Pastor’s Pen……
On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” John 20:19 ESV
These are the words Jesus speaks to His disciples after His resurrection. Now that He has died on the cross He has paid the penalty for our guilt. There is no long-er a bad relationship between heaven and us. There was a debt we owed God be-cause of our sin. That debt was going to be collected by force. The penalty for our sin is death. However that debt has been erased by the work of Jesus. The war against sin and death has been won. Jesus has brought peace by His death and resur-rection.
During our celebration of the Lord’s Supper I hold up the bread and wine, which is the body and blood of Jesus Christ. I say, “Peace be with you.” You respond Amen. The body and blood of Jesus is the very body and blood that died on the cross and rose from the grave. Here is the proof; here is the evidence that we have peace with God. He has given us His Son’s own body and blood under the bread and wine. After this it is our custom to greet one another with the peace of the Lord. We are united as members of the body of Christ. We join together in this meal. We eat the same bread and wine. We receive the very body and blood of our Savior. We celebrate our common union with each other as part of Christ’s body. I encour-age you to reflect on what this means as you greet one another. This is not a time to chat about the weather or trivial matters. There is a time for that. After the service it is important to share our struggles and joys with our fellow believers. This is called the mutual consolation of the brethren. As we share the peace of the Lord with handshakes or hugs think about the price that was paid for our peace. Remember that this peace comes from God. Jesus has won our peace. Jesus is our peace.
Pastor Doellinger
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In
this world you will have tribulation. But take heart,;
I have overcome the world.
John 16:33

THE GOSPEL in SEVEN WORDS
During Lent we spent our Wednesday evening
services reflecting on a series called "The Gospel
in Seven Words." We looked at different ways of
describing what Jesus has done for us. Members
of the church were encouraged to put the Gospel
in their own seven words. We talked about how
we can share the love of Christ with unbeliev-
ers. The following are how members of our
church summarized the Gospel in their own
words:
He died on the cross for us.
Freely Forgiven, Redeemed for Life with God.
Always forever the Savior of all mankind.
Jesus gave Himself willingly & completely for
undeserving people like me.
He is still the Light of the world.
Christ died and suffered for our sins.
God's Son died that I may live.
Christ lives; therefore I live in Christ!
He died and rose for me, I am set free.
Jesus saves us all from eternal death.
Sin's debt is paid by Jesus' blood.
Jesus died so we can live eternally.
Jesus never leaves me alone-ever.
We will be with you in paradise.
God is my strength when I am weak.
Jesus loves me. I am loved. Amen.
He bowed his head and died for me.
He died and rose for me, yippee.
Jesus died and rose so we can live.

cash to take up to the Dickinson County Upper Des Moines Food
Pantry in Spirit Lake!!
Thanks also for the soap donations and cash for Lutheran World
Relief. The quilts will be boxed up and put on the truck May 5th. The
cash donations will be used to help ship the quilts to the places they
are needed all over the world. Donations for quilting supplies are
much appreciated as well. Bless you all!!!
If you have a prayer request, you may call or notify by email any
person on this list. That person should then call the first person on
the list to get the chain started. You may either call or email the
prayer information. Our purpose is to pray for the need as soon as
we are notified. This will be kept confidential and only included in
public prayers of the church if requested. It is not necessary to give
names if you prefer not to. We hope this prayer chain not only en-
hances the ministry of our congregation, but also helps you to grow

Use Your Talent to God’s Glory
Have you heard about the school for animals that was set up in the forest? All
the animals decided it was time to set some criteria for who should be allowed
to live in the forest, so a number of them came up with a curriculum that includ-
ed tree climbing, swimming, flying, and running. They decided all animals must
pass each of these classes in order to graduate.
Well, the first class was in tree climbing, which of course the squirrels passed
with flying colors. The fleet-footed deer, however, flunked the course. When it
came to running, the deer got straight A’s, but the geese kept falling over front-
wards. Now, in flying, the bald eagle flew circles around the squirrels, who kept
falling off the branches onto the ground below.
The point, of course, is clear. God has given each part of his creation a talent
according to their ability and that includes humans, as well. We are the ones
who have decided that to be talented means that we excel in one of three or
four areas and we are willing to pay enormous salaries to those who meet our
criteria.
God’s idea of talents, however, is based on their usefulness to others, not on
the number of talents, nor how artistic they are. Not only will we be held ac-
countable for using the talent we have been given, but as importantly, whether
we have used it in God’s kingdom. 4

