PROGRAM BENEFITS

What We Do IA-Scholars

The International Affairs Scholars Program provides rich opportunities for students from all majors who want to gain in-depth understanding of world/global themes, foreign countries, and international issues.

IA-Scholars participate in special programs and seminars with world affairs experts, professionals in the international arena, attend cultural events with international themes, and study abroad. Foreign language training is strongly encouraged. This program is especially well suited for students planning careers with an international focus. Students in the International Affairs Scholars Program live in Mack Hall during their first year.

The International Affairs Scholars Program is supported by both the University Honors & Scholars Center and the Office of International Affairs.

All International Affairs Scholars have the opportunity to participate in a short term study abroad program during spring break. During winter quarter students enroll in a course set up exclusively for International Affairs Scholars that focuses on a particular country/region. The course then culminates with a trip to that region during spring break. College credit is earned for both the course and the trip. Past destinations include Poland, Bolivia, China, Brazil, Senegal, Bulgaria and Turkey.

Study Abroad

International Affairs Scholars attend many cultural events and activities around campus and Columbus. These events include international festivals, internationally-themed art exhibits and performances, as well as lectures by international scholars. The students also plan and implement international events that are designed to raise awareness regarding particular countries, as well as global issues. A fall trip is planned each year to nearby cities and the international affairs theme is applied to the corresponding activities. Past destinations include: New York City, Toronto, Washington DC, and Chicago.
