Twenty– Fifth Sunday In Ordinary Time– September 20 de Septiembre 2015– Vigesimo Quinto Domingo De Tiempo Ordinario

THE MOST IMPORTANT Between us and those around us we some-times produce clashes, discussions and intrigues. The cause? We want to be more than the other: “I am more important than you.” “You have no reason because I am right.” “These are my rights and these are your duties.” Today”s Gospel shows us the apostles quarreling, hotly debating: Which one of us is the most important? Who does not want to be important? The tendency to be

first is part of human nature, we are scared to go unno-ticed. Today this tendency to “excel” has accentuated as a delusion doing strange and absurd things to get noticed possibly even wrong and criminal things. How many things are done out of envy, arrivism and the competi-tiveness that characterizes our society. How many things do we do so as not to be less than the neighbor, colleague or friend… Think of this trend in light of what Jesus says in today’s Gospel:“If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all.” Did Jesus condemn the desire to excel, to do great things in life and on the contrary did he grant privilege to mediocrity, carelessness and negligence? “Whoever wants to be first” is possible, it is not prohibit-ed, it is not a sin. Jesus not only does not prohibit the desire to want to be first, but he encourages it. He reveals a new and distinct path to do it: not at the expense of others, but in favor of others. He adds to this, in ef-fect, “He shall be the last of all and the servant of all.” The way to climb up has now become by going down. The last of the series can be the first, depending on where you start. No one, however brilliant in talent and culture, even oc-cupying renowned positions, stops being a simple per-son. Don’t demand that you be given homage, talk with solemnity, know how to enjoy ordinary things, mix with the rich and the poor, with the cultured and the unin-formed. Never discuss your own importance. Make those around you happy. That is the task God has given us. Encouragement! Blessings! Rev. Wilson Cuevas, Pastor

Animo! Bendiciones! Rev. Wilson Cuevas, Pastor
