General information
The IBMS Course Outlines, together with the IBMS Prospectus, Handbooks and the Student Charter form
the Teaching and Exam Regulations, in Dutch: ‘de onderwijs- en examenregeling, de OER’. All of these
documents are digitally available via the Hanze website (access www.hanze.nl > Education >
International Business School), used by the Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Groningen.
The IBMS Course Outlines (in German: Vorlesungsverzeichnis Internationale Betriebswirtschaft) serve
several purposes:
to enable students to prepare for classes and to acquire the correct texts;
to enable students to plan their work;
to assist teaching staff to meet the educational aims;
to give partner schools and persons outside the Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen an overview of the contents and structure of the modules offered within the IBMS/BW study programme;
to enable the Planning Office to schedule classes;
to enable the Examination Office to create correct assessment schemes.
To meet these purposes each module description defines: the module name and examination code
used by the Exam Office and the Planning Office, the set-up of classes, the size of the module, the aims
of the module, what textbooks students must acquire, and how the module will be assessed.
At the date of printing, the information contained in this book was accurate, and as far as possible
complete. If any changes or revisions to modules have taken place since then, students will be notified
by their teacher at the beginning of the module in question.
These changes will only be valid after publication on the Hanze website (access www.hanze.nl >
Education > International Business School) under the heading: ' Formal Changes to Course Outline and
Prospectus’.
The academic year is divided into 4 study periods:
Period 1: September – November
Period 2: November – January
Period 3: February – April
Period 4: April – July
The periods mentioned in this Course Outline are those in which the module is offered during the
academic year 2016-2017.
Finally we refer to the IBMS Prospectus/BW Studienführer for all other information necessary to
complete your studies at the International Business School and other official IBS channels of
communication:
- Hanze.nl - Blackboard
Note: students are strongly advised to check the Hanze website (access www.hanze.nl) and Blackboard
for the various module sites in order to obtain the latest information.

Course contents The Hanze Honours College coordinates the interdisciplinary line of the Honours
programmes of all schools within Hanze University of Applied Sciences.
Interdisciplinary workshops will address societal or innovation topics related to the
main focus of the schools or Centers of Knowledge. IBS students are required to
participate in a minimum of one Hanze run interdisciplinary course during their
time in the Honours Programme. Workshops will focus on a variety of themes and
include guest lectures, participatory assignments and debate. Each school will offer
one workshop per year.
June 2016 IBMS/ Honours China Europe Business Programme/ Year 2, 3 and 4/ 2016-2017 24
Students also have the option to follow a course online with an approved site such
as www.coersera.org as long as they have identified and justified to their coach
why this course may help them develop personally or professionally.
Students may also find an alternative course that is run externally. The quality and
appropriateness of this course should be discussed with the coach.
During time abroad (normally the SAB semester), students should enroll in one
class totally outside their field of professional interest. This can be on any topic of
their choosing. The students are encouraged to think outside the box – maybe a
new sport, an art course, literature? It can be anything but NOT a business related
course. If a course at the school is not possible, the student should find another
course given locally. Many community clubs and the local libraries advertise
courses, which are very low cost. A minimum of 28 hours participation is expected.
On return to Groningen the student should present a short video or a 5 slide ppt of
their experiences. Where possible the student should address how they can relate
the concepts learned in this course to their future professional goals.

Level Main Phase
Course contents The China Europe Business Talent Programme asserts that Honours students
should play an active role as leaders not only in business but by providing service
as a leader in the community. For this aspect, the group of IBS Honours students,
as a whole, will need to develop a community project in which they identify, plan
and execute their own community initiatives and reflect upon those experiences.
The students should strive for a lasting effect and positive publicity for their
initiatives.
June 2016 IBMS/ Honours China Europe Business Programme/ Year 2, 3 and 4/ 2016-2017 26
An example of a project could be following and evaluating MOOC’s and other
programmes of universities around the world with a focus on China and its
(business-) relations around the world.
Other options could be developing and fulfilling the role of ambassador for Hanze
UAS, becoming a ‘Buddy’ and act as a coach/student mentor for the new CEBT
students, assisting in setting up relations with organisations in China, or become
an investigator for a company on market-possibilities in a China-Europe Business-
Relation, or developing into a role as journalist and develop short videos on
existing relationships that can be used for educational purposes; for instance
about the harbour-facilities of Tianjin, or about the way a Chamber of Commerce
works, or …., etc. In short; the activities to be deployed should become beneficial
to the whole Hanze-community.
The students should decide upon their goals for the project and communicate
these to their coach for approval. The students should clearly identify their
expectations and routes of communication at an early stage in the project. It is
the students’ responsibility to adhere to the agreements made within the group
and to produce a high quality of work for the project.

Details/peculiarities Assignment Examples:
IBS Course Assignment
Concurrent to enrollment in a regular IBS course, a student can design an
extra advanced business content assignment. Any IBS module can be chosen,
and the regular course instructor would complete assessment of this
assignment. Modalities to shape the advanced content are:
Make a practical application of the module contents for a company, explore
the innovations and trends in the relevant field or explore one aspect that is
dealt with in the module in depth.
Research project participation
Become involved with a research project within IBS, for example, working
with the Lectorate or other staff members conducting research. Alternatively,
research in another area can be conducted, for example, working directly
with an organization to establish research questions posed by them.
Courses in IBS or at another Hanze School
With proper advance planning and approval, IBS Honours students may have
the opportunity to audit a course within IBS or at one of the other Hanze
schools. For example, additional foreign language training, following lectures
in a subject related to the students’ professional goals, for example in the
field of technology, law, communications, stock market etc. If the student
can justify the benefit of taking a course at another institution, outside of
Hanze, it may be possible as long as permission is given by the mentor.
While abroad
During Study abroad or Placement it is also possible to earn credits for the
advanced contents by:
Involvement in activities of trading clubs, chamber of commerce....
participation in student enterprises or business associations in the partner
school
enrollment in an extra course on top of the 30 credits for SAB (*not
possible at every school)
participate in research done at the partner school
