by the immune system reacting to a substance or particles in the air, pet parents see the following symptoms: • Food allergies mean vomiting, diarrhea, and excessive flatulence. Histamine production can result in your pet’s skin being painful, hot to the touch, or uncomfortably itchy. This can lead to hives or sores, as well as baldness, bleeding, and infections. • Sneezing, watery eyes, and lethargy is also reported. COMMON ALLERGIES From pollen to mold to dust, environmental allergies give cats and dogs the sneezes with irritated eyes, but they also can suffer from itchy rashes and dermatitis symptoms. Cats suffering from environmental allergies may be more prone to excessive grooming, while seasonally allergic dogs will start gnawing on paws or hot spots. Flea allergies, also known as “flea dermatitis,” can be miserable for pups and kitties too – skin rashes and itchy spots can result in painful lesions. Common food allergies in cats and dogs include beef, lamb, seafood, corn, and many fillers in dry and wet food. Food allergies aren’t influenced by gender, breed, size, or even age; dogs and cats (and people) develop them at any point in their lives. Taking your pet to the vet will help diagnose them properly, and also get them relief!

TREATMENT An easy test administered by your vet will help determine what your pet is allergic to. While there aren’t too many things you can do to prevent allergies, there have been studies that say probiotics can help boost immunity to allergens. Additionally, remember to wipe down paws after walks or at the end of the day, and schedule regular bathing with a hypoallergenic shampoo. For food allergies, read all your dog and cat food nutritional labels and avoid the offending ingredient altogether, or try your hand at cooking up your own pet food. Effective Recorder You may have heard of an aircraft flight data recorder, or “black box,” but did you know that your car may be equipped with something similar? Ninety-five percent of new vehicles have an onboard Event Data Recorder (EDR) that captures and stores vehicle data for several seconds before, during and after any crash where an airbag is triggered or there is an excessive rate of vehicle deceleration. Compared to their airplane counterparts, EDRs have limited capabilities. The latest digital flight data recorders capture more than 700 pieces of information and the plane’s position, while the companion cockpit voice recorder stores the last two hours of flight crew communications. EDRs, on the other hand, generally gather data for a minimum of 15 parameters, including speed, acceleration and braking, and do not record vehicle location or audio data. EDRs first appeared in vehicles in the mid-1970s as a way for automakers to monitor airbag performance and aid in making modifications to improve their

effectiveness. Since then automakers, researchers and law enforcement have used EDRs for a variety of purposes, including crash reconstruction. Following a collision, drivers may not recall all of the events, but information gleaned from the EDR can provide a reliable snapshot of what the vehicle and driver were doing just before and after a crash. Information from the EDR is then used in conjunction with other crash analysis techniques to provide investigators with a full picture of what happened. So, how do you know if your car is equipped with an EDR? Their appearance and locations vary widely in vehicles, so it’s important to consult your owner’s manual. Federal law requires that all cars built after Sept. 1, 2012 include a notice in the owner’s manual if a vehicle has an EDR. The manuals for cars built before that date may or may not contain a notice, however, lists of car models with EDRs can be found at http://bit.ly/2CkKUNG and http://bit.ly/2h0zwNc.

It’s been a long, demanding winter for your vehicle but now it’s time to get prepared for the summer months ahead. Summer’s heat, dust, and stop-and-go traffic, take a real toll on your vehicle. You can lessen the odds of mechanical failure through periodic maintenance. Some of the following tips are easy to do; others will require a skilled auto technician. Air Conditioning – A system that is operating marginally will likely fail in hot weather. If it’s not blowing cold air, have the system examined by a qualified technician. Cooling System – The most common cause of summer breakdowns is overheating. The cooling system should be flushed and refilled with factory approved coolant at the interval specified by the vehicle manufacturer (a 50/50 mix of coolant and water is usually recommended). The coolant level, condition, and antifreeze concentration should be checked at every oil change. Remember – never remove the radiator cap until the engine has cooled! Also, don’t forget to check the condition of accessory drive belts and coolant hoses/clamps – or have a professional do it. Oil – Change your oil and oil filter at the intervals recommended by your car’s manufacturer. Many newer vehicles have in-car oil life monitoring systems that alert the driver when an oil change is due. If you use your vehicle for frequent short trips, heavy hauling or trailer towing, more frequent oil changes will be called for. Engine Performance – Replace other filters (air, fuel, cabin PCV, etc.) as recommended – more frequently in dusty conditions. Get engine drivability problems (hard starts, rough idling, stalling, diminished power, etc.) corrected as soon as possible at a reputable repair shop. Windshield Wipers – A dirty windshield causes eye fatigue and can pose a safety hazard. Replace worn wiper blades and make sure you have plenty of windshield washer solvent on hand. Washer fluid formulated for summer use aids in bug removal. Lights – Inspect all lights and replace any burned out bulbs. Periodically clean dirt and insects from all lenses. To prevent scratching, never use a dry rag. Badly weathered plastic headlight lenses can be restored by professional services or

