Yes we were back at the Chicago Auto Show this year after missing out last year. Even though the show was expanded, there were still only two car clubs allowed to exhibit this year and at least we were one. The 50 th anniversary of the Camaro may have helped. Hard to believe there were no Mustangs or Corvettes to compete with this year. Only the Chicagoland Off-Roaders Club with all Jeeps was next to us. No real competition in my mind. As always, the information was late in coming and in some cases not totally accurate. However, in spite of it all, we loaded up our cars and headed to McCormick Place on February 8 th . The weather was cold with only light flurries but no major storms, as I had predicted. Four of the cars arrived just after 11:00 a.m. and while a couple got lost finding their way into the building we were all in and ready to move the cars in place by 1:00 p.m. We found the space a little tight for six cars but we had a plan and it work fairly well except the cars were a little closer to the fence then we would have liked. By 4:00 p.m. the plastic covering the carpet was removed, the fence was up, the cars were detailed. The show went well except for the “grease rain” from the near by Café. We distributed around 300 applications to interested visitors, most who were Camaro owners looking for a place to drive their cars. It was very interesting to watch the older visitors all migrating to the first, second and third gen’s while the younger visitors headed directly to the newer generations. I think Jeff Jurczyk’s black ‘67 attracted the most attention and received rave reviews. Jeff also came in second place in the fan voting being beat out by very few votes by the young and tech savvy Jeeps. Thanks to all that voted. Hopefully next time we will come out on top. Move-out was actually the easiest part of the entire show. We were all the way in back next to the exit; when the show closed we fired our engines and were out of the building in 15 to 20 minutes. Thanks to those that volunteered their cars for a great display of what Camaro is all about. Also, a huge thanks to all those members that staffed the booth during the show. As far as I know things went along smoothly. It was a very positive event for the club so let’s hope we can get back next year. Let’s not forget the great turnout we had for the Pizza Party on Saturday, February 4 th at Moretti’s Pizza in Bartlett. Nice to see so many could get together for a wonderful variety of pizza, salads and drinks. While the lines to the food tables were long to start out, everyone had plenty to eat and a pleasant time socializing. Thanks to Rob Davis for making the arrangements and choosing all the pizzas we enjoyed. If you didn’t make it to the Auto Show be sure to check out the many pictures on Facebook. Sincerely, Terry L. Who can believe the weather we’ve been having? It was great that the Chicago Auto Show ended when the temperatures were still in the 60's at 8:00 p.m. and we could drive our cars home before the rain hit. I am sure a lot of members got the urge to unwrap their Camaros over the weekend and get an early jump on the season. Too bad this will certainly not last until spring but let’s hope for the best. Don’t forget the Camaro Café Brunch Tour each month for the next couple of months. We will be trying out some new venues, so check out the schedule and details are on the “Events Page" (page 4). This is a good time to catch up with fellow club members while enjoying a wonderful Sunday morning brunch. Remember to RSVP with the number of people attending so we can make the appropriate reservations. ICC Members!! Our next club meeting is just around the corner on Saturday, March 4th at K1 Speed in Addison, IL. It is important that you attend this meeting to have your voice heard. We will be discussing the upcoming events planned for this season and are looking for your input. There will be a special guest speaker to provide us with more driving options that the club can consider. For all of you who can remember the fun you had as a child driving Slot Cars, Bruce Bishop is working on an event for April 2nd where we can have fun racing without getting in a lot of trouble or damaging our beloved cars. Check out the “Events Page” for more details. May will begin our summer event’s schedule with our annual cruise to Quaker Stake and Lube on May 7th and Uncle Harry’s Ice Cream Cruise Night on May 21st. Mark these on your calendar and let’s get the season of to a great start!!! I want to thank club member, Mr. Francis “Fran” Lasota for stepping up and volunteering to take over as the clubs Apparel Director. He will be the liaison between the members and our new apparel vender Artistic Embroidery Creations (815-385-8854). He will not be taking orders, you will order directly from the vendor. Fran can be contacted if you have a question or problems with orders that are not resolved with the vender. Please keep in mind we are still looking for a couple additional Event Directors in the western or northern suburbs. Also, we are in need of a Newsletter Editor. If you have any question about either position you can contact Rob Davis at [email protected]. On a personal note, Liz and I have been very busy preparing our house for sale. While I hate to leave the home we built and love, it is time to down size and reduce the expenses (TAXES) in preparation of retirement. Anyone looking for a nice house with a large garage (six cars without lifts), I have the place for you. Our goal is to retire in Tennessee in the next couple of years. They have a longer driving season, not to mention “LESS TAXES.” Between the house, Auto Show and work I have had little time to keep up with club business. Hopefully things will be slowing down now and I can make all the upcoming club events. Thanks for everyone’s participation and hope to see you all at upcoming club events. Terry L. Frisch President Illinois Camaro Club
