ST. ROBERT BELLARMINE PARISH

Stewardship Reflection

“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?’ ‘Here I am,’ I said, ‘send me!’” (Isaiah 6:8)

Every day – in little ways and in big ways – God asks, “Whom shall I send?” Whether it is some-one to take on a new ministry or just someone to open a door for an overburdened stranger, God constantly looks to see if we are willing to re-spond with the eagerness that Isaiah showed when he answered, “Here I am, send me!”

Money Matters On the weekend of February 2/3 Weekly donations: $3,964.00

Reconciliation Mini-Retreat Drop in Sunday, February 10, or Monday, February 11

Lent is just around the corner, beginning with Ash Wednesday on Febru-ary 13. Take some time out to renew yourself in the spirit of forgiveness. The adult breakout sessions at the Generations of Faith festival this week-end will be a mini-retreat, led by Amanda Roberts, with guided reflection and prayer to help you enter into this season of renewal. Come for dinner at 5:00 pm in Driscoll Hall, followed by breakout from 6:00-7:30 in the Seton Room. Or just stop by the Seton Room at 6:00 pm for the retreat.

Year of Faith 2012—2013

New this week on the parish Year of Faith website—will the real St. Valentine please stand up! Every week of every month there will be new content in one of the four main subject areas on the Year of Faith site. Valentine’s Day is Thursday of this week. Ever wonder how Christian martyrs and Hall-mark hearts & flowers get mixed up? Stop by the Saints & Heroes section to see what you can find.

Vatican II—Did You Know?: Pope John XXIIIs Opening Speech at Vatican II set the tone and the limits of Vatican II. He wanted no condemnations or new documents.

Special Collection—Ash Wednesday The collection on Ash Wednesday supports the

Church in Central and Eastern Europe and the Soli-

darity Fund for the Church in Africa. These collec-

tions help the Church spread the word of God and

train the Church leaders of tomorrow; help needy

families materially and spiritually; rebuild churches

that have fallen; and support the sisters and brothers

who have suffered for the faith. For more informa-

tion, visit www.usccb.org/nationalcollections.

St. Robert Bellarmine Women’s Group

Next Meeting: Tuesday, February 19, 7:00-8:30 pm, Seton Room Save the Date: Ladies Luncheon, Sunday, May 5, following the 11:00 am Mass

The Women’s Group is open to all women in the parish 18 years or older. We ordinarily meet on the third Tuesday of the month. It is meant to be a stress free, laid back, social and charitable group. We have also recently started up a Prayer Shawl Ministry and a regular knitting group is coming together. Sometimes we just sit and talk. The activities that we share are secondary to our mission to support one another as Catholic women. As we gather, we are mindful of Christ’s presence in our lives and we celebrate this common bond by sharing our time and our talents with one another. For more information, please contact Jean Tornatore at [email protected].

ST. ROBERT BELLARMINE PARISH

Parish Day of Service

Saturday, March 2

Sign Up Begins This Weekend, February 9/10!

You may recall that we did a parish

wide service day during the year of

our 50th anniversary as a parish.

This year—within the Year of Faith—

we take as our jumping off point the

50th anniversary of Vatican II. We

have also chosen the season of Lent

to join together in charity and ser-

vice.

There are lots of projects to choose

from, both onsite at St. Robert’s and

out in the local community. Most

events take only a couple hours of

your time or less. And there are op-

tions for all ages and abilities. To

conclude the day, we will gather at

the 4:00 pm Mass, followed by sup-

per—even if you cannot make it to

service during the day, please join us

for Mass and hospitality. It’s not

about just one day—it’s about the

ways we serve every day!

Sign up begins this weekend. Check

out the bulletin board in the Gather-

ing Space for information and sign

up. Or grab a handout at church or on

the parish website. Questions? Con-

tact Karen Bailey at kbai-

[email protected] or 978-475-

1049.

Lenten Gospel Giving Begins Next Weekend

The traditional foundation for Lenten practice rests on three sup-ports: PRAYER–FASTING–ALMSGIVING. To assist families in the third of these supports, we again participate in LENTEN GOSPEL GIVING. Each week all members of the parish are asked to bring the item with them to Mass. Each item is chosen to reflect the read-ings of the day and the gifts will be donated to various needy causes. Please read the list below for each week's Scripture and its item. For your convenience, the complete list is printed this Sunday. Moving forward there will be a reminder in the bulletin each week for the week we are in and the one coming up.

FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

SCRIPTURE READINGS FOR NEXT WEEK—FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT

A reading from the Book of Deuteronomy 26:4-10

Moses spoke to the people, saying: “The priest shall receive the basket from you and shall set it in front of the

altar of the LORD, your God. Then you shall declare before the Lord, your God, ‘My father was a wandering

Aramean who went down to Egypt with a small household and lived there as an alien. But there he became a

nation great, strong, and numerous. When the Egyptians maltreated and oppressed us, imposing hard labor

upon us, we cried to the LORD, the God of our fathers, and he heard our cry and saw our affliction, our toil,

and our oppression. He brought us out of Egypt with his strong hand and outstretched arm, with terrifying

power, with signs and wonders; and bringing us into this country, he gave us this land flowing with milk and

honey. Therefore, I have now brought you the firstfruits of the products of the soil which you, O LORD, have

given me.’ And having set them before the Lord, your God, you shall bow down in his presence.

A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Romans 10:8-13

Brothers and sisters: What does Scripture say? The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart—that is,

the word of faith that we preach—for, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your

heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For one believes with the heart and so is justified,

and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved. For the Scripture says, No one who believes in him will be

put to shame. For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all, enriching all

who call upon him. For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

+ A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke 4:1-13

Filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the desert for forty

days, to be tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and when they were over he was hungry.

The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.” Jesus answered him,

“It is written, One does not live on bread alone.” Then he took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the

world in a single instant. The devil said to him, “I shall give to you all this power and glory; for it has been

handed over to me, and I may give it to whomever I wish. All this will be yours, if you worship me.” Jesus

said to him in reply, “It is written: You shall worship the Lord, your God, and him alone shall you serve.”

Then he led him to Jerusalem, made him stand on the parapet of the temple, and said to him, “If you are the

Son of God, throw yourself down from here, for it is written: He will command his angels concerning you, to

guard you, and: With their hands they will support you, lest you dash your foot against a stone.” Jesus said to

him in reply, “It also says, You shall not put the Lord, your God, to the test.” When the devil had finished

every temptation, he departed from him for a time.