using do-it-yourself kits available at auto parts stores. Tires – Have your tires rotated every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. Check the tire pressure once a month when the tires are cold. Don’t forget to check your spare as well, and make sure the jack is in good condition. Examine tires for tread depth, uneven wear, and cupping; check the sidewalls for cuts and nicks. Uneven tread wear or a car that pulls to one side could indicate the need for a wheel alignment. Brakes – Brakes should be inspected as recommended in your owner’s manual, and sooner if you notice pulsations, grabbing, noises, or increased stopping distances. The brakes area critical safety systems and any problems should be addressed as soon as possible. Battery – Batteries typically last three to five years and can fail any time of year. The best way to identify a weak battery is with professional test equipment. Routine care can help make your battery last longer. Clean corrosion from posts and cable connections; wipe away dirt and oil deposits on the battery, and make sure all connections and hold down hardware are secure. If the battery caps are removable, check the fluid level monthly. Wear eye protection and rubber gloves when working with batteries, and avoid contact with corrosive deposits and battery acid.

Driver Safety

Research from AAA Foundation finds 60% of teen crashes involve distraction Over the past five years, more than 5,000 people have been killed in crashes involving teen drivers during the “100 Deadliest Days,” the period starting at Memorial Day when teen crash deaths historically climb. As the summer driving season begins, the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety is releasing a follow-up study confirming that nearly 60 percent of teen crashes involve distractions behind the wheel. The research also finds a disturbing trend showing that texting and social media use are on the rise amongst teen drivers. This year’s new follow-up report from the AAA Foundation is part of the most comprehensive eight-year research project ever conducted into crash videos of teen drivers. In collaboration with researchers at the University of Iowa, the AAA Foundation analyzed the moments leading up to a crash in more than 2,200 videos captured from in-car dash cameras. The latest report compared new crash videos with those captured from 2007 -2012 and found consistent trends in the top three distractions for teens when behind the wheel in the moments leading up to a crash: • Talking or attending to other passengers in the vehicle: 15 percent of crashes • Talking, texting or operating a cell phone: 12 percent of crashes • Attending to or looking at something inside the vehicle: 11 percent of crashesResearch by the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute found that texting creates a crash risk 23 times worse than driving while not distracted. A recent AAA Foundation survey shows that nearly 50 percent of teen drivers admitted they had read a text message or email while driving in the past 30 days. NHTSA’s National Occupant Protection Use Survey also shows that from 2007 to 2014, the percentage of young drivers seen visibly manipulating a hand-held device quadrupled. Keeping cell phones out of the hands of teen drivers is a top priority for AAA. The Association’s advocacy efforts are helping to protect teens by working to pass graduated driver licensing laws and teen wireless bans in states across the country. In preparation for the “100 Deadliest Days”, AAA encourages parents to educate their teen about the dangers of distracted driving and monitor their actions behind the wheel. Parents should: • Have conversations early and often about the dangers of distraction. • Make a parent-teen driving agreement that sets family rules against distracted

May Is Bicycle Month - Ride Safe! Warmer weather also means an increase in traffic on the roads, including bicycles. What a better month than May to review some helpful safety tips prior to taking to the road. • Wear proper equipment including a helmet. When worn properly are up to 85 percent effective in protecting the head and brain in the event of a crash. • Be a good rider. Always follow the rules of the road like riding with traffic, using the rightmost lane and obeying the same laws observed by motorists. Note: Signal all turns. • Let them know you’re there. Ride where drivers can see you and wear bright colors during the day and reflective gear in low light conditions. Use head and tail lights at night whenever possible. • Be predictable. Don’t be swerving between parked cars or acting irresponsible especially in areas with a high volume of traffic. Make eye contact with motorists to let them know where you are. • Drive defensibly. Be aware of the traffic conditions around you and be pre-pared to take evasive action, exercising additional caution at intersections even if you have the right-of-way. • As with motorcycles, motorists need to stay alert especially when approaching areas known to be used by bicycle riders. Always yield to a person on a bicycle. • Slow down and allow at least three feet of clearance when passing a person on a bicycle. • Rainy days. When the weather is poor give bicyclists extra passing room, just as you would other motorists. • Never honk your horn at a bicyclist. It can startle the rider and cause him or her to swerve off the road or into traffic. • Proceed with caution - whenever you see a person on a bicycle - especially children who are often unsteady and unpredictable. Are you making needed safety adjustments to your vehicle? Nearly 90 percent of older drivers do not make inexpensive adaptations to their vehicles that can improve safety and extend their time behind the wheel, accord-ing to new research from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety. Common vehicle adaptations like pedal extensions, seat cushions and steering wheel covers can help to improve safety by reducing a senior driver’s crash risk. Seniors aged 65 and over are more than twice as likely as younger drivers to be killed when involved in a crash. AAA urges seniors to consider making the necessary adaptations to their ve-hicles in order to reduce crash risk and extend the time they can continue to drive.

