Ad Club Speaker
iss U.S. Riots, Disasters
Dire predictions for 1969, including more riots, inflation, a falling stock market and earthquakes were voiced Tuesday by author Taylor Caldwell of Amherst.
Miss Caldwell, who in private life is Mrs. Marcus Reback, spoke at a Greater Buffalo Advertising Club luncheon in Hotel Statler Hilton.
Miss Caldwell, whose books have been translated into 37 latu guages, blamed most of the ills of the country on government and lust for political power. Officials Hit
"Your government is your enemy," she said. "Our image all over the work! stinks. This is not Just because of the war in Vietnam, but because of our weakness."
Predicting greater and more violent strikes for the coming year. Miss Caldwell said "workers are striking because of inflation which is caused by the government raising taxes to hire more bureaucrats and c r e a t e tight money."
Miss Caldwell said riots and school and campus dissensions were incited by American Communists and that if it is necessary to have martial law, taxes and oppression would be greatly increased.
She predicted that the middle class in this country eventually will be wiped out and the time will come when there will be only the rich and slaves. Look at Rome
"This process took 400 years in Rome, but we have accelerated it here," she related. "It is the fault of the people for not dissenting. Dissent is left to hippies and yippies."
Referring to China's development of the nuclear bomb, Miss Caldwell spoke of confrontation between China and Japan and stated that the United States would suffer from fall-out from Chinese bombs.
Five new directors were elected. They are Alveno Battistoni, Vito Caruso, Herman Glaser, John Schiedo and Maurice Lutwack.

Courier-Express Albion Bureau HOLLEY—A Buffalo youth was
shot in the head and killed by a state police investigator early Tuesday during a stake-out at a liquor store in this Orleans County community. Four other Buffaionians were charged with third-degree burglary.
The dead youth, Bruce (Duck) Clark, 19, of 192 Shumway St., was shot by Senior Investigator Donald L. Smith When he attempted to avoid arrest.
State troopers said Smith called twice for Clark to stop running before firing two rounds from his .38 revolver. One shot missed. Troopers said a straight razor was lying beside the victim. Arrested in Store
Arrested inside the State Street Liquor Store in Route 31, a block east of the village's main business square, were:
James Woodard, 22, of 132 Monticello St.
Donald Pointer, 22, of 447 Riley St.
Troopers said the other two suspects were in an auto parked nearby. They are:
James Fuller, 22, of 109 French St.
Janice Ware, 20, of 300 High St. Police Stake Out
The store had been staked out by troopers and Holley police nightly since last Wednesday when the Buffalo Police Narcotics Squad informed authorities here that a burglary attempt would be made. Last August, $3,000 in cash and liquor was taken from the store.
State Police said they found the three young men piling up cases of liquor in the store
| about 1:15 a.m., presumably for loading in the parked auto.
Smith said Clark threw a case of liquor at him and the two grappled in the dark before Clark began running. Twice inside the store, Smith said, Clark
! lunged at him but because of! the dark, no sharp instrument*
i was seen. Arrest Record
Buffalo police said Clark had • been arrested last September on: a narcotics charge.
Dr. Ruth Barrett, an Orleans County coroner, pronounced the youth dead at the scene.
Fuller and the girl asked for preliminary hearings when they appeared before Town of Murray Justice Clement F. Quarantello. The hearing date was set for 7 p.m.. Feb. 4.
Woodard and Pointer waived their hearing rights and their cases will go directly to the grand jury.
All four were sent to the Orleans County Jail in Albion when unable to post $1,000 bail each.

NIAGARA FALLS, Ont.—Pilot Gilbert Ness, fiis wife and their 2%-year-old son walked away with only minor injuries after their rented single - engine plane struck a wood fence and piled into a snowbank T u e s d a y at a private airfield on Montrose Road here.
Ness, 36, a student flier from Jordan, Ont., suffered minor face injuries. Mrs. Delores Ness and her son, Travis, escaped unhurt.
Ness rented t h e light aircraft f r o m the St. Catharines Flying Club, which operates out of the Niagara District Airport near St. Catharines. Icy Runway
Ness, who has about 75 hours flying time, was landing at the Niagara Air Service field, which has a sod-and-gravel runway. But it was ice-covered Tuesday and the plane's braices failed to hold.
The pilot tried to take off again. The aircraft clipped the fence at the end of the field, skidded across a roadway and plunged into the snowbank. Ontario Provincial Police estimated damage to the plane at $12,000.
Three Plead No Contest At SLA Hearing The operators of three places
where alcoholic beverages are served pleaded no contest Tuesday to charges filed by the State Liquor Authority, and a fourth pleaded innocent.
An innocent plea was entered on the behalf of the Century Club of Niagara Falls. Inc., 6611 Buffalo Ave., which had been charged with sales to non-members.
No-contest pleas, to charges of serving minors, were entered by: C h e s t e r F. Mankowski, licensee at the Bailo Grill, 1298 Bailey Ave.; Lester F. Chretien, licensee at Caffrey's Inn, 2410 Genesee St., Cheektowaga, and D a k e ' s Restaurant, 3 Park Square, Franklinville.
Deputy Commissioner J. Vincent Serve, who accepted the pleas, said a hearing will be scheduled for the Century Club. The no-contest pleas will be sent to the SLA's full board of commissioners in New York for determination of penalties, if any.

Eden Woman OKs $23,000 Settlement Mrs. Catherine Balone of 4263
N. Boston Road, Eden, accepted $23,000 Tuesday to settle her Supreme Court lawsuit over injuries suffered in an auto accident.
She was a passenger in an auto driven by Phillip Barone of 3226 Mill Road, Eden, that collided with a vehicle operated by Clarence C. Prawel of Boston State Road, Hamburg. The accident occurred in Camp Road, Town of Hamburg, Dec. 12, 1962.
