NEW YORK, May ».—Produc­tion of cigarettes in the United States for domestic consumption in April was 10,696,782,123, a record high for the month and comparing with 0,293.630,590 in April, 1934, an increase of 1,403.151,533, or 15.1 per cent. Production of large cigars to­taled 373,672,734 against 345,066.731 in April last year, an increase of 28,606,003, or 8.2 per cent.

Output of manufactured tobacco during the month war 24.294,4*4 pounds, against 24,063,007 in April, 1934, an increase of 232,477 pounds, or 0.9 per cent

—Revised estimates of the 1934 cot­ton crop announced today by the Department of Agriculture place production at 9,836,000 bales of 500 pounds gross weight, compared with 13,047.000 bales for 1933. Otn-nings were 9.636.073 bales of 800 pounds each for 1984. v

The area of cotton in cultivation July 1 last year was 37,833,000 acres, compared with 40,852,000 the previ­ous year, and the area picked was 26.987.000 acres, compared with 29,-978,000,

Production of lint cotton last year was 170,9 pounds per acre, compared with 308.5 pounds the previous year.

REPORTS GAIN IN SALES NEW YORK, May 23 (A. P . ) . -

Bctram 8. Stephenson, vice presi­dent in charge of purchases of the American Radiator and Standard Sanitary Corp, reports that the pur­chases of the companies affiliated with his corporation have been about 45 per cent ahead of 1934 for the first quarter of this year.