Of those drivers who have a device, almost 90 percent reported that they did not work with a trained professional to install the modifica-tion, a key recommendation by both the National Highway Traffic Safety Adminis-tration (NHTSA) and the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). AAA urges drivers to consult with a trained technician to guide them in making adjust-ments to their vehicle. Vehicle adaptions also benefit seniors’ mental health by extending their time on the road. Previous research from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety shows that seniors who have stopped driving are almost two times more likely to suffer from depression and nearly five times more likely to enter a long-term care facility than those who remain behind the wheel. For more information contact your local AAA office or visit www.seniordriving.aaa.com for tips and tools for assisting seniors to drive safer and longer. Make sure to review the ‘Smart Features for Older Drivers tool’, which can help drivers identify in-expensive devices and vehicle features that optimize your comfort and safety.

Frequently Asked QuestionsDoes Pennsylvania have a ban on using a cell phone while driving? Currently in the state of Pennsylvania, a texting while driving ban has been in effect since 2012. This is a primary law and police officers have the right to pull an individual over and give them a ticket for texting while driving without having to witness another moving violation. The law does not prohibit drivers from talking on their cell phones while operating their motor vehicle. Representatives in our state have called for tougher laws and a couple bills have been filed to allow cities themselves to decide on their own cell phone ban or not. Even with talk to text features and Bluetooth enabled smart phones, you may not be physically distracted while driving, but you are still mentally distracted. Always remember, hands on the wheel, eyes on the road, and your mind on driving.

How many Hertz? AAA & Hertz, a forty-year partnership. Forty? Did you say forty? Yes, we said forty…can you imagine that AAA and Hertz Car Rental are celebrating 40 years of partnership in May? In the days when establishing relationships between businesses was relatively uncommon, AAA and Hertz saw the benefits not only to each other but primarily to their customers. As a result, the two have combined to offer 40 years’ worth of specials, savings, and select programs that have enhanced their customers’ experiences with both organizations. And to remind you of all of the programs and opportunities that have been yours over the years, AAA and Hertz want to offer even more. Throughout the month of May, AAA members will receive an extra 15% off the base rate of a Hertz leisure weekend or weekly rental, in addition to the standard AAA discount given when PC # 204184 is applied. This offer is valid for a minimum of one day of weekend rental and 5 days for weekly rentals. An advance reservation is required and is available in participating Hertz locations in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico.

Of course all of the Hertz programs you have come to expect from the rental giant are still available as well. Use your Hertz Gold Plus Rewards, and remember that a free child seat comes with each rental. There is no charge for additional drivers either. The pick-up and drop off areas are covered for your protection and convenience, and every car includes the Hertz NeverLost in-car navigational system. The system includes AAA Diamond ratings for your destination, too. So as you begin to make plans for the summer, remember the advantages that are coming your way in May. Additional savings beyond your membership – even on a sporty convertible, a luxury SUV, or an environmentally friendly Prius are yours for the asking. Call AAA Travel for more information, or to learn more about the sites and locations where your AAA membership card becomes even more valuable. There are benefits to enduring partnerships – enjoy yours today thanks to AAA and Hertz! Here’s to at least 40 more! Congratulations!

This AAA Member Choice Vacation will let you soak up many facets of select Italian cities, the countryside, the history, the culture, and of course the food and wines. Begin your adventure in Rome with a locally guided tour of this classical city. The Forum and the Colosseum are just two of the stops along the way – Italy is feeling so real to you! A day on your own might find you at Vatican City before heading to Pompeii and the Sorrento Coast, where 2000 years of history unfold before you. Then it is on to Florence, including Michelangelo’s magnificent statue of David as well as delicious regional wines and cuisine. Of course you will see the Leaning Tower of Pisa continue to lean before heading on a boat tour to Murano Island. Then it is on to the world famous 117 islands connected by a latticework of 150 canals and 400 bridges – we speak of Venice, the iconic city where a gondola ride is the norm for many visitors as they go from one end to the other. Perhaps before your trip is over, you will cross the border to Switzerland before your farewell dinner sends you back home. This can be yours if you call AAA Travel today to reserve your place with Ralph Casale and the group. Ciao!

