    Information and Communications Technology

    ICT Teacher: Mrs Watt

Semester 1 Grade 5ICT for creating

At Grade 5, students develop skills in using ICT for problem solving, expressing ideas, andpresenting information to different audiences. Working in all areas of the curriculum, studentsexplore a range of ICT tools (for example, basic editing tools such as word processing) and simpletechniques for visualising thinking.

Individually, students learn to process data in the form of text, images and sound to create planned

information products, such as invitations, short stories, presentation files (for example, a MicrosoftPowerPoint file) The programs the students have been working with this semester include:PowerPoint, Publisher and Google Sketch Up.

Students begin to use manual (for example, proofreading) and electronic (for example, spellchecker) techniques to identify typographical errors and make appropriate corrections. Theyuse criteria, such as the accuracy and attractiveness of their information products, to make

judgments about how well they meet their purposes.

Students begin to manage their files using simple ways of organising them for easy retrieval; forexample, creating folders based on topics or forms such as stories, images, and projects. They areintroduced to the simple security strategy of using passwords to protect access to their files whenworking on a network.

This semester, the students have created an ICT Digital Portfolio where they save and storepublished pieces of work, multimedia such as photos and videos and reflections about theirlearning in ICT. The students are using PowerPoint to create their digital bank of evidence. Thestudents are able to save their Digital Portfolio to their own USB and share their ICT learning withfamilies at any time.

    ICT for communicating

Students continue to develop their skills in using ICT to communicate knowledge by exchanging

email messages with others. When seeking new information on topics of importance or interest inall areas of the curriculum, students apply a set of procedures (such as simple key words) forlocating information on the intranet and the Internet. Using recommended search engines, studentsrefine their search strategies to locate information quickly.

At Grade 5, students use email (using the Catholic Education Victoria Network - MyMail suite), andwebsites. When emailing, they successfully attach files and they apply protocols for sending and

    receiving electronic information.

    CYBERSAFETY

The students are regularly involved in lessons around Internet Safety. During Term 1 they wererequired to create avatars to represent themselves instead of a real photo on web2 tools andproduce a document using Publisher to display important rules when using the internet.

    avatars

A computer avatar is a personalized graphic file thatrepresents a computer user.

To day in I.C.T we used the programhttp://www.manga.com/content/avatar-face-maker to createavatars that I can use to represent me instead of using myphoto online.

    Microsoft publisher

During term 2 we continued to develop and extend our skills in

the program Microsoft publisher. We were required to designand produce a product informing an audience all aboutourselves.Below is the product I produced using a brochure template.

SketchUp is a 3D modeling program designed for architectural, civil, andmechanical engineers as well as filmmakers, game developers, and relatedprofessions. A feature of Sketch Up is the 3D Warehouse that letsSketchUp users search for models made by others and contribute models.

During Term 3 I learnt how to use Sketch Up software to create 3D modelsof my choice. Once my design was complete I was able to use items fromthe warehouse to compliment my design.

As a creative digital designer I enjoyed this task

    I found the program challenging
