The case for more bandwidth

Page 6: iBahn and the Bandwidth Challenge For Hoteliers 2010 02 10

The migration of hotel-supplied content to guest-supplied content

70% of iTRAVELLERs have downloaded music onto their computers at home

More than 50% expect to be able either download or watch movies directly from the Internet…and,

Nearly 60% of iTRAVELLERs say they have already downloaded video or other digital content (news, sports, etc.) to their computers for immediate or future viewing

So what’s the challenge?

Most hotel Internet systems are not networks and not designed for more than guests checking email

Fewer than four guests concurrently downloading video can overwhelm an average hotel system

HD content will exacerbate the current situation

Hotel TV systems are not integrated with the Internet

Recent research indicates that 80+% of travellers will not return to hotels that provide poor technology experiences

• affects hotel occupancy levels• pushes guests to alternative devices

Page 9: iBahn and the Bandwidth Challenge For Hoteliers 2010 02 10

What can be done?

Guests want to be able to mirror their home technology experiences in the hotel room

Structured wired and wireless solutions would be considered more favourable looking forward

Throwing more bandwidth at the problem is only a short term measure

Intelligent bandwidth solutions is a longer term strategy

Vendors need to consider a more holistic bandwidth management solution that covers all devices
