THE SOLUTION | Employ Silent Passenger to Reduce Expenses and Increase Workforce ProductivityAfter researching and comparing many choices, Woodbridge Township selected Vehicle Tracking Solutions. VTS carefully examined the needs and goals of the Township and worked with them to form an effective strategy. Woodbridge adopted a state-of-the-art vehicle tracking system with the installation of SP Routing and 95 GPS units on selected vehicles in the DPW fleet. Additionally, a system of GEO fencing was put in place to alert the Township of vehicle travel outside of approved areas. Monitoring also added the ability to track unauthorized after-hours vehicle use with reporting via email or text message.

THE RESULTS | A More Efficiently-run Township and Savings for TaxpayersThrough the use of VTS Silent Passenger technology, Woodbridge Township is better able to control costly practices such as excessive idling times, unauthorized vehicle use and unnecessary starts and stops, yielding a 20% reduction in fuel consumption. Specific areas of improvement include the Township’s garbage collection services which have seen remarkable savings and service enhancements in both solid waste and recycling routes. Sanitation vehicles are no longer overlapping routes, reducing not only the use of fuel but also workers’ hours and noise pollution. The added manageability has enabled the replacement of 26 outdated, rear-loaded trucks running 4 days a week with 14 vehicles accomplishing the same task in 2 days–saving taxpayers more than $4 million per year.
