WorkshopSilo City Photography Workshopwith Mark Maio August 1 - 4, 2019 Buffalo, New YorkThis is the only workshop scheduled for the year. For a review of the Silo City photography workshop experience, check out Luminous Landscape’s article by Kevin Raber. To read the article, click here. Join Mark Maio for rare access inside and around six acres of historic Buffalo grain elevators. For more information about the workshop click here.

This project – 16 years in the making – shows us a now-vanished way of life. How does one empty a 600-foot ship filled with grain? One shovel-full at a time; at least they did it this way for generations. Mark Maio photographed the last of these hardworking people and their way of life.

While traveling through New England in October, I couldn’t resist a trip to Cambridge, Massachusetts. Cambridge is home to Harvard University and M.I.T. but my goal was to photograph The Stata Center on the M.I.T. campus. The building, also known as Building 32, was designed by Frank Gehry and opened in 2004.

“As one who naturally gravitates, resonates, and appreciates the art of architecture, I suppose one could said that these images represent how I perceive the man-made world around me.”

Part of the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum’s Contemporary Voices series, Echoes pairs Whaley’s carefully constructed and composed photos with O’Keeffe’s meticulous creations, drawing sharp attention to creative process.

A new portfolio of the work, Botanical Studies, is available to view online.

Jo Whaley’s studio still life photographs bring us images that harken back to the days when insect collections were a form of entertainment as well as a way of exploring the world. She creates these detailed constructions in order to photograph them.

We always enjoy the opportunity to look at new work. In fact, about half of what we’ve published in LensWork and LensWork Extended comes from submissions that were originally unsolicited, that is to say, from readers and subscribers like you. We love giving exposure to photographers who are doing good work but are not plugged-in to the publicity machines that galleries and traditional publishers provide!

Our submission guidelines are available in the link below. Please review these submission guidelines and then feel free to send in your work for consideration.

Obviously, we can’t publish everything that is submitted, but we also can’t publish work that isn’t ever submitted! The best way to start is to send in the work and let us take a look. Thanks!
