what istheEDLprojectModern Everyday life is a structured grid in respect to time, place and means, where people live by abiding to this grid - to a certain point. Everyday life contains the ideas of ordinary and extraordinary, the relative structuring of time and place, commodities and other objects; basically everything. Thus people living in everyday life, seems to have no difference from one another, wrapped up in a lack of style, abiding by the structure of everyday itself. Yet people are tactical characters, they don't react according to strategic calculations and movements, they don't have a proper place to observe their surroundings and act accordingly. Instead, they grasp the opportunity they see on the spot. Depending on time rather than place, they are affected by their state of mind and their limited surroundings, and what they experience refers to certain structured practices while on the other hand can mean something entirely different for their selves. So in modern everyday life, where the grid of structure is getting more an more intense, individuals still live like untraceable trajectories, unable to be reduced to that structured grid. This concludes in the mar-ginality of majority, where people all look and act the same, yet they are all differ-ent due to their individual state of mind. theEDLproject is an interactive exhibition project, developed to convey the notion of modern everyday life - which includes the repetitiveness, the ordinariness, the structuring of time and place, the lack of style in people’s practices and their mar-ginality of majority in those practices as well - through its objects. To convey these ideas about modern everyday life - which is massive due to its power to turn every-thing into ordinary - this project assumes:

2 sides - marginality and majority,

8 thematical themes - sleeping, eating, cleaning, travelling, communicating, work-ing, recreating and buying,

17 objects - mobile phone, chair, pillow, trash can, glass, pen, armchair, table, mirror, television, bag, door, computer, identity card, plastic bag, ticket and key.The thematical themes were generated to cover all everyday practices under gen-eral headlines: sleeping suggests sleeping and waking up, eating suggests drinking as well, cleaning includes tidying up, self-care and even getting dressed, travelling includes not only vehicles but getting from one place to another, communicat-ing suggests the act of conveying information from one person to another, working suggest the practices one gets paid for, recreating includes relaxing as well as having fun, and buying suggests the things one pays for.

what istheEDLprojectMAJORITY SIDEMajority side of the exhibiton is designed to show the ‘lack of style’ notion of everyday life. It delivers the sameness of the everyday objects people own in modern everyday life, along with the structured time and place relations. What the guest will see from outer side is the silhouettes of massive amounts of 17 ob-jects, looking all the same, and a representation of 24 hours on the floor, along with the structured nature of 8 analytical themes.

MARGINALITY SIDEMarginality side of the exhibition is designed to convey the idea of many possible ways to interact with these 17 objects. Hanged flipbooks with different colors suggests different thematical environments and practices, while the flipbooks themselves have 2-3 second stories that includes both the object and the theme. Colored dots are placed under the flipbooks, showing the likely frequency of being exposed to those activities, by its shape, and, at the same time, strengthening the idea of many possible ways themes can come together.

what istheEDLprojectOBJECTS & FLIPBOOKSFlipbooks are one of the interaction mediums for this project. They are hanged in a certain way to have shadows as if they are real objects. They all have different colors according to the themes of their stories and they give out sounds according to the practices inside. They are placed orderly according to themes timeline on the outer side, yet seem like random. On the front covers they have stickers for the guest to take and put on his/her own everyday badge.

what istheEDLprojectTIMELINE OF THE THEMES8 analytical themes are in a complex relation within everyday. There are no defined patterns, yet instead the time gaps in which the themes can take place is defined. Whenever you start your everyday, the next 24 hours are structured as seen on the timeline.

SLOGANSSlogans have two functions in this project. First one is to get the guest used to analytical themes on the timeline, before he/she sees it. Second one is to draw a path for the guest to follow and lead him/her around the majority side and the time-line on the floor.

DOTSDots are placed under the hanged flipbooks, according to the likely frequency of exposure to the story inside and colored the same way according to theme of the flipbook story. Dots convey the notion of frequency while indicating the many possi-bilities of how the themes can come together within everyday.

Thus, everybody experiences these themes within this structure, rather similar yet dif-ferent. This is one of the explanations of marginality of majority.
