Dear interns, How are you handling the snow? Any slips or snowmen? We
would like to share with you a memory of our lovely Ski Day
(aka Journée de Ski), which took place last Saturday. This
tiny snowman was crafted by our skilled co-president
Valérie. Many thanks to our social officer Simone for
organising the trip. We went to Grand Massif, Le Carroz —
and most probably will go back there in February. Check this space for
news about it.
This week we have a warmer event coming up: on Thursday, we have Wine
& Cheese Inside The ILO — for those of you who miss the weekly buzzing
Genevoise event that made warmer seasons happier.
This week's page 3 brings you all the deets about the Fair Internship
Initiative (in the past, Pay Your Interns Initiative), which the IB thoroughly
supports.
Do you have any suggestions or comments on this publication? Don’t
hesitate to write us: [email protected].

Fair Internship Initiative: Leaving no one behind Co-president Gabriel Matías gives us an update on what the FII is up to these days
We are proud to say that last night, the ILO intern and member of the IB Bahar Uçar, chaired the
weekly meeting of the Fair Internship Initiative GVA (previously called "Pay Your Interns").
Representatives from different UN organizations such as ILO, WHO, UNHCR and IOM, came to
the meeting and discussed the different topics on the agenda. One of the salient topics was the
publishing of a paper by the WHO and the FII regarding interns rights. Unlike in our case, our
fellow UN interns at the WHO do not receive a stipend or financial support of any kind. Other
important topic discussed was the possible multi-agency collaboration on the internship
agreement (or the lack thereof) in the UNHCR.
The ILO IB renews its commitment to this common cause in full awareness of the issue being of
a labour rights nature. Last night's meeting of UN interns reminded us of the importance of
social dialogue and the empowerment that comes from being united on topics of mutual
concern. Furthermore it stressed the fact that workers must be paid and work be decent
regardless of the name employers decide to use to refer to the position. It is our hope that this
important issue will be appropriately addressed in the upcoming Fifth Committee of the United
Nations General Assembly and that concrete action towards improving the situation of the
interns in the UN system will be taken.
