Overall, the survey suggested that there is a general trend of APS being a supportive community for students, staff and parents. The main concern identified by students, parents and staff was the standard of behaviour and behaviour management processes,

particularly the consistency across the school.

Our school has gone some way toward addressing these concerns throughout this year. We have updated the Whole School Behaviour Guidelines, which were endorsed our School Board last term. These guidelines are currently being implemented across the school and will be mandated from the commencement of the 2017 school year. Staff and students are currently contributing to a Behaviour Matrix which will identify specific behaviours to be explicitly taught (fortnightly) and reinforced across the school from next

year. This matrix will be shared with the community once it is completed.

REMEMBRANCE DAYREMEMBRANCE DAY

Remembrance Day (11 November) marks the anniversary of the armistice which ended the First World War (1914–18). Each year Australians observe one minute silence at 11 am on 11 November, in

memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts.

On Friday, 11 November, selected Year 5 students will attend Woodlake Amphitheatre to lay a wreath on behalf of the Aveley PS community at the Remembrance Day Service.

Our students at school will observe the one minute silence at 11am.

FUTURE PLANNING FOR FUTURE PLANNING FOR OUR SCHOOLOUR SCHOOL

Members of the school community are asked to advise us, as soon as practical, of students leaving or joining our school. If you are aware of new families moving into our

area, please encourage them to enrol their children as soon as possible.

CLASS PLACEMENTS 2017CLASS PLACEMENTS 2017

PROCEDURES FOR FORMING CLASSES

In an attempt to equitably distribute students, staff consider the following criteria. The identified criteria for placement include:

Ability level.

Leadership skills.

Behaviour.

Ability to work independently.

Special needs.

Staff are asked to, where possible (keep in mind the structure and size of our school):

Separate incompatible students.

Form equal numbers of girls and boys (depends on ratios, etc).

Have a balance (abilities, independent workers etc) of students in each room.

Draft lists are then presented to Administration for final checks.

Staff will be working on student placement for 2017 classes toward the end of this term. If, for educational reasons, you have a request for the placement of your child in a specific class next year, please email the school on [email protected] Please note that mentioning something to teachers in conversation is not a request. An email or written request by the due date will be considered. Teacher placements are not

finalized until the end of the school year.

Requests need to be received by 3pm, Friday 11 November 2016.

PROGRESSING STUDENTS’ ACCESS TO ICTPROGRESSING STUDENTS’ ACCESS TO ICT

We would like to take the opportunity to inform families that several classes in our school are integrating the use of Google

Classrooms into their everyday teaching and learning program. This cloud based application allows for ongoing access both at

school and home. To allow students access to this technology, all students have a personal school based email account. This

address is the student’s name with the following extension: [email protected]. Passwords will

vary. Please ask your child to share this with you. Teachers are able to access these accounts at any time.

We need families to be involved with all their child’s learning with regard to cybersafety and technology. Further information in

the way of a letter to families will be forwarded home next week. Please take the opportunity to talk to your child’s classroom

teacher if you require any further clarification at this point in time.

PEAC (PRIMARY EXTENSPEAC (PRIMARY EXTENSION & CHALLENGE)ION & CHALLENGE)

Further to our Year 4 students sitting the PEAC Assessment earlier in the year, the results of this state-wide testing were

received this week. Congratulations to the three students whose results allowed them to be invited to participate in a number

of academic extension opportunities in 2017 and 2018. Successful students will receive a letter indicating their success early

next week. If families would like any more information about the test or your child’s results, please contact Mr Marchant.

YEAR 6 CAMPYEAR 6 CAMP

What an action packed way to start Term 4. The year 6’s ventured off on School camp in week one, resulting in some very tired

and weary students and Teachers. It was fantastic to see the Senior students in a setting that challenged them physically,

mentally and emotionally. Miss Davis and I were so pleased to see all the students give every challenge their best, and work

cooperatively to achieve. I am very thankful to be a part of memories that will last forever and wish our graduating year 6

students all the very best.