STEWARDSHIP FROM LCMS WEBSITE
Bible Study after Worship………..After we finish our study of Rev. Dr. Harrison’s book, “Christ
Have Mercy”, we’ll start a study on 1st Corinthians. Make plans to attend!!
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
Colossians 3: 16
St. Paul teaches, “Let the one who is taught the word share all good things with the one who teaches” (Galatians 6:6).
And again, he says, “Do you not know that those who are employed in the temple service get their food from the temple, and
those who serve at the altar share in the sacrificial offerings? In the same way, the Lord commanded that those who proclaim
the gospel should get their living by the gospel” (1 Corinthians 9:13–14).
In other words, ministers of the gospel are supported by the offerings of those who are served by them. And this is how the
Church lives even now. It is standard practice.
But this deserves closer examination. For it instructs us not just that we are to give but also what we are to give. And it does
so with four little words: “In the same way …”
St. Paul is building his case for supporting the preachers of the Gospel with the sacrificial giving of individual members on the
example of the Old Testament people who supported the Levites with their offerings and sacrifices.
We’re to support the Gospel ministry “in the same way.” But how did the Old Testament people support the Levites?
Moses records this: “You shall tithe all the yield of your seed that comes from the field year by year. And before the Lord your
God, in the place that he will choose, to make his name dwell there, you shall eat the tithe of your grain, of your wine, and of
your oil, and the firstborn of your herd and flock, that you may learn to fear the Lord your God always” (Deuteronomy 14:22–
23).
The Levites were supported by the tithe, 10 percent of all the yearly yield of that which was harvested.
Does that seem like a lot? Does it surprise you that St. Paul instructs us that we are to support the New Testament Gospel
ministry “in the same way?”
If it does, ask yourself: is the Church’s job in the New Testament bigger or smaller than the Levites’ job in the Old Testament?
Back then there was one Temple, and the ministry was almost exclusively located in one nation among the descendants of
Abraham.
Jesus calls us to teach and baptize all nations (Matt. 28). And there are churches and ministries all around the world. How
could we support this new Gospel ministry with anything less than the Israelites supported the Old Testament ministry?
Of course, we are free to give more, for we have received more than those in the Old Testament. We have received the fullness
of God’s revelation, the fullness of His salvation, the fulfillment of everything that God promised to do.
For we have received Christ, God’s own Son, in the flesh, who took upon himself our sins and in exchange gave us his right-
eousness. The Father claimed us as his own in Holy Baptism.
He gathers us together in the place where his name dwells to feast on the first fruits of the resurrection, the risen and living
body and blood of his Son, our Lord, Jesus. He reminds us that we are His, that all things are ours because we belong to Him.
He blesses us here in time with physical and spiritual gifts.
In the same way, and in response to his fatherly divine goodness and mercy, we gladly give to those who proclaim to us “the
excellencies of him who called us out of darkness and into his marvelous light.”
For once we were not a people, but now we are God’s people; once we had not received mercy, but now we have indeed (1 Pe-
ter 2:9–10).

Why go to Church? A church goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense
to go to church every Sunday. “I’ve gone for 30 years now,” he wrote, “and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons, but for the life of me, I can’t remember a single one of
them. So, I think I’m wasting my time and the priests are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all.” This started a real controversy in the Letters to the Editor column.
Much to the delight of the editor, it went on for weeks, until someone wrote this clincher: “I’ve been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But, for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But I do know
this: They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for
nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!
