Student Leaders Over the last two weeks we have had presentations, interviews, voting and finally we have our school leaders. These students will have their formal presentations next week on parade, that will be followed by a morning tea to share with their parents. I would like to congratulate all of the applicants as well as the successful recipients. We need your help Within the next few weeks we will be holding our first P and C meeting of the year. They will be held after school and should run for approximately 1 hour. We need a strong P and C to move our school forward, to offer our students the best start to their educational journey and to provide a voice for our community. Currently we only have 3 active P and C representative and they do an incredible job, however they are looking to have a stronger voice from the school and the community and we need your help. Welcome back BBQ A huge thank you to all the families who came along to support and enjoy our staff and families afternoon. The more you can come and talk to your child’s teacher and build an understanding of what they are learning now, as well as what they are learning next, the better the results and educational gains will be for your child. Our future cale barons and baronesses.
Year 9/10 Ag Studies- term 1, 2017 Last Tuesday our Ag students travelled into Gympie to develop an understanding of the cattle sales industry and the cost expansion between the sale yards and the retail at a major meat franchise and a local butcher. Our students had a wonderful day out trudging through the sale yards, trying to miss the soggy messes on the ground, Bridgett with blue sparkly shoes was very cautious where she put her feet. The object of the day was to get an idea about the amount of calves and steers yarded and the prices they sold for on the day. This was a huge eye opener for these students as none had been to a sale before, or understood what an auction was like.

Principal’s Report Continued..
Once all calves were sold and the figures collected the students will now be graphing the sale prices for a few months to see the trends in the market. Many cattle men spoke to the students and answered their questions. Students also visited Woolworths and McIntosh Meats on the south side of Gympie to compare prices of beef cuts, freshness and availability. The staff at both places were very helpful and were pleased that the students got to visit and understand firsthand how the meat process works and the costs to the consumer. Once all figures are recorded and analysed the students will work out the % comparisons for the farmer, butcher and consumer.
Included in our excursion was a visit to the Regional Training Centre in Gympie who are the RTO facilitating our Cert 2 courses. The students got to see first-hand the machinery, layout of the workshop and tools.
The 2017 AG Students had a great information gathering excursion, they were a pleasure to escort. Their manners and behaviour were impeccable, a very proud teacher indeed. Miss Watts.
Curriculum at home One of the more challenging areas of comprehension, and the one area that across our school we fall down in, is the ability to ‘infer’ what is being stated in a story. Essentially inferring is the ability to read between the lines. To infer a student needs to use both the clues that have been developed in a story and their prior knowledge to interpret what the author is trying to say. This is important as students will develop a deeper understanding of the text when they can read between the lines to draw conclusions by using their prior knowledge. As they read their understanding will develop and new information is learnt and adjustments to their thinking will be revised.

Laying Down the Tracks is a pilot program funded by the Central Queensland, Wide Bay, Sunshine Coast PHN. This 10 week program is specifically designed to assist developmentally vulnerable children, their families and carers in Gympie and the surrounding area. The program is available free of charge for children aged 3-5years who have been assessed as having signs of one or more developmental vulnerabilities in the following domains from the Australian Early Development Census: • Physical Health and Wellbeing • Social Competence Emotional Maturity • Language and Cognitive Skills • Communication and General Knowledge
Laying Down the Tracks utilises Psychologists, Speech Pathologists and Occupational Therapists skilled and experienced in pediatric and developmental service provision. The program is designed to provide an early intervention, high intensity, trans-discipline approach to assist pre-school children to make a successful transition to the school environment while involving primary care givers to generate long term health and well-being benefits in the home and community. How do I refer for Laying Down the Tracks? GPs, Pediatricians and other health professionals may refer children to the program by completing the Laying Down the Tracks referral checklist and sending it to the program manager via one of the referral methods below. Child Care and Kindergarten Directors may also make a referral but should ensure the child is reviewed by their GP. As a pilot program, Laying Down the Tracks can support a limited number of children. Once a referral is received, it will be assessed to determine eligibility for program participation. The referrer will be kept informed of the referral progress at all times.
