It hasproduced great men and women who are wellplaced in different walks of life.I have been apart of the institution for the last 31 years of mycareer as a Professor of Chemistry and in thelast two years as head of the institution. Lookingback, I feel that I have done my duties andresponsibilities to the best of my ability. I stepdown with a deep sense of satisfaction andfulfillment. This academic year was marked withvarious events and success stories. Renovationworks of the college and hostel buildingsinitiated in the previous year continued with fullvigour in this year also. All these works werefunded by our management. Along with theseworks, two rain water harvesting tanks, each ofone lakh liter capacity were built using GDA OFUGC 12th plan. With these, educationalambience of the institution has improved greatlyto cater to the curricular experience of thestudents in various disciplines.

Govindan, HOD ofChemistry KMMGWC, Kannur. Technicalsessions were handled by Dr.P. Raveendran(University of Calicut), Dr. N.K. Renuka (Universityof Calicut) and Dr.A.Sujith (NIT Calicut).

students of Commerce department on 27th and28th of September 2014. The camp wasinaugurated by Dr.Joselette Mathew, Principal,Nirmalagiri College, Kuthuparamba who made alecture on “ Environment and Ecology”. A sessionon 'Career Guidance and Options for HigherEducation' was organized with Mr. MidhunKrishna, DMS Palayad, Mr.Alex Abraham,Deloitte, Bangalore and Aiswarya Raveendran,Federal bank, Payyannur (Former student of ourdepartment) as resource persons who discussedopportunities under MBA, CA, Banking Careeretc. Sessions on Cyber Law was also held bySri.M.K.Hariprasad, Sub Inspector of Police, KAP,Mangattuparamba leading the discussions. Anexhaustive session on stock market operationswas held by Mr.Lijin Narayan, Relations managerof Sharekhan Ltd, an expert on the subject.

The department launched an extensionactivity based on conservation of energy.As a partof our social responsibility an awarenessprogramme on energy conservation wasconducted in a selected ward of MattanurMunicipality. To equip the students for this activitya two day residential camp had been conducted atour college and eminent persons from KSSP,KSEB and ANERT handled various classes. As afirst phase of our programme 71 students of IVand VI Semester visited 272 houses in Nelluni,Ward-26 of Mattanur municipality regularly andawareness classes were given. A data collectionof all electrical equipments in those houses werealso carried out to audit the electrical energy.

A poster presentation on energy conservationwas organized by spectrum club. The club alsoconducted interdepartmental science quiz inconnection with National science daycelebrations.

Physics and chemistry departmentsjointly organized a felicitation on 30-1-15 to formerfaculty of this institution Dr. T MukundanThelakkat, Professor, University of Beyreuth. Hedelivered a talk on research innovations inphysical sciences. The Physics Association wasformally inaugurated by Sri. Dineshan, Asst.Professor, Govt. Brennen College on 14-2-2015and was followed by a talk on cosmology.

The Department of Botany to propagatethe message of living close to nature initiatedpopularization of Organic Farming in the campusduring this academic year and cultivated differentvegetables in the campus by April 2015. As part ofthe programme, the department provided B.Sc.Plant Science students opportunity to interact withleading scientists in the field including a seniorfaculty of Indian Council of Forestry Research andEducation. Career guidance and counseling cellorganized various programmes during thisacademic year. Orientation programme on higherstudies options was conducted for all disciplinesfrom 27-6-2014 to 28-9-2014 inviting eminentresource persons. A motivation and personalitydevelopment class was conducted for VIsemester students on 3-2-2015.The resourceperson was Sri Jayapalan, International Jayceestrainer. Group counseling programme for the IVsemester students was conducted from 23-2-2015 t0 27-02-2015. Personal counseling wasgiven for required students by psychologist Dr.Girish Nambiar. The Internal Quality Assurance Cell(IQAC), a post accreditation quality sustenancemeasure has become a part of the institution fromthe year 2009 onwards. The IQAC works towardsthe realization of the goals of qualityenhancement and academic excellence byundertaking various activities beneficial for thestaff and students. A one day 'E-contentAwareness Programme' conducted byEducational Multimedia Research Centre(EMMRC), Calicut University was a major activityorganized by IQAC for the faculty improvement ofthe institution. An Orientation programme for FirstSemester students, Online Examination for thethird semester students, physical training for girlstudents, Financial Literacy programme, andHealth Awareness programme are other activitiesorganized by IQAC this academic year. In order toensure student participation in qualityimprovement, regular student feedback onfaculty, department, institution and curriculum isundertaken by IQAC every academic year. DrK.B. As part of this UGC sponsoredprogramme, a series of coaching classes for entryin services was conducted on Saturdays. Ms.Manjeri of Zoology Department is the Coordinatorof the programme.

Tutorial System

Tutorial system plays significant role toimprove the self confidence of the students. Ithelped to understand the problems of thestudents and help maintain a healthy teacher-student-parent relationship. Ms. Usha K K ofMathematics Department is the Convenor of theTutorial system.

SSP launched in the year 2013-14intended to help the poor students continued thisyear also. Under this programme financial aid wasgiven to a family for the construction of a house.Free food, Hostel fees and Examination fees fordeserving students were given this year. Dr.Radhamani is the Coordinator of SSP.
