How to formulate with Diacid 1550:

1.  Diacid 1550 is easiest to formulate with when added into the oil phase of a semi-synthetic or soluble oil.

2.  From there, the water soluble components and bases can be added later, effectively neutralizing Diacid 1550 and allowing it to function.

3.  Once the effects of Diacid 1550 in a particular system are realized, the formulator can adjust the percentage to optimize the benefits.

Diacid 1550 is oil-soluble or lipophilic. However when neutralized with an appropriate base (sodium or potassium hydroxide or an alkanolamine such as TEA), the resulting salt becomes water soluble.

Key Trend: •  Non-ionic emulsifiers with mid-level

HLB values (around 12 HLB) will lead to higher foam or “more stabilized” foam •  EXAMPLE: TEA salts of Diacid 1550

~ 12 HLB •  These will create a synergistic

effect on building foam. •  If your customer already has

foaming issues, using a TEA salt of Diacid 1550 may not be the right path forward to decrease foam.

Diacid 1550 provides superior lubrication, requiring less force than isostearic acid to extrude cans. Cans made with Diacid 1550 were also smoother and rounder, and Diacid 1550 foamed less than isostearic acid. Finally, Diacid 1550 also acted as a cleaner, leaving less residue on the cans and dies after application.