FROM THE ARTROOM: SIFROM THE ARTROOM: SIX NOONGAR SEASONS PROJECTX NOONGAR SEASONS PROJECT

This Monday, 31 October we are very privileged to have well known Nyoongar artist Sharyn Egan visiting Aveley PS to work

with the Year 4-6 students on an Art Project funded by PALS. Sharyn will be working with the students on the first phase of our

Indigenous Bush Food Garden located behind T3, T4 & T5 and in front of the Kitchen Garden. Sharyn will work with students

to design an artwork based on the six Noongar seasons.

About the Artist

Sharyn Egan is a Nyoongar woman who was born in Subiaco in 1957. At the age of three years

she was taken from her family and incarcerated at the New Norcia Mission until she was 13 years

old. She never again saw her parents. Her works of oils, natural ochres, resins and acrylics on

canvas as well as natural fibre woven sculptures is informed by this experience and comments

upon the associated trauma, emotions and a deep sense of loss and displacement amongst

Aboriginal people. Sharyn is a weaver, sculptor & painter and her artwork is represented in major

collections including the Berndt Museum Collection.

CHRISTMAS CHOIR CHRISTMAS CHOIR

Wow! Can you believe it is time to talk Christmas Carols choir again? I am excited to

announce the school’s participation in this year’s Ellenbrook Christmas Pageant Stage

Program on Saturday, 3 December. This will be an excellent showcase for our school in

front of a huge crowd, which is expected to have at least 4000 attendees based on

previous years. We have a strong history of involvement in community events, so I can't wait to see our wonderful choir in

action yet again. Unfortunately we won’t be involved in the Aveley Carols on December 10 this year as I am not available on

that date.

Rehearsals for interested Year 2 - 6 children only will commence on Thursday, 3 November at 8am in the Music Room. This

will continue each Thursday morning right up until the event. Our exact stage time is not determined as of yet, but will be in the

late afternoon and into the evening, so please ensure you are available on this date.

Please email me if you have any further questions [email protected]

Thank you for your support,

Chris Spencer

Music Specialist

Hello parents, carers and friends, thank you for your support.

The Sports Carnival was a great day for everyone and a successful one for your P&C. Thank you for your support in

purchasing lunches that were enjoyed by all. We had an Information Booth so that you could see what your P&C is doing for

the school and how you can be involved. We also sold raffle tickets for some sporty type prizes and our congratulations to the

winners. Thank you to all of the volunteers on the day, it wouldn’t have worked without you.

We have been very busy organising the Halloween Disco for tonight and it should be a fantastic

night. Bop Til You Drop is to provide the music and entertainment again, they have done a great

job at keeping the children involved at our last two discos and we know they will do the same for

us again. All tickets were sent back home so please make sure your child brings the ticket with

them on the night. This will gain entry and also be used for the door prizes. We will be selling lolly

bags and drinks (water/juice boxes) for $1 each and there are some Gluten Free lollies available.

If you missed out on tickets, we can accept payment on the night.

Yes, the Entertainment Books are still available for purchase. The book has discounts and offers valid until July 2017 so it is

still good value! Get your copy via this link: https://www.entertainmentbook.com.au/orderbooks/91183e , find it on the Aveley

P&C facebook page or search for the Aveley Primary School selling page at the Entertainment Book website. There is also a

display in the school office for a sample book and order forms.

Don’t forget that school banking continues happens every Tuesday morning in the undercover area.

If you have any feedback, fundraising ideas or you would like to help the P&C we would love to hear from you. Our next

meeting will be held at the school on Monday, 14 November and everyone is welcome to attend.

To contact the P&C or to keep up with what we are doing you can email us at [email protected], find our facebook

page, see our news in the newsletter or approach any of our committee members. (President - Phil Bennett - 0408 207 192)

Thanks from your Aveley Primary P&C.
