A special shout out to Mari Davenport and all those who helped with the teacher luncheon on February 3rd. We all appreciated the opportunity to eat together as a staff. Ash Wednesday and the season of Lent is upon us. I was looking for an appropriate meditation for today and found it in the Daily Reflections for Lent: Not by Bread Alone 2016. Do we look at Ash Wednesday as a day to focus on our short- comings, or as a day that offers us the promise of second chances? I found that to be a very interesting thought. Dur- ing this Lenten season, are we willing to return to God with our whole heart? It reminded me of Fr. Jims homily today, about what we give up, and are we actually giving up some- thing meaningful. February marks our mid-winter break. This year, school will be closed on Friday, February 12th, and classes will resume on Wednesday, February 17th. Please enjoy the time off. Have a wonderful week everyone. 2015-2016 First Quarter School Budget Report I am pleased to finally be able to share our first quarter (July-September) school budget figures. Thank you to all families who consistently keep current with their tuition payments! At this point, our revenue exceeds the budg-et year to date projections. This is due to some families making one annual tuition payment. Additionally, ex-penses at the end of September were under budget by $33,476.00. We will continue to monitor our spending closely as the year progresses.

Employer Matched Volunteer Hours Employer- Matched Volunteer Hours = money for the school! Did you know that your employer may match your volunteer hours with a financial donation to St. Brendan School? For example, Mi-crosoft will match their employees' volunteer time during the calen-dar year with $25 per hour. Microsoft employees can go to http://give to learn more about this program. It's a great easy to make the most of your gift of time to the school. Check with your employer and see if they will match your volunteer hours!

Coming home today!

PRAYER FOR THE YEAR OF MERCY

Lord Jesus Christ,

you have taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father, and have told us that whoever sees you sees Him.

Show us your face and we will be saved. Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from being enslaved by

money; the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness only in created

things; made Peter weep after his betrayal,

and assured Paradise to the repentant thief. Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words that you spoke to

the Samaritan woman: “If you knew the gift of God!”

You are the visible face of the invisible Father,

of the God who manifests his power above all by forgiveness and mercy: let the Church be your visible face in the world, its Lord risen and glorified.

You willed that your ministers would also be clothed in weakness in order that they may feel compassion for those in ignorance and error:

let everyone who approaches them feel sought after, loved, and forgiven by God.

Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its anointing, so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from the Lord,

and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor,

proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed, and restore sight to the blind.

We ask this of you, Lord Jesus, through the intercession of Mary, Mother of Mercy; you who live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit for ever

and ever.

Amen.

Catholic Corner A little over a week ago St. Brendan held a parish fami-ly retreat, Soul on Fire. There were a lot of wonderful things shared, great music, and teachings by Fr. Jim. The prevailing theme was about community. Fr. Jim challenged us to "get out of our comfort zone" and "be the change you want to see." If you normally chat with friends after Mass, go find someone sitting alone or looking lost and introduce yourself. Get out of your comfort zone and spread God's Good News. As lent begins, this is a perfect time to not just give something up, but to do something extra to improve our lives, our community, and our relationship with God. Maybe that's going to confession (remember the added times Thursday mornings and Weds evenings!), performing some Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy, dedicat-ing more family time, or just inviting a stranger to cof-fee hour. February's Meditation on Mercy from the USCCB can be found here: http://www.usccb.org/beliefs-and-teachings/how-we-teach/new-evangelization/jubilee-of-mercy/meditations-on-mercy.cfm Additionally, please see the attached flyer for the Feb-ruary guessing jar.

Rice Bowl Prayer for 2016

God of all creation, We welcome you into our lives in a new way this Lent.

We are ready to serve your people, Especially our brothers and sisters who are most in

need. We are ready to live out your call to mercy.

Through our prayers, fasting and Lenten gifts, may we learn to walk as one global human family.

May we learn to listen to each other, and in so doing hear the merciful words of Christ.

Amen

Jacinta Johnson Middle School Tuition Grants for NEW 6-7-8th Grade Students Up to 50% tuition grants!

In remembrance of Jacinta Johnson, a 6th grade student in 1970 who was called home to heaven that year, we offer new 6-7-8th grade Catholic students a multi-year tuition grant based on financial need. This grant can be up to 50% of tuition for multiple years. The family would need to qualify for assis-tance. The student would need to remain in good academic and behavior standing to ensure the tuition grants remains in place through 8th grade. Please contact Mr. Bradish if interested in the middle school tuition grant.

Referral Tuition Credit - One Month Free Tuition! Current St. Brendan School families are our biggest asset in marketing our school, and for the past two years, several families took ad-vantage of referring a new K-8th family to St. Brendan. The referring family earned one child/one month of tuition credit! Refer a new K-8th grade family and receive a tuition credit of one child’s month tuition in May 2017. The new K-8 grade student(s) would need to remain at our school for one year to earn the tuition credit for the referring family. Thank you for sharing our school information with families you know who may be interested in a Catholic education.
