Kelsi Gowman Senior Seminar 1. I think IKEA handled the situation well. I wasn't in support of them appearing on the documentary but I was wrong. Appearing on it gave them the chance to be honest with consumers and tell them the real story. They were able to explain themselves and say what they were doing to fix the situation they were in. I also thought they did well in their efforts to address child labor. As a customer, I would be pleased with the efforts being made because it shows they are trying their best to ensure no child labor is used. 2. IKEA should make sure in the contract that all of their suppliers must abide by IWAY. If they don't adapt IWAY policies, then IKEA should cut ties with them. 3. One lesson we can take away from this experience would be to adapt policies concerning various socioeconomic or other issues that may arise. Therefore, they are agreed upon in a contract and it is known that the company takes the matter seriously. Another lesson would be to not be slothful after hearing that there is an issue. Upon hearing accusations, a company could let it go or they could act as IKEA did and make sure something is done. IKEA was proactive after finding out what was going on and they were able to make a positive impact. 4. I would say IKEA is virtuous as they act out particular virtues. One virtue they are particularly exhibit is justice. Justice is about being fair. IKEA realized the unfair working conditions and decided to do something about it. IKEA is/was in a position where they could make a difference by making changes and implementing new procedures.

Senior Seminar
