IIFT maintained the standards of their entrance test in terms of level of difficulty levels.
The test was conducted on 28th November 2010 from 10 am to 12 pm. It was for 100 marks
from 135 questions.
The test had 4 sections viz. Language Ability, Quantitative Skills , Data Interpretation & Logical
Reasoning and General Awareness.
The Language Ability section had 2 sub-parts, Reading Comprehension and Verbal Ability.
The marks awarded for different sections varied and a wrong answer was subject to deductionof 1/3rd of the marks the question carried.
Language Ability section:
In the language ability section, part 1 was reading comprehension which had 15 questions,
each carrying 0.7 marks.
It had 4 comprehensions. The comprehensions were time consuming with a number of
confusing questions.

Part 2 was Verbal Ability which was a mixed bag. The para-jumbles were a cakewalk. On the
other hand the synonyms, antonyms and spelling-correction were challenging.
Sentence correction questions seemed ambiguous and were on the difficult side.Overall the
section was difficult except the para-jumbles.
Quantitative Skills section:
In this sections there were 30 questions with 1 mark for every right answer. The question were
doable but it wasn't a section where one could boost the marks owing to the time constraint.
The questions were lengthy with the difficulty level being moderate to difficult.
Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning section:
This set had 35 questions with 1 mark awarded for a right answer. The 3 LR sets were a little
tricky but should have been attempted since they were on the easier side as compared to the
rest of paper. The DI sets were pretty lengthy adhering to the IIFT protocol. Overall the sectionwas moderate by IIFT standards.
General Awareness section:

This section is the deciding factor for many IIFT aspirants and certainly lived up to its reputation.
The knowledge of the aspirants about many fields were tested in the test with some challenging
questions. The questions on the current affairs should have been cracked. Overall the section
was moderate to difficult.

The IIFT 2011-2013 was again the surprise package with increased number of questions
from 122 to 135 focussing on the General Awareness section and Quantitative Ability.
Time management would have played an important role as, even though not specified
on the question paper, IIFT follows sectional cut-offs.

Geometry and Modern Maths dominated this section. This section can be termed as
difficult in the view of the nature of questions and time available to solve it. The right
strategy would be to solve the questions from the areas one is comfortable with. Correct
answer of one question was not in options and hence, few students would have wasted
time on that. Questions based on venn daiagram, cosine rule, indices, linear equationshould have been your first choice.
Overall ideal attempts should have been 10-12.
Cut-off for this section would be 7-8 marks.

In this section, the logical reasoning should have been straight choice to maximize the
attempt. Single question were must attempt category. In the remaining time, attempting
bar graph set based on retailers should have been preferred. Questions based on table
were calculation intensive.
Ideal attempts in this section should have been 15-17.

No. of questions per passage
4 passages. 5-4-3-3
This section had 40 questions out of which 15 questions were on Reading
comprehension. 25 were on vocabulary and grammar. The set on Jumbled Sentences
was the easiest set and was a must attempt. Most of the questions on Fill in the Blanks,
Sentence correction, Similar Analogies and Spellings were of medium level of difficulty
and should have been attempted. In some analogy questions, understanding the relation
between the word pair was a difficult job.
In comprehension, there were four passages each just over a page in length. Two
passages could have been easily attempted. One of the passages was tough and also
had ambiguous questions. The direct questions based on each passage should havebeen identified for maximizing the attempt.
Ideal attempts in this section should have been 18-20.
Cut-off for this section would be 11-12 marks.

Section 4 General Awareness
The section had 30 questions of 0.4 marks each. Questions were along the expected
lines and quite difficult. There were many questions this year, which tested a
candidates awareness of current incidents. Only someone who had read the topics in
question i.e. trade, finance and business, that is one who is updated, would have got a
decent score.
Ideal attempts in this section should have been 15-18.
Cut-off for this section would be 5-6 marks.
