Project Hope is a social welfare

programme founded by China Youth

Development Foundation. Its aim is to

raise money to help those children in

poor areas who have to leave school

early only because their families

cannot afford to keep them at school.

If you decided to sponsor a child, how

would you do it? The expressions

A: I think we should sponsor a child

B: Why would we support that project?

A: Because I think we should share the

A: Well, we’re lucky because we go to

school. But there are kids in poor

areas that can’t afford to go to school.

If we raise money, we can help some of

those kids to go to school.

B: That sounds like a great idea. But

how would we raise the money?

C: Well, what about holding a movie

night?

B: So, how would we organize that?

C: First, we choose a film. Then we

decide on a night. Next we advertise it

by putting posters around the school.

B: But how would we make money?

A: Well, we would ask for a donation

at the door.

B: So people pay what they can afford?

A: That’s right.

C: Great! Let’s do it.