to find the places, the people and the experiences that brings Italy to life. Mornings strolling through a Florentine market finding the freshest ingredients; afternoons exploring artists’ studios and their timeless pieces of art in Perugia; evenings dining with friends and family in the homes, and sometimes even castles, of Tuscany, taking in their stories and history; through experiences like these, Trafalgar takes you straight to the heart of Italia. We all have the same cravings and desires when traveling to Italy: to travel back in time to the age of gladiators, and to step into an era of extravagance and luxury. Through Trafalgar’s expertly curated Italian trips, you get more than just the essentials taken care of, you get the complete experience. Forget about lugging around your bags, finding a place to get breakfast, or working out the schedule to see how long it will take you to get from Rome to Venice; Trafalgar will take care of it all. You are free to marvel at the centuries-old architecture, connect with locals who will guide you to the best pizza in town, and most importantly, relax and unwind under the bellissimo night sky. At the Castello del Trebbio, you are hosted at a traditional Tuscan buffet, filled with some of Italy’s best olive oils and wine, hosted by Trafalgar’s dear friend, Alberto Peroni. Set amidst the green hills of Chianti, Italy, sit back and absorb the stories and history that exude from the 12th century royal façade, all before exploring the grounds yourself, discovering the splendid life of the Baj Macario family, who own and live in the Tuscan castle. It’s once-in-a-lifetime moments like these that allow you to truly appreciate what you are experiencing. With Trafalgar, experience moments like these every day. Journeying to the Roman corner of the world, Trafalgar has found, and continues

The Newest Celebrity! Celebrity Cruise Lines is announcing an addition to their cruise family that is sure to generate excitement throughout the industry. Its’ first new ship in 10 years will have a certain “Edge” to it, especially when it comes to the culinary experiences for which Celebrity is renowned. The Celebrity Edge’s maiden voyage is scheduled to depart from Fort Lauderdale November 21, 2018. It will take travelers on a series of Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises, and those passengers are in for a culinary experience beyond their wildest dreams. Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, President and CEO of Celebrity Cruises, explains, ”When you have a clean slate (of a new vessel) to begin with, you think about the things that you do right that would be unique and that amplify a main pillar of our DNA, which is culinary.” As a result, the Edge will feature four main dining rooms as well as six new Celebrity specialty restaurants. Two of the signature restaurants will return, leaving passengers with only 15 cafes and restaurants and 12 bars and lounges from which to choose! “Having four main dining rooms is a way to offer a more intimate dining experience and also offer more variety in the restaurants,” Lutoff-Perlo continues. “The basic menu will be the same across all four and it will change nightly, but there will also be a featured menu in all four restaurants, inspired by the restaurant itself.” One dining choice will be the Normandie, inspired by the Murano, a fine dining venue featuring contemporary French cuisine. Menu items from the south of Italy will be found in the Tuscan Restaurant, as previous Celebrity travelers had found in the Tuscan Grille. Choose the Cosmopolitan Restaurant and your menu will feature not only the standard fare, but new American with global influences. And a fourth choice of main dining rooms will find you seated at the Cyprus Restaurant, a nod to Celebrity’s Greek heritage. Not only will there be the growingly popular Greek and Mediterranean menu choices, but for a part of her sailing schedule, the Edge will sail the Mediterranean and stop at the Greek Isles. Cruisers will be able to make the choice between flexible dining or set dining, and when choosing set dining, each of the four featured main dining options will be available and can be changed nightly depending on the whim of the diners! But there will also be seven specialty restaurants that will enhance the dining experience even more by their themes. The Fine Cut Steakhouse will offer steak and seafood, while Le Grand Bistro will enhance the French experience. TableMations will feature Le Petit Chef, an

animated character who will be a part of your meal preparation. Raw on Five will be a raw oyster bar, with other seafood offerings as well. Dinner on the Edge will feature locally acquired ingredients for their daily offerings, and the Eden Restaurant and the Rooftop Garden Grill round out the specialty choices. Four alternative venues will add to the dilemma of hungry guests, as they can choose from the Oceanview Café, the Mast Grill, the Eden Café and the Grand Plaza Café. And if this is not enough, passengers can also plan to visit the 12 bars and lounges found throughout the vessel – what a way to celebrate Celebrity’s new Edge!

Sisters take AMA Waterways River CruiseAnn Vaida and her sister made a recent decision to take a river cruise – a decision that was made easy thanks to the skills of Melanie Kavetski from the Scranton office. Together they chose a trip on AMA Waterways Melodies of the Danube , and the Dunmore duo had the trip of a lifetime. The intimate atmosphere and smaller size of a river vessel let them stop at five different ports of call while making friends with so many people on board. The accommodations, crew and food were all fabulous – the sisters agreed it was a great way to travel!
