TASK 1 Using a Word processor To help you complete this task, you have: • a list of detailed instructions to follow (below) • a copy of a letter to use (see next page) Please follow the instructions carefully. If you have any difficulty in understanding what is required or if you have a problem of any kind, don’t hesitate to ask your tutor or assessor for some guidance. Step Instructions 1 Load the wordprocessor

2 Type the text of the letter (see next page) into the

wordprocessor

3 Save your letter with a suitable filename into a folder called Wordprocessing

4 Use the spelling and grammar checker to correct any typing errors, spelling mistakes and grammar mistakes

5 Format your letter to Comic Sans, italic, size 12 Format the letter in the following way, so it would fit onto headed paper: Top margin = 4 cm Bottom margin = 2 cm Left margin = 3 cm

Right margin = 2 cm 7 Make the subject heading of the letter (Traveller

Satisfaction Survey) bold

8 Centre the line which you have just made bold

9 Right align the name, address and date

10 Save your letter again with same filename

11 Using the find and replace edit tool replace Ross with Brown

12 Justify the main text of your letter

13 Using the internet, search for and save a suitable picture to include at the top of your letter. Save the picture with a suitable filename under your pictures folder. Change the size of one dimension of the image to 4cm (maintaining aspect ratio) and insert into your letter.

14 Save your letter with a different filename

15 For both letters insert a header showing your name and a footer showing the filename and path and today’s date.

16 Save and print both of your letters

17 Close the files

Use this copy letter to help you with Task 1 Mr Gordon Ross Customer Services Manger Quest Travel Limited 35 Pilkington Square Warmington SK1 3JW Today’s date Dear Mr Ross Traveler Satisfaction Survey Please find enclosed the results of a recent survey carried out with a specially-selected group of travellers. The table shows the responses to six of the locations we propose two include in our brochure with effect from next summer. Our aim has been to provide excellent value for money and the survey concentrated particularly on this aspect. We have chosen destinations which, we believe, will cater for a wide variety of tastes and the hotels all offer an excellent range of facilities both on site and nearby. Your travel agency has always recommended us highly and I believe that hour extended range of holiday packages will give further scope for expanding your business. TASK 2 Using a Spreadsheet To help you complete this task, you have: • a list of detailed instructions to follow (Table 1 below) • a table of data (Table 2 on next page) Please follow the instructions carefully. If you have any difficulty in understanding what is required or if you have a problem of any kind, don’t hesitate to ask your tutor or assessor for some guidance. Table 1 Step Instructions 1 Load the spreadsheet programme 2 Enter the data from Table 2 into a new spreadsheet. You will

need to change the width of the columns. (Helpful hint – to make the text in the column headings ‘wrap’ around so that your table is easy to read and will fit the page, place the cursor in the required cell/s, select Format select Cells click on the Alignment Tab click on the Text Wrap Box.)

3 Enter a formula into the last column of the spreadsheet to calculate the percentage of tourists who have considered that the cost of their holiday represented good value for money. (Helpful hint – to calculate the percentage, you need to divide the number of those who felt they had received good value for money by the total number of people who travelled to each destination and multiply by 100.)

4 Replicate (copy) the formula down the column

5 Format the figures in the percentage column to whole numbers (0 decimal places)

6 Give the column headings a fill colour

7 Format the cells so that they have a border around them

8 Underneath the Total number of travellers to destination data use a

Sum formula to calculate the total number of travellers to all destination

11 Save the spreadsheet with a suitable filename

12 Print the spreadsheet

TASK 3 Creating a Chart

To help you complete this task, you have: • a list of detailed instructions to follow (below) • a bar chart for you to use as a model (see next page) Please follow the instructions carefully. If you have any difficulty in understanding what is required or if you have a problem of any kind, don’t hesitate to ask your tutor or assessor for some guidance. Step Instructions 1 Using the spreadsheet you created in Task 2, draw a bar chart

to show the number of travellers to each destination and the number of those who considered their holiday had been good value for money. Your chart should look very similar to the example on the next page.

the worksheet

4 Format the bars of your chart so each bar is a different colour

5 Save the bar chart (depending on the programme you are using, it might be saved automatically with the spreadsheet, or you may need to save it separately with a suitable filename)

6 Add a footer to your chart showing your name, the date and the filename and path. (Check your footer in preview)

7 Print out the chart

TASK 4 Importing a Spreadsheet into a Letter To enable you to complete this task, you will need the: • letter file you saved during Task 1, • spreadsheet file you saved during Task 2 • bar chart you created as part of Task 3. Please follow the instructions carefully. If you have any difficulty in understanding what is required or if you have a problem of any kind, don’t hesitate to ask your tutor or assessor for some guidance. Step Instructions 1 In the wordprocessor, open the letter file you saved in Task 1

2 Copy the spreadsheet table you saved in Task 2 and paste it

into the letter after the second paragraph

3 Insert the bar chart you saved in Task 3 into the letter after the third paragraph. (Helpful hint – you may have to adjust the size of the bar chart to fit into the letter. You could do this either in the spreadsheet programme, or in the wordprocessor, depending on how you import or copy the chart.)

4 In the first paragraph of the letter, change the words “Please find enclosed” to “I am pleased to inform you of”

5 Try to fit the letter on to a single page. (Helpful hint – you might need to make the chart smaller, change the font size of the text or change the margins.)

6 Save the file with a new filename so that you have both versions of the letter document

7 Print the document

8 Close the file

9 Screen print your folders and files to show that you have saved your work as asked, and print out.

10 Finally save all of your files to the tutor’s memory stick in a folder named as you, or email your files to your tutor.

TASK 5 Using Email
