Summary'

In 1977, 9.753 harring \/oro tagged from Harch 22nd to June, 17th. Total

,reported recoveries were 882 (9.0 %), including 37 (0.4 %) after one

year. From April 11th to 19th. 1978; 3.090 fish weretagged. of which 592

have since boan cauGht (recovery rate: 19~2 %). includinG 4 after 1 ~ear. A

large proportion of the recoveries were reported from near tho taeeing slt~

during the two days after tagging(1977:' 45.7 %; 1978: 65.0 %). Thc. two

prineipal miGration routes through the Baltic were eonformed: a westward

route extonding to the Kattegat/Skagerrak and an castern one extending

to noout 16oE. Thc 1077'ro6ults show for the first time that the smaller

berritle spawning in Hay/June also migrate to tbe grazing area's in the

KatttegatjSkagerrak. None of the .fish tagGod in 1978 were r~~overed out
