Hi there, thank you for reading this magazine. This magazine is all about the information about a contractor. The aim of this magazine is to enable the reader to know about a contractor like what is his role, how to become a contractor and so on. By the way, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you Mr Beh Lai Seng, a Project Manager from IJM Corporation Berhad due to accept my interview and provide me the information of a contractor. Mr. Beh Lai Seng is now a senior project manager at IJM Corporation Berhad. He works for over 20 years in the construction field. He had been carried out over 10 construction projects and around 130 workers are working under him now.

At first he worked as an engineer but after that he changed to become a developer, contractor and also a project manager.

The projects that he took part is The Thistle Hotel, The Grand Hyatt and so on.

To him, a construction project is a team work and the contractor is the people to ensure the project go on smoothly.

A contractor plays an importance role in the construction field. Therefore, to understand deeply of a contractor, there are 10 things that you need to know.

They are many type of contractor. The two main contractor are general contractor and subcontractor.

Anyone can become a contractor, but depend on what type of contractor and what grade that you want to be. Basically,to become a contractor, you must have your own resources, certain amount of money to back you up for the business, workers that are willing to work with you and tools.

Some requirements are needed to become a good contractor.

Contractor facing challenges during his career. Being a contractor is very challenging. You might be facing different challenges by doing different type of construction project. If you are an adventurer, this job is suitable for you.

There are many benefits obtained by being a contractor. Contractor may learn some knowledge about the job or skill of other construction key man like architect, quantity surveyor, civil engineer and so on. Besides, social skills will be improved by being a contractor.

Contractor need to keep updating himself. The build environment is keep changing, the technology is improving from day to day. Contractor need to adapt the changes of the environment and technology. He also might need to take some course like business to help himself in his career.
