Aim: How do we write in the superlative form?

Do Now: complete the following sentences.

When are are comparing more than two things.

• We add “est” to the end of the adjective– Adjective + est

Example: 1. New York City is the largest city in the United

States.2. Arnold is the loudest student in class. 3. Ms. Nie is the prettiest teacher in school. (if the

adjective ends in “y” we change the “y” to an “I” and add “est”

More than two syllables

• When the adjective has more than two syllables, we add “the most” in front of the adjective.– The most + adjective– Example:

• New York is the most expensive city to live in.• Ms. Nie is the most intelligent person in the

world.
