A documentary about the late Icelandic painter Georg Gudni Hauksson, whose innovative interpretations of forms and ideas paved the way for a renaissance in Icelandic landscape painting.

It is safe to say that the historical role of Georg Guðni (1961-2011) as a visual artist has been to restore the landscape painting to its former glory, which was a worthy challenge. The landscape painting had its golden age in the Icelandic tart scene in the early 20th century and it held an important role in shaping the cultural identity of a nation in the making. The works of Georg Guðni was not intended to restore the old landscape painting – where the subjects were chosen to enhance a national identity. George Guðni’s paintings involve innovation - not only in wrestling with landscape painting in the new social context – but also in his groundbreaking interpretation of the form and concept. As many other of his contemporaries have done.

It was always the main objective of Georg Guðni’s work to analyze and interpret - again and again - the Icelandic landscape, the contrast of the light and weather transformations.
